Phorgys Sector
I give approximate information about the sector, and you can also roughly find out which xenos will be the main threat to you.

*****

Brief history of the Phorgys sector:

As far as we know, the Phorgys sector was originally inhabited before the start of the Age of Strife, although human civilization never survived this troubled era. The surviving remnants of human civilization in the region, for survival or other reasons, used forbidden technologies that led to their separation from the human standard.

The recolonization of the sector began during the Age of Strife by the tech-priests of Mars, who sent their autonomous arks to the far reaches of the galaxy, relying on legends of technological advances. Surviving sources from the DAOT era suggest that the sector was the site of an incredibly large-scale astro-engineering project. Although these descriptions are vague, the inhabitants of Mars decided to send an expedition to explore the region, and their activities were successful.

At the edge of the current sector, they discovered a gas giant surrounded by a metal ring around its equator. Although this gas giant was too small to be considered a brown dwarf and have natural thermonuclear reactions, the observed data indicated otherwise. The Mechanicum considered that it was this ring around the gas giant that was the very agro-engineering experiment, and created a forge world to study it.

For millennia, the tech-priests have mastered the artificial brown dwarf and its moons, defending themselves against the dehumanized inhabitants of the region. Yet, at war with an outnumbered enemy, the Mechanicum had been slowly losing the conflict over the centuries, and their defeat seemed utterly inevitable.

The following information is information preserved in the archives of the successors of Iron Hands, despite the attempts of the Administratum and the Inquisition to distort information about the Tenth Legion. The dissemination of this information is undesirable.

The sector has become the target of an Imperium fleet intent on discovering the fate of the Mechanicum expedition. This fleet was assembled from several expeditionary fleets and was jointly led by Ferrus Manus and Fulgrim. At that time, the betrayal of the despicable heretic had not yet been revealed and remained secret. It is believed that Fulgrim sought to strengthen his influence with victories, however, due to the small number of his Legion, he ingratiate himself with Ferrus Manus, seeking to use his Legion as a bargaining chip that would allow him to achieve victory with minimal losses.

This invasion involved the forces of two Legiones Astartes, the forces of the Solar Auxilia, about twenty Freeblades gathered from all over the Imperium, and finally the Rogue Trader, who provided the expedition with intelligence.

The campaign to pacify the region took about two years, faced with stubborn resistance, but the success of the military operations was undeniable. The large Forge World Mechanicum joined the Imperium with an oath of allegiance to Mars and Terra. The Freeblades, under an agreement approved by the primarchs, established knightly houses that would henceforth defend the Great Bastion. Large possessions were donated to Rogue Trader, the founder of the vor Tarpinis dynasty.

However, the threat has not been completely eradicated. The dispersion of the forces of the expedition to protect the occupied territories did not allow the final destruction of the enemy forces, and this happened only 14 years later, when Ferrus Manus arrived for this purpose along with the Emperor.

During the Great Heresy War, the worlds of the Phorgys sector remained loyal to Terra, providing whatever support they could. The Legio Celestia was stationed in the western Imperium during the Great Heresy War, and therefore was part of the Loyalist forces, first during Titandeath in the Garmon region, and then the remnants of the Legio participated in the defense of Terra. On the other hand, the rest of the sector first supported the Imperium Secundus, and then sent forces to help Roboute Guilliman's fleet, which was striving for Terra in the final stages of the war.

The traitors' attempts to destroy the sector were unsuccessful, as loyalist forces destroyed the traitorous Emperor Children's who attempted to take over the sector.

This allowed the sector to develop a fairly strong identity based on the combination of the Iron Hands heritage and the extremely strong influence of the Mechanicus in the sector. Although rebellions have occurred on the worlds of the sector from time to time, however, the sector has, from time to time, either remained neutral during major conflicts of all-Imperial significance, like Nova Terra Interregnum, or supported the faithful servants of the Emperor, as was the time of Age of Blood.

The main problem of the sector manifested itself in M35, when in the neighboring sector Ingris, information appeared about a strange breed of mutants capable of taking control of human bodies. Unfortunately, the prior conflict within the Inquisition and the destruction of most of its personnel in the sector left the Inquisition unable to stop the threat. This led to the xenos' slow takeover of the sector and its de facto separation from the Imperium when that fact was revealed.

Currently, Phorgys fights valiantly on the front lines of the xenos war, preventing them from spreading their corrupting influence further.

Official power in the sector:

The Adeptus Terra have a strong presence in this sector, although the Tardon family holds the main power in the region. This family originates from the legate of the Solar Auxilia, who commanded the troops during the conquest of this sector.

This family, as is usually the case in the Imperium, does not have the ability to directly impose their will on other worlds. Instead, they rely on using their authority to resolve conflicts and arbitrate, while making themselves valuable allies to any notable world in the sector.

