Planet Chysaor
I said there will be a new post soon. I have finished this post. In a couple of days I'll do the first gameplay turn.
A brief history of the planet Chysaor, as well as the entire Keto system:
The Keto system became one of the centers of colonization during the Great Crusade. By itself, this system was not very important, but one of the easiest routes to the capital of the Gorgon sub-sector passed through it. The colonization was undertaken to create first an observation point, and then a defensive bastion altogether. However, despite possible concerns, these defensive systems were not used until the Great Heresy War.
During this devastating conflict, the planet came under attack by a group of heretics. Fortunately for the planet, the battle never reached the planet itself, as the orbital defense systems were able to successfully repel any attack attempts. The fact that the planet was colonized by the Solar Auxilia, and that many of the older veterans were still alive at the time of that battle and participated in repelling the attack, certainly helped this fact.
However, most of the once colossal defense system of the planet was destroyed, and the planet was rained with space debris and debris from destroyed orbital stations and spaceships. The problem is not so noticeable, if not for the fact that in several places these debris brought significant pollution, which made the development of the territories impossible. On this, the participation of the planet in the Great Heresy War actually ended.
The planet gradually recovered until another event ripped it out of its peaceful development in M33, when a group of xenos raiders of unknown origin invaded the system. Fighting with them for several years, until the ship Leagues of Votann appeared, which decided to join the extermination of the xenos. However, the ship itself was badly damaged, so the abhumans decided to stay in the system. Temporarily at first, but the lack of contacts with their allies eventually forced them to settle on one of the systems of this planet, becoming an important part of it.
The system was able to survive the bloody ages of M35 and M36, when the Imperium was shaking due to the actions of a tyrant known as Goge Vandir. In those years, a gradual separation of the local Ecclesiarchy from the traditional version for the Imperium began. Nevertheless, the planet was able to survive this fact relatively without problems.
The real trouble began in M40, when the expansion of Body Eaters' influence made the planet practically a front line. This culminated in a xenos invasion about four centuries ago. Although they never succeeded in capturing any of the inhabited worlds, they carried out a bombardment of the planetary capital, managing to wreak havoc on the planet. It was then that the Steel Colossi arrived in the system, seeking to help the imperial world, but soon found themselves at the center of diplomacy.
The dynasty of planetary governors ended, and as a result, almost every faction on the planet approached the Adeptus Astartes with an offer to take the planet under their control, in exchange for a total of all the necessary supplies of equipment, as well as personnel, that they could offer. Chapter Master Demetrius Ursus accepted this offer, and the Administratum formally agreed to the creation of an Astartes fortress in this system. After all, the defense of this close-to-frontline system now fell to the Adeptus Astartes.
From that moment on, the period of Astartes power over this planetary system began, during which the Astartes gradually strengthened their power over the system, integrating more and more into its life. An example of this would be the Astartes citadel located next to the planetary capital, and the fact that the majordomo actually played the role of prime minister of the planetary administration.
Keto System:
In addition to the planet Chysaor itself, one should also pay attention to several other cosmic bodies in this system, which also deserve interest.
Torgam: The second planet from the star is a hostile world, contrary to first impression. This planet is somewhat smaller than the standard of Terra, covered with huge oceans, and life is flourishing on it, and this is indeed a fact. Unfortunately, any attempts to colonize the planet were interrupted due to aggressive fauna, allowing the world to be classified as Deathworld. However, about once every fifty years some Genetor of the Adeptus Mechanicus cult attempts to conduct expeditions to the planet. Statistically, only slightly more than half survive.
Khalzir: a satellite of the gas giant Irmal, which is the fourth planet in this system. It was in the orbit of this gas giant that a clash occurred between the forces of xenos raiders, as well as the forces of this system with the support of Votann. The Votann ship was heavily damaged and landed on the largest of the satellites. Over time, the crew of this ship began to explore the celestial body. The remains of the spacecraft have now long been dismantled, and only its individual components still serve as part of the planetary infrastructure. Now there is also a trading post of the Leagues of Votann, who made contact with their brothers about two thousand years ago, but never convinced them to leave the world that had become their new home. Since all contacts with Kin go through Squats, the Imperium turns a blind eye to the very fact of communication with them.
Planetary population:
Baseline humanity: constitute the bulk of the population of this planet since the time of the Great Crusade. The population has a high level of gradation in terms of mutation rates, given the presence of areas with significant pollution. However, this population is still within the Segmentum Ultima optimum, relative to deviations from the human standard.
