Her lip curled in irritation. "Krishnoff, Baines. Doc wants to do another checkup to make sure I'm fit to fly. Hold the fort here until I get back." The last thing they needed was some under-qualified idiot getting it into their head to do something stupid. "And see if you can spot whatever's causing that anomaly the sensors are bugging me about while you're at it?"

Alexandra pulled up her mail program again as she made her way towards the medical bay, tapping a quick note in. She sent it just as she stepped through the door.

Given what we know about it so far, is there any risk of the anomaly the Nostra's sensors are picking up will interfere with maneuvering at this distance?

The risk to maneuvers are minimal at this distance. The gravitron reader indicates a planetary mass, a rogue planet roughly the size of Mercury. For more information, please restore the ARK's primary systems.

Thank you.

Sean was torn. On the one had, it was a risk for anyone to fly under the effects of cryosickness, and the Nostra was their only recon ship available, but Lt. Montague was exceptionally talented: if anyone could do it it was her. She'd also have her support crew on hand in case something went wrong.

More than that, there was the morale of the crew to think about. News of the Captain's death had spread, and the locking of the door would have set them further on edge. If it seemed that another avenue of relief was being shut off, even temporarily, panic would likely begin to set in: and once it started it would be much more difficult to stop. The crew had to see action being taken to remedy the situation.

Subject: Nostra Flight Assessment

Current official regulations specifies that there should be a full 24 hours between cryosleep and use of the Nostra. However, given the full realization of what we currently face, I no longer believe that waiting a full day before doing so may be in our best interests, especially given that it is at least 12 hours until the main lift blast doors can be breached.

Lt. Ellecon, would you be capable of doing an assessment of Lt. Montague to determine if, in your professional medical opinion, she is physically capable of flying the Nostra this soon after emergence from Cryosleep.

If so, and you would give your professional medical approval for Lt. Montague to fly, it is my hope that both Lt. Commander Segreti and Lt. Nielsen could provide a secondary assessment - for Segreti to confirm Ellecon's medical assessment, and for Nielsen to determine if, in his professional medical opinion, Lt. Montague is mentally fit to fly the Nostra this soon after Cryosleep. This is, of course, provided that both Segreti and Nielsen are able to spare the time to do so in light of their current investigation into the death of Captain Bischoff.

Should all three clear Montague to fly, and Montague deems herself willing and able to do so, we will then forego the 24 hour regulation and immediately assemble a team who will use the Nostra to reach Engineering.

After a battery of tests, I recommend administering a cocktail of drugs to combat the cryo sickness. After which I highly recommend Lt. Montague to return to the medical center and receive another set of tests to make sure her health is still... acceptable. Note this is not something I would approve of in any other situation were it not so critical.

Suffice to say I give my seal of approval for Lt. Montague to proceed on this mission.

"Not the sort of thing I'd expect, but..." The silence that follows on the other hand, speaks for itself.

Anything can go wrong in space, but every time you think you've accounted for every contingency, there's always something new to worry about. This whole predicament was just living proof of that.

Taking two deep breaths, Alexandra nodded to the doctor. "Injection I assume... Do we need to do it here? Or could we walk back to the Nostra first?"

Segreti knew that there really was not much to do at the time of doing a second medical checkup for Lieutenant Montague, the recommendation of Mr. Ellecon had sense and coherence.

Even so, Dante struggled to find some other symptom or complication that could cause an objection on his part. As he expected, such a thing did not appear

I have no problem with Lieutenant Ellecon's suggestion. Still, I would recommend that Lt. Montague not pilot for a too long period of time. That could lead to catastrophic results.

Like Lieutenant Ellecon, I do not feel 100% comfortable with this decision because of the danger it can entail. Even so, I trust Lieutenant Montague's capabilities as his capacity to discern his limits.

Having said that, I give my seal of approval to Lt. Montague to proceed on this mission.

Tanzin raised an eyebrow as he finished typing up his email and sent it off, "Injection? No no, these drugs only need you to swallow some pills. Those injections are for field use or stronger medicines."

He holds up a couple of bottles, "These are the ones you need to take, with water of course."

