Death World creature quest

darn misspelled one word and was suppose to be any oh well they get the idea of it do we have infrared vision echolocation we will find out later on i guess.

darn i forgot that still dont understand how we can see without being able to see what are we daredevil wheres animalkrazed xplain that xplain it please.
Got permission from Badger through PM. Here you go. :)

The idea of vibration sense in the Quest was actually pretty accurate to real life. Lots of animals do it, whether it be air vibration, ground vibration, or water displacement.

One of the ideas I had was that we are sensing things through vibration, like you said. In the Velvet Worm link I made on your thread earlier, they stated that though the Velvet Worm had incredibly poor eye sight, that it still had accurate aim through vibration sense. It could tell where things were via their movement displacing air around. Sharks and plenty of fish also have an aquatic version so it isn't that much of a jump to say that we sense things through a similar method. That one is probably the most well known.

Elephants can use something most akin to what I think we are using, mainly sensing vibration of footsteps and rumbling of infrasound from elephants around them, allowing them to communicate with one another over incredibly long distance.

You could probably have use develop along these lines through adaptation so that we could sense further and further off. As we are know, our sense range is just about right for detecting things. Don't show anything that isn't on the ground and our senses should stay consistent. Probably won't be able to sense anything in the trees/bushes either. Until we develop a greater sense of smell (which isn't half bad currently from how we detected the beetle corpse) or sight or ETC we won't be able to sense threats that travel by land.

TL;DR: ... We got Toph sense currently. Probably could get upgraded version of this for air/water/ETC. No see arboreal threats till get better senses.

There is enough for everything Mr. Worm. Take your piece and we'll take ours. Be our buddy. If you're dumb enough to stick around when everything else arrives and dies, we're totally eating you though.

Investigation free action:
[X] Investigate - Bushes surrounding us and the tree tops above
Due to your current position underground, it's impossible to see further than a few feet. You would have to emerge and improve your sensory organs for such an action to become successful.

-[X] Investigate the other worm

A basic looking worm with a puckered mouth part and no eyes. You can tell that it can travel surprisingly quickly based on it's rapid movements so far, as well as slip out of danger with equal ease. It unnerves you slightly, honestly.

Size comparison:

[X] Continue dragging the food in, but leave a portion of it out to satisfy any potential threats.
- [X] Eat any bits that fall off as we drag it further in.

Burying your immediate instincts until you're no longer quite as angry, you instead turn back to your task of pulling - You wouldn't want your efforts or (more importantly) the food to be wasted!

Tugging with renewed ferocity, you wiggle backwards with the meat in tow.

Whoops, in your vigour induced haze, it seems you've torn off a piece of it! Still, no sense in leaving stuff lying around...

NOM!!

Wow, that sure was tasty - But wait, what's going on!?

You feel...
Different...

Choose two adaptations from this list:
[] Beady eyes - Sensing 2.
[] Smooth armoured carapace – Armour 3, Health 2, deflection 1 (Slicing), silence 1.
[] Thin legs – Speed 3, strength 2.
[] Grabbing mandibles – Piercing 3, slicing 2.
[] Fangs – Piercing 3, Venom 1.
[] Razor mouth – piercing 1, slicing 2.

Oh no! Thanks to your momentary distraction, you didn't notice the wormy thing approach and then pass by your burrow. They are
way to close to comfort, causing you to shiver in revulsion.

And to make matters worse, it's started raining!

What do?

[] Write in.

this update was a bother for some reason, glad it's finally done.

[x] Smooth armoured carapace – Armour 3, Health 2, deflection 1 (Slicing), silence 1
[X] Thin legs – Speed 3, strength 2.

Survival is the most crucial facet of our existence for now. But some extra speed and strength for burrowing and running away after scavenging would be useful

[x] Burrow deeper before turning upwards and burrowing upwards, carve out a small cavern to wait out the rain underground.

This bunker will have some similarities to the ones used by the Viet Cong, they learned that a low curve upwards into their cave systems stopped flooding and the entrance of gas into the main chamber as they couldn't go up the curve of the slope enough

Edit: guys he said pick TWO

Gets my vote.

cmon people venom. lets get some venom its a great fighting tool.
Venom is great- for a war of attrition. Don't want to rely on it in a world full of scavengers, many too large to fight for us.

Thus, speed and survivability get my votes as most likely to keep us alive and functioning. We can become killy later.

also people remember to vote on what to do next also.

Surely thin legs would be best for now? We are scavengers at the moment so the extra speed and ability to burrow via strength seems more crucial than offensive capability as we will likely not risk attacking until we grow larger

Better to build up survivability than offensive potential this early on.