Squats: Although individual parts of the Adeptus in the sector have different views on whether they are xenos, abhumans or mutants, the status of this population is confirmed by the decision of the Administratum from M33. De-jure, they have no independence from the planet, obeying the decisions of the planetary governor and following the laws, but in fact the authorities from Chysaor rarely interfered in their affairs.
Scalies: This population of abhumans supposedly originates from criminals and outcasts who hid in the quarantine zones of the planet at the site of the fall of space stations. Long-term living in polluted areas, as well as the lack of destruction of mutants, has led to the degeneration of this population to a level where even the status of abhumans is controversial. Currently, entire tribes of such mutants wander through sparsely populated regions of the planet, attacking distant settlements. This scum is heavily integrated into the underworld of the planet, providing its services to anyone who is willing to pay them.
Planetary Cult:
Unlike most worlds, the Imperial Cult in the Keto system is highly differentiated, having three major branches at once, all of which are legitimate.
Cult of Bloody Aquila: This version of the Imperial Cult is the main version found on the planet, considered one of the many sanguinary cults of the Imperium. However, instead of ritual killing or suicide, the cult prefers ritual bloodshed and oath taking. The planet has a complex system of how, with how many witnesses, and to whom the oath must be taken.
Two people, in the presence of witnesses, can make an incision in the palm of their hand, and then shake hands, which is analogous to the ritual of twinning, linking these two people with a promise to help each other. Vows between clans and families are usually pronounced during weddings, when the heads of two families make an incision on their finger and let drops of blood fall into a glass of wine. After that, they exchange glasses and drink them, sealing the oath between the families. Finally, the military oath in the planetary army is made by making an incision in the palm of the hand, after which a few drops of blood are allowed to fall on the aquila. It is believed that in this way this person took an oath before the face of the Emperor himself.
What was surprising, however, was the later integration of the Mechanicus into the cult. This is not so surprising, however, given that this Explorator Fleet belonged to the Magos Biologis. However, the influence of the Mechanicus has led to the ongoing structuring of the cult and more careful tracking of sworn oaths.
Cult of Ancestors: This cult is practiced by Squats in this system. The object of worship are the Ancestors of each member of this group. While it may seem counterintuitive, this cult is sanctioned by the Ecclesiarchy and is considered legal within the Imperium. Cult of Ancestors considers it important to give praise to every ancestor, down to the most ancient. At the same time, they believe that all branches of humanity trace their origins to Terra. And considering how ancient the Emperor can be, he is considered the ancestor of every living person in the galaxy, and thus is revered by the cult as one of the greatest among the Ancestors, although not receiving the same share of worship as the cult focuses on more recent ancestors of individual person.
Neo-Bilstromian Torians: This cult traces its origins to Bilstrom, being mostly a minor aberration from the mainstream of the Ecclesiarchy. However, their difference lies in the categorical rejection of bloodshed, especially in religious matters. As a result, this gave rise to a conflict with the population of the planet, which traditionally considers the representatives of this cult to be dishonorable and insidious.
Cult Mechanicus: Like most other worlds in the Imperium, this planet also has an Adeptus Mechanicus presence. The planet historically has representatives from both Brown Titan and the Meroa 014 explorer fleet. And if the first group is a fairly orthodox group of the main ideas of the Adeptus Mechanicus (although they are politically in slight conflict with Mars), then the second group was influenced by the current Mechanicus, known like Generators. Mechanicus data is not focused on mechanical research, but on improving the potential of human biology through genetic engineering or the installation of artificial organs. However, both groups are currently in relative peace.
Planetary Defense:
The planet has several possible layers of defense at once.
Space Defense: Although space defense has only been failing over the past millennia, it still surpasses what can be seen on most worlds of the Imperium. In addition, the presence of a relatively large space infrastructure has made it possible to make the planets the home base for several Imperial Navy ships, which must protect several systems at once. Their location here is due to their proximity to the front lines, and their main task is to delay the forces of a possible invasion until possible reinforcements arrive.
PDF: Although the planet's population itself traces its origins to the Solar Auxilia, however, at the moment, traces of this origin are largely lost. The descendants of the first colonists formed not only the core of the planetary elite, but also the backbone of the officer corps, as well as a significant part of the army itself. However, the latest xenos invasion has dealt a huge blow to these ancient bloodlines, and protection from the Astartes has prevented them from regaining ground and recovering to their full potential. Although the planet's PDF forces are still better than average for the Imperium, they are well below the minimum requirement of the Astra Militarum. The forces of the planetary army themselves number about thirty million.