As Lt. Nielsen, Lt. Ellecon, and Lt. Cmd. Segreti have given their approval as medical professionals, the decision now lies with you.

Given the dangers that are associated with attempting this operation so soon after Cryosleep, combined with the aforementioned additional risk that have been stated to be associated with their suggested treatment, I will not order you to accept said treatment or the mission that follows, nor will I order the treatment be administered to you. Both the treatment and your acceptance of the mission of flying the Nostra to engineering are to be considered volunteer missions.

Again, the ultimate decision in this matter lies with you, and I will trust you to make the right decision, whichever that may be.

Understood. It's unfortunate news, but if we're able to find a silver lining, it does mean we should have minimal concern about the possibility of there being a saboteur aboard the Ark. At the moment, we can probably use all the good news we can find.

Hopefully, restoring systems will allow us to get the remaining answers, including why he was out of his cryo pod in the first place.

With all due respect sir, tell that to the engineers I'll be bringing with me.

"Roger that. Beginning undocking procedures now. Secure the hatch." It was the strangest she'd ever felt, like a walk right on the line between the nausea and stumbling of cryosickness and the jittery twitching of a stimulant rush. Nice and slow... One thing at a time. Her eyes flicked over the instruments, her hands manipulated the throttle, ready. It was a simple maneuver, forward, down, around, flip over, and dock at the lower airlock.

As the lights flickered to green, a puff of thrust pushing them forwards, giving them room to move.

Steps one and two finished... Only thirteen more to go.

To speak frankly sir, is it wise to send them off without security personnel? We don't know if Captain Bischoff acted alone. Segreti does not need my help at the present moment and I can accompany the Nostra if necessary.

Personal Log of Security Officer Walker
Can't say this voyage has started without catastrophic preamble. Okay that's exaggerating somewhat, the take off was good, flight was good, but once we jumped? We're off course and the Captain is dead. I didn't really know him all that well but a Captain is still a Captain and the circumstances of his death are just wrong. I'll be forwarding my views to Cmdr. Adams as soon as I finish this entry. If nothing comes from it, then nothing comes up. I'm still going to check the security footage regardless to see what happened. I owe the chain of command that much. Ensign Walker Signing off.

Sir, If I may respectively ask, has anyone checked the security footage of the Captain's last moments? It seems rather strange for a man to a lead the crew of starship and then blast his own brains out while the rest of us are in Cryo. I'll be checking the logs later today. Something about this situation doesn't seem right to me.

Ensign Walker Signing Off.

There's currently a lot about the situation that isn't right.

There's also an unfortunately strict limitation on what we're able to do based on the Ark's currently limited emergency capabilities. Much of the information we should have access to is currently cut off, limiting our available answers. Rest assured that there will be a great deal more for everyone to investigate once the Ark has been restored to full operational status.

"Never rains but it pours..." She was holding on as best she could, but the doctor's words reminding her to seek additional treatment as soon as she could loomed large. She fought down panic, bit down on the adrenaline that made her hands begin to tremble. "Alright... Alright... Let's get someone out there and get this fixed."

Adams sighed.

"Things keep getting worse all the time, don't they?" He though, then released himself from the seat and stood up.

It had been my hope to avoid addressing this directly, but my attempts to set up a contingency command with MOTHER didn't go as planned - apparently she's incapable of filing certain orders so long as the Ark remains at only part functionality.

In the event that I should either die or be rendered incapable of commanding the Ark, I'm appointing you to succeed me as Commanding Officer. While this shouldn't be an issue given you have the next highest rank and there are no other Lt. Commanders, I find it best to make it official anyhow. To help confirm it, I've filed a command with MOTHER asserting as much that should be made available once the Ark is restored.

Hopefully, this should all be unnecessary, but all things considered, I find it better to be prepared for the worst.

Roger that, Commander. Although I would feel more comfortable if you did not die, I would not like to have more responsibilities than I already have.

Leaving that aside, I feel a bit worried that any member of the crew will be in space right now. I and Lieutenant Ellecon could provide a treatment similar to what Lieutenant Montague was subjected to. But, unfortunately, I do not know what effects the combination of a drug cocktail can have on a person who will be exposed to space.

The decision is yours, Commander.
