One thing to also note about Japan is that it has it's fair share of artifacts that can be used to combat supernatural entities. Hell even the forging of a Katana is highly spiritual with it believed that the smith imparts a portion of their soul into the blade. It is why Japanese sword smiths wear all white while forging their blades so as to prevent spiritual corruption from seeping into the sword.
This is best expressed through a story of two swords placed upright in a river, one seemed to draw leaves and the like into it's blade while the other appeared to gentle push it away. This is due to how the swords were made with the one being forged bloodthirsty and battle hungry while the other being forged to never cut unjustifiably.
Umm when your fighting incorporeal spirits and angry native gods,
many of whom we probably won't have info on since the native culture is mostly oral based with no written documents we could consult. Unlike Japan which literally has a ton and dozens of festivals devoted to driving away evil spirits, for example
Setsubun.