Gorgon Tercio: A kind of elite of the planetary army are the forces of the standard armed forces of this sector. One hundred thousand soldiers, whose quality far exceeds any other groupings of similar size. These fighters have been present on the planet for a long time and play the role of forces loyal to the planetary governor, which he can easily use to eliminate his rivals on the planet. Unlike PDF forces, these soldiers hail from other planets in the sector and are not affiliated with local political factions. Most of these fighters are located in the planetary capital, protecting the palace of the planetary governor, although individual small groups may be sent to escort government officials and protect specific installations with a small group.
Other Armed Groups: Although these are the three main layers of the planet's defense, individual groups have their own forces. The Adeptus Mechanicus on the plane has its own guard of several hundred skitarii. The Ecclesiarchy enclave is protected by a million militai frateris, although their training is significantly less than standard. Finally, the current planetary governor's personal guard consists of former scouts who served alongside the Astartes. Although there are fewer than ten thousand of them, and they themselves are extremely lightly armed, they are still probably the best fighters on the planet in terms of individual skills.
Planetary rule:
The planetary government has historically been a dictatorship based on state coercion and an extensive bureaucracy. Although the planet has experienced several different dynasties of planetary governors during its existence, many governors who have been appointed by the sector lord, and a period of leadership of the Chapter Master's forces, the mechanism of planetary administration has not changed too much.
A rigid vertical of power governs the entire planet, starting from the lowest levels of the planetary administration and rising to the cabinet of ministers and advisers to the governor.
The state apparatus is supported by a large number of workers' associations and state trade unions. Their official goal is to help mediate between the population of the planet and the leadership, but in fact this is an additional mechanism for controlling the population. Membership in any such association is necessary to obtain a normal job on the planet. Maintaining this status requires both regular payments and the actual absence of not only crimes, but also links with criminals.
The state widely supports denunciation of other inhabitants of the planet, presenting it as a necessary measure to protect society from numerous opponents. Given the planet's proximity to the front of the war against the xenos, the populace is largely supportive of such actions. In the end, stealing products from a factory can be either an attempt by someone to get additional income, or an attempt by a group of xenos to prepare a terrorist act. The state only needs to use this to further strengthen its position.
Of course, there are a large number of other measures based on the integration of the state and workers' associations. It can also be patrol squads that find and arrest everyone who does not live in the area or has no other reason to live here. The planet constantly maintains the atmosphere of a society surrounded by many opponents.
Planetary geography:
The planet has a big difference between the northern and southern hemispheres. Most of the land is located in the southern hemisphere, and the total land occupies only about 15% of the planet. At the same time, both the territory of the largest continent and many small islands are distinguished by significant elevation differences.
The largest continent stretches from the equator and almost all the way to the pole, which is why the southern hemisphere has a polar ice sheet, unlike the northern hemisphere. The equatorial regions are the most developed part of this continent, since it was on the equators that the first spaceports were created, even during the development of the planet. These areas have several large development centers, the largest of which is the capital of the planet.
The capital itself was founded on a once vast plain between the ocean and nearby mountains. However, as the city of Marden developed, a large city first mastered the entire territory on the plain, and then began to evolve into a classic hive, characteristic of hive worlds in Segmentum Solar. However, millennia of development of this hive gradually led to the fact that its top point began to gradually shift towards the nearest mountain peak. The mountain itself began to gradually rebuild into part of a huge city, which is why the parts of the city close to the mountain are more modern and have more prestige than the historical center of the city.
To oversee and protect the planetary capital, the Steel Colossi Chapter created their own citadel, which is located a hundred kilometers from the planet's capital, in the center of a mountain range. However, the distance itself is extremely small, and even before the advent of the Astartes, these territories were already relatively developed.
On the other hand, territories close to the southern hemisphere are relatively poorly developed. The areas close to the coast are rich in many settlements where food is produced and minerals are mined. However, as you move inward the continent, the degree of development drops to almost zero.
The third important region of the planet should be called the islands scattered all over the planet, as well as the small continent Hilzar, located in the northern hemisphere. Long-term isolation of these areas of the territory created a very exotic and diverse living world. And although many of these areas are relatively well mapped, their development is at an embryonic level. The largest center of life in the northern hemisphere is a small archipelago that has been given over to autonomous control by refugees from the planet Bilstrom.
