5 hours left, and just as many votes. Honestly kinda worried...
Possibly too open-ended. Maybe it would have been more engaging if you'd asked how casual/friendly or serious/competitive Weiss considers this particular spar to be, rather than requesting write-ins for specific tactics? Since it's a story-based quest and it's.. unclear to me for instance if our tactics here even matter for the outcome of the fight and our social subsequent interactions with Penny and Ciel. Or if it matters for our fighting style going forward, because didn't we already define that in the match against Winter? Or maybe the quest just hasn't drawn in a large enough playerbase to remain constantly visible on the first page and keep attracting new players.

"I will not stand by in the presence of evil!" Weiss proudly declared and--

--and ran away. Not too far, admittedly, just enough to stay out of Ciel's reach.

Ironwood raised eyebrows and looked at Winter.

Winter shrugged. "That's true, she doesn't standing by in the presence of an opponent. She's maneuvering."

"S-S-Shut up, guys! It's called TACTICAL POSITIONING! I'm not scared"

I always feel bad about people bullying Weiss D:

  • [X] Epic (as in really slow) Fight
    [X] Plan Full Rushdown
    -[X] Close the distance ASAP
-[X] Do a few probing attacks then try to follow up whenever an opening appears.
-[X] Stay close, don't let her set the tempo.
-[X] For the love of go-...whatever don't let her do weapon shenanigans. Shut down whatever gimmick she tried and pull out.
[X] Plan Full Rushdown V2. Rapidly Move Downwards At Increased Velocity!
-[X] Close the distance ASAP. Don't just do a stab though, that'd be bad and easily punished.
-[X] Do a few probing attacks then try to follow up whenever an opening appears.
-[X] Stay close, don't let her set the tempo. Maybe throw ice dust into the floor or fire dust into her face.
-[X] For the love of go-...whatever don't let her do weapon shenanigans. Shut down whatever gimmick she tried and pull out if shes going to trap you.
-[X] Oh, and if it's wires or metal or something conductive...well you do have LIGHTNING dust. Use it.
-[X] If constructs can be created quickly and easily feel free to use them at any point (something to help cover your approach, blades or simple constructs to attack from different angles, etc..).
[X] Epic (as in really slow) Fight
-[X] Disengage and allow your aura to charge up, use your lightness to keep distance from Ciel and watch how she reacts and what weapons she uses.
-[X] Use your massive database to store Ciel's fighting style and find a counter for it.
-[X] If she gets close, use ice dust to block her. See how she deals with obstacles, and her fighting style.
-[X] If she uses long range attacks such as with guns, counter with fire dust, and use wind dust to propel yourself towards her, throw off her aim.
-[X] Look for an opening, but keep on the defensive. Silly humans have stamina issues, and you can dodge her attacks while wearing her out.
-[X] When an opening is found, use lightning dust to shock her into submission!

Taking the slow and Steady route? Good choice.

Voting Closed!

You don't try to set the tempo against Ciel. It just doesn't work well.

Well she's not on team FNKI. :V

Since the only thing we know about her from canon that could be used as a theme is "Time/Watch", then mention of a tempo makes me think of the ticking of a clock's metronome. Something to do with enforcing a steady rhythm.
Isn't the clock/timer thing already the semblance of that lady who fought Maria in the past?

Broken Promise
You have no idea what Ciel can do. You don't know her weapon, her fighting style, you don't know if she's unlocked her semblance, and if so, what it is. So, naturally, you want to play it safe.

When you step into the arena, you can't even see Ciel's weapon at first, but then your attention is drawn to what looked, from a distance, like arm guards. Now that you look closer, though… she's holding them. Tonfa.

Winter steps back as Penny watches from the stands. "The fight goes until I decide that one of you has landed a decisive blow on another, one of you is sent out of the ring, or one of you is low on aura." She brings up a screen showing your aura reserves – yours has already taken a decent hit. "I want a good, clean fight. Are both sides ready?"

You nodded. Ciel smirked. "Ready."

"Begin."

For a few moments, neither of you moved, each daring the other to make the first attack. It also gave you some time for your aura to recharge.

Apparently, Ciel notices that too. She flicks one of her tonfa forward, turning it into a small pistol, and fires. You dodge out of the way, only for the world to twist around you. You're suddenly at the edge of the ring, and Ciel is charging toward you.

Not wasting a moment, you create a wall of ice. Ciel seems to not have planned for that, so you are able to runaround the ice, closer to the center of the ring so she couldn't force you to ring out.