Although their family started out as a military family, they are currently skilled diplomats who balance between the various factions of the sector in order to maintain influence. Their merit is the absence of conflicts between the Ecclesiarchy and the Mechanicus at a high level due to constant deals and compromises. Together with their impressive wealth, this gives them a significant indirect influence on what is happening in the sector.

At the same time, their direct influence is rather small, since the branches of the Administratum, the Arbites and many other forces of the Imperium operate in the sector formally completely independently of them.

However, it is worth noting that their position is currently under threat from the Eagle Wrath sub-sector head. Selene Artos, having no ties to the Ecclesiarchy, has managed to convince them to relinquish formal authority over the sub-sector and is multiplying her influence to attempt to take over as head of the entire sector.

Overall, however, the sector is currently in a favorable economic position. Friendly relations with the Adeptus Mechanicus of the Hearth of Gorgon provide the sector with the necessary goods, and there are no significant economic problems in any parts of the sector other than the Gorgon Teeths Sub-Sector. While the Mechanicus supply the sector with spaceships and manufactured goods, the rest of the sector controls all of the food supply and half of the mineral supply. This makes both parties mutually dependent and results in a lack of conflict and close interaction.

Political forces within the sector - Members of the Adeptus Terra:

The name for the massive branching organization that contains the Adepta of the Imperium, under the umbrella of the Administratum. Those working for (not indentured, enserfed, employed) one of these organizations are the closest thing in the Imperium to true 'Citizens.' and actually have rights and legal protection.

Sector Administratum. The Sector Administratum is present in its mass mainly on the sector capital, as well as on every major sector world, be it a forge world or a hive world. Compared to other sectors, there is an increased number of employees from the Officio Agricultae who provide a calculation of the necessary food supplies to the various worlds. On the other hand, the sector suffers from a lack of Officio Medicae, as historically this role has been filled by the Order of the Adepta Sorroritas.

League of Chartist Captains. As with most sectors, they provide the bulk of the supplies needed for the various worlds of the Imperium. However, in this sector, the position of the Chartist Captains is not so strong, as there is a dynasty of Rogue Traders independent of them, which is not connected with periodic flights, but instead is based on the needs of the market. In addition, the Explorator Fleet operates in the same sector, whose resource demands, given their unpredictable movement, make resupplying worlds a difficult task.

Adeptus Astra Telepathica. Like many large sectors, this sector has several hidden Scholastia Psykana strongholds dedicated to training the necessary psykers for the needs of the sector. The sector is also regularly visited by Black Ships, which bring too unstable or too promising psykers to Terra.

Battlefleet Phorgys. As befits any full-fledged sector of the Imperium, the Phorgys sector maintains its own Imperial fleet. The presence of a large shipbuilding center capable of producing even large spaceships led to an unusual saturation of the sectoral fleet with large ships. Unfortunately, this happens to the detriment of small escort ships.

Adeptus Arbites. As the sector faces the threat of xenos capable of controlling human bodies, the forces of the Adeptus Arbites are reinforced and on high alert at all times.

Political forces within the sector - Imperial Organizations not bound to the Adeptus Terra:

These organisations, although part of the Imperium and therefore bound to the High Lords of Terra for those chosen men and women interpret the Will of the Emperor, are not part of the Adeptus Terra and outside of its chain of command.

Brown Titan. Brown Titan is the largest Mechanicus influence in the sector, with multiple Forge Worlds in the same star system. The system itself includes only one planet - a gas giant orbiting a single star. However, the giant itself and its satellites more than atone for the absence of other interesting things.

This gas giant is surrounded by a huge ring along its equator. At the same time, the speed of rotation of the ring is so low that the natural gravity of the planet is present on the ring, albeit weaker than the Terran standard. The very design of this ring is many times more complex than the similar ring of Mars, however, the ancient mechanisms located on the ring and supporting thermonuclear reactions in the bowels of the gas giant are of great interest.

Since the ring is located around a gas giant, larger than Saturn and Jupiter located in the Solar System, the size of the ring is huge. On its surface there are segments the size of a small continent that have not been visited by anyone for centuries. And even now, only a small part of this ring has actually been explored.

In addition to the ring itself, the gas giant has sixty-eight satellites, four of which are classified as independent Forge Worlds and are planets ranging in size from Mars to Terra. Each of these worlds is a junior world to Brown Titan and is bound by vassal oaths. Other satellites and numerous void stations are directly subordinate to Mechanicus authorities in the sector.

Great Bastion. Formally another part of the Mechanicus in this region, the Great Bastion is a community of Questor Mechanicus holdings that are dependent either on the main forge world or on one of the four minor worlds. This creates an intricate feudal system of relationships between the various knightly houses.