This did have the consequence of getting you closer to her, though, and that seemed to be the range she thrived at. She goes in for close quarters, and you had to admit, she is pretty skilled. She seems to be trying to keep you off-guard, and trying to get in close for a grapple, but you manage to keep her at an arms length, thanks to Myrtenaster. Even so, she persistently tries to get up close, even firing her weapons a few times, which catches you off guard at first, but you quickly manage to adapt. She manages to nick you once, which was when you notice that her tonfa – one of which was blue, the other white – were bladed.

It was like a dance, except the two of you were trying to skewer each other.

During your dance, you catch a glimpse of the screen, and you notice that, even though Ciel hasn't taken any hits yet, her aura has gone down. You don't have time to think about that now, though.

Eventually, Ciel reaches one of her tonfa down to her belt, where there are cartridges of dust. Seeing your chance, you turn Myrtenaster to your Electricity Dust and fire, shocking Ciel and causing her to convulse before you release it, causing her to fall to the ground, conscious but exhausted. And smoking slightly.

"And that settles it." Winter stepped onto the field. "Both of you did very well..." You beamed. "...but you also have a long ways to go."

You and Ciel nodded, and Ciel stood up and brushed herself off a bit, before turning to you. "So-"

"Weiss! Ciel!" You are both suddenly tackled by Penny. From the corner of your eye, you can see Winter smiling as she walks out of the room "That was an amazing battle, although I do not understand why you had to fight in the first place." Neither do you, frankly, but you didn't say so.

"Penny… too tight." Ciel gasped. Ah right, humans needed to breathe. Penny released the two of you, and Ciel took a few breaths before turning to you. "So, how did I do?"

"Hey!" Penny interrupted the two of you. "Aren't you forgetting something?"

What- oh right, your 'birthday'. "Right. Mother and Winter are probably waiting for me." You refused to think about your father. He said he'd be there, there was no reason to worry.

Penny smiled. "Yes exactly! A birthday is a momentous occasion to celebrate with friends!"

"So?" You asked. Where was she going with this?

"Well, all of the TV shows I watch say that now that the two of you fought, you and Ciel are friends now." Oh, is that how friends are made? "So how about it, Ciel? Wanna come?" Wait, shouldn't it be your choice…?

Ciel shrugged. "Sure. I mean, I was only here because you said that I could watch Miss Schnee… er, Winter, fight, but I don't see any reason not to go."

The tree of them head off to Family Room 4 (Family Celebrations) and walk in. Things seem to be all set up. There are tacky banners (no doubt thanks to Geppetto), five present boxes, your favorite foods (Nobody knew why you ran on food instead of, say, Dust), and couches for the guests.

Mother and Whitley were on one of the couches – Whitley pouting and Mother relatively sober – and Geppetto was on the other couch, tinkering with something. Klein was standing in the background – his 'Doc' personality at the forefront, as evidenced by his light-brown eyes.

As Penny went to sit with her father, you looked around the room, trying to find a certain face and failing.

Klein, apparently, noticed your searching and cleared his throat. "I'm… afraid that Mister Schnee had to attend a meeting with some shareholders, and will not be attending this evening."

No.

No! He had… he had promised you… that he would come...

[] Stay silent. + Whitley

[] Thank Klein. ++ Klein

[] Storm off to your room. + Winter, Bianca

[] Storm off somewhere secret. + Ciel, Penny

[] Call your father and get to the bottom of this. + Jacques

AN: I honestly didn't consider the theme for Ciel until recently. If you have to associate her with a character, I'd say the closest match might be Jiminy Cricket. I admit it's a bit of a stretch though.

Oh, is that how friends are made?
No! Penny, you're supposed to be a good influence!

Hello hello.

And goodbye goodbye. Jacques Schnee can sit on a dick and rotate. I'll be voting for

[X] I almost lost.

Because it ties into Weiss' confidence issues, and

[X] Storm off to your room. + Winter, Bianca

Because we might not get another chance to grind familial relationships.

I want to get this out there now: There will be consequences for not keeping relations with Jacques. I'm not going to say what those consequences are though, or even whether or not they're worth the time you need to maintain the relationship.

OoOoh, spoOoOky, I'm so scared! :V

Spelling errors.
Eventually, Ciel reaches one of her tonfa down to her belt, where there are cartridges of dust.

I had a hard time getting a feel for the dynamic of the fight, so I'm not really sure how well Ciel actually did against Weiss. I don't think she ever really put her in any real danger of losing, so this option
just feels like a blatant exaggeration. There's being humble, and then there's being disingenuous.

[X] You gave me a challenge.

[X] Thank Klein.

It's just good manners.