Legio Celestia. Directly subordinate to Brown Titan, this Legio protects Forge World itself and the rest of the sector. However, this Legio lost its greatness long ago, back in the days of the Great Heresy War. The reason is simple - the once huge Legio lost most of its truly mighty Titans on Beta-Garmon, while Brown Titan has no knowledge of restoring machine data. As a result, although the Legio regained their numbers, they were forced to switch to many times lighter Titans for their needs. As a result, the once powerful Legion of the Primus (Minoris) class ended up in the Tercius class.

Full name: Legio Celestia Ordo Titanica.

Military class: Tercius.

Patent: pre-imperial, Brown Titan Mechanicus.

Protected area: Sector Phorgys.

Nickname: Winged Ones

Allied Warrior Houses: Knight Houses of Great Bastion.

Loyalty: Fidelitas Constantus.

Knights of Empyrean. The Sons of Jaghatai Khan have long been one of two groups of Astartes that reside in this sector. Like the Steel Colossi, they arrived with several purposes, and one of them is to counter a possible threat from the Body Eaters. The Data Astartes, although they do not have their own planet, have been present in the sector since M38, becoming an important part of the sector.

Vor Tarpinis Rogue Trader Dynasty. The vor Tarpinis dynasty was born during the Great Crusade, descending from among the representatives of the aristocracy of the space station Magadan between Terra and Luna. More than a century of service to the Imperium has earned them the reward of holdings that they retain to this day. The autonomy of the vor Tarpinis dynasty in this sector is approved by decree of Ferrus Manus and subsequently confirmed by the Emperor himself, and therefore can be revoked by the decision of the Lords of Terra, the Regent of Terra, or the Emperor himself.

Phorgys sector is broken up into five sub-sectors.

Hearth of Gorgon Sub-Sector

This sub-sector includes the star system owned by the Adeptus Mechanicus, which is a great forge world, as well as many dependent worlds, whether Questor Mechanicum worlds or mining worlds. This is the source of a huge amount of industrial goods, weapons, and almost all spaceships in the sector are created here.

This sub-sector is an Adeptus Mechanicus Fief. On the border of war with Xeno empire.

Gorgon Teeths Sub-Sector
An old and venerable sector that has gone through the greatest centuries of its development. Proximity to the xenos, their frequent attacks and devastating wars, have led to the devastation of most of the sub-sector's agro-worlds and its economic decline. The major hive worlds are still alive, but their period of economic prosperity is over. Many worlds have been turned into frontier fortresses to protect the rest of the sector.

On the border of war with Xeno empire.

Gorgon Sub-Sector
The formal sector capital, built on a world that was an important stronghold for the Tenth Legion during the Great Crusade. These worlds were once built as a huge supply center, but gradually the influence of the Astartes left this sector, and the sub-sector became simply the main center of the region. Worlds in this sector are currently suffering from moderate overpopulation, but there are no overly serious problems.

Sectoral capital with the biggest population.

Eagle Wrath Sub-Sector
This sub-sector is heavily influenced by the Ecclesiarchy, as it was once the center of power for the Xeno Empire, which was destroyed by the Emperor of Man personally. The capital world of that empire was destroyed and split into pieces, but the once uninhabited moon of this planet was turned into a shrine world. The sector is heavily influenced by the Ecclesiarchy, which unites under a single leadership.

Second center of civilization in the sector.

Gorgon Grace Sub-Sector
The Gorgon Grace Sub-Sector was founded by Rogue Trader, who gathered crucial data for the Tenth Legion to take over this stretch of space without great losses. In response, the primarch himself granted him a sub-sector of space. Throughout its history, this dynasty has repeatedly found itself on the verge of destruction, but control over the sub-sector allowed them to retreat to the old possessions and recover.

This sector is Off-Limits to the Phorgys Sector authorities.

Known Alien Threats:

The threat posed by the nefarious Xenos can never truly be forgotten.

Body Eaters is the Imperial designation for a xenos species that the Imperium first encountered in M35 when they infiltrated an adjacent sector. Subsequent studies showed that representatives of this xenos breed do not have a full-fledged culture, as well as a permanent designation for self-identification, therefore this slang name was retained.

The nature of the Body Eaters is of interest to the servants of the Imperium, as their way of survival is clearly unnatural. Although they can exist separately from other creatures, their main ability is to seize control over the body of a person (or other xenos), gnaw their way into the body, climb inside and seize control of the body, as well as gaining access to the memories of the victim. This fact suggests that either these organisms were an unusual type of parasite, or they were created artificially for unknown purposes.

The ability to seize control of a victim's body and personality makes Body Eaters nearly ideal creatures to infiltrate the social fabric of the Imperium in order to seize control. Having first entered one of the hive worlds with a group of only 50 individuals, in just a century these xenos multiplied to approximately ten thousand individuals, and were also able to penetrate even the top authorities of this sector.

During their infiltration, the sector's Inquisition and Adeptus Arbites were all but disbanded due to a war within the Inquisition half a century earlier, which was ended by the Adeptus Astartes, who destroyed the sector's Inquisition almost entirely. This is recognized as the main reason why their infiltration was not noticed until it was too late.

Three centuries after their appearance in the sector, when the Body Eaters began to infiltrate neighboring sectors and were noticed, they had already carried out the actual takeover of most of the worlds in this sector. As a result, after the first unsuccessful attempts to regain control over the sector, this part of the Imperium was recognized as lost.

The lack of control by the Imperium allowed these creatures to emerge from the shadows and at the same time begin to create their own social structure. The disadvantage of their control over the body is that the body becomes useless within two to five years, after which it is necessary to find a new one. This has resulted in a huge human population remaining in the former sector, which is used as slaves, as well as temporary bodies for their masters.

The internal politics of the Body Eaters are unknown to anyone in the Imperium (at least officially), but they began to actively operate in an attempt to take over the Phorgys sector approximately four centuries ago. As it unfortunately turned out, even under the control of the vile xenos, the sector retained much of its technological advancement and proved capable of both fielding a sizable fleet force and a functional army fighting to Imperial standards.

However, it is these xenos themselves that pose the greatest threat to any heroes of the Imperium. Although this fact is not confirmed with absolute certainty, it is believed that the xenos not only can capture memories and skills from bodies, but accumulate knowledge and skills from each captured body. This causes these xenos to purposely hunt champions, as well as scientists of xenos and Imperium, in order to increase their skills and knowledge.

I imagine that we'll be dealing with body eater infiltrators?

Not necessarily, they may decide to expand their empire. They may come here to kidnap several million new slaves. They may come to the planet as part of a targeted hunt for someone whose knowledge they want to gain.

Now think about who on our planet possesses colossal technological knowledge that is rarely found even among the Magos of the Adeptus Mechanicus?

[X] Plan: Amidst a Sea of Strife

Intriguing possibilities. Better adapted to handle our (arguably) biggest threat, Chaos, who will certainly do some sneaking around if we are doing things right. Shame we wouldn't be min maxing with Corporatism as the economic management choice but it is still a solid path nonetheless.

Okay, if anyone more add vote for "Soldiers In Gardens", you get additional elimination round with description of your options.

BTW, what I can say right not - combination of corporativism and police state... Your planet closes equivalent would be fascists Italy.

Fine. We have a winner, as expected - it will be your version of Fascist Italy. In fact, this is far from the worst option on the planet that you could get. I will release a post for you about the planet at start, and then I will start doing the first turn.

However, I want to raise another issue with the players. How do you feel about the fact that the voting was not in the format of a plan?

I explain. You have a vote where there are ten options, but only two will win. However, anyone can vote for any number of options. I only pick the two that get the most votes.

For example, one person might vote like this:
Question 1, option 2.
Question 1, option 3.
Question 1, option 6.
Question 1, option 8.
Question 1, option 9.

Another will vote like this:
Question 1, option 3.

The third one will vote like this:
Question 1, Option 5.
Question 1, Option 9.

Based on the total of three votes, Option 3 and Option 9 win.

So this planet has a secret police, likely part of the Death Cult, along with an exiled branch of the local ecclesiarchy and our own brand of tech-priests and a bunch of radicals. There is also a group of Squats chilling in their city and a lizardfolk abhuman strain. We also have a booming tourism even though we are right next door to a hostile alien empire.

Being fascist Italy-like evidently didn't stop us from being a rather diverse and odd-ball planet.

The only thing that worries me is the mortality rate of the planet. I imagine it is similar to that of a deathworld, but instead of deadly fauna or flora, you are killed by the different groups that you should avoid accidentally offending in your normal day.

In terms of diversity, look at them a little differently. For example, an Ecclesiarchy enclave will look more like the Vatican on your planet. And squats, for example, may not live on your planet, but on a neighboring piece of stone. Your planet is not as diverse as you might think, rather there are several other centers of development that have lived under the auspices of the Astartes in return for certain services that have been deemed valuable enough to accept.

The only thing that worries me is the mortality rate of the planet. I imagine it is similar to that of a deathworld, but instead of deadly fauna or flora, you are killed by the different groups that you should avoid accidentally offending in your normal day.

LOL. But it's can happend now, when you are governor, not Astartes.

EDIT: In addition, please note, I understand that the views of our Astartes are more than unorthodox. I'm sure I haven't done anything outright heretical at this point. On the other hand, for me this is an opportunity to make the situation on the planet saturated from the start. Probably, the concentration of groups described is too high for what can be found on an ordinary planet... On the other hand, the defense of the Astartes can attract a wide variety of factions.

I know it hasn't been updated in a long time, but the quest is by no means abandoned, it's just that I was given the task of reading two million words as quickly as possible. Task completed, now I can return to the quest.
