But what of the significance of our data? Are we only taking from this year's battles? What's the size of confidence intervals that we'll apply? How can we account for Type I and Type II errors?
Also, will that purity of logic affect these emotional humans positively? Will this pacify them, or just make their rivalry more fierce? And most importantly... how will this affect their view of you?
Looking forward to how you figure this out. :D

[bleh] Call Ruby a dolt and Cardin a bird.

[X] Consult the win-loss statistics of shifting vs combo weapon users in the tournament. The proof is in the doing

[X] Convince them both that their ways are both in need of improvement. Ruby needs to make her mechanisms less complicated, Cardin needs to consider various opponents of varying strengths.
-[X] Buuuut, if they're still petulant, refer them to a weapon exhibition contest of some sort. There should be one here to decide this once and for all.

Okay... We're going to need a tiebreaker before the votes end in 4 hours.

Canon Omake: BWHN Vs. NDGO (Plausitivity)
BHWN vs NDGO
"Contestants, get your teams on the field and ready to battllllleeeee!!!"

Bianca fanned herself with her folding fan. "My! The announcer is really excited now, isn't he?"
"Yes, well, it's only natural to have excitement build up slowly as fights are completed throughout the day." Beside Bianca, Cheren commented as he polished his shield. "After all, this is mainly a show."
"Hey! 'Mainly a show'??? You're talking a lot of trash for someone so smart!" Hugh jumped up, his giant bush of hair quaking, katanas shaking in their scabbards.
Sitting cross-legged on the floor was Natural, also known as 'N'. He put up a hand. "Hugh. Please don't get excited. I'm trying to concentrate for the fight."
"You guys are all so lame! At least N is serious about the fight..." Hugh managed to say, before being punched lightly on the shoulder by Bianca.
"Hey! No name-calling! We're a team, Hugh! And I'm plenty serious, so is Cheren! Just because we don't show our serious face like you all the time doesn't mean that we're not taking it seriously!"
"...fine. Let's just get this over with." Hugh sighed and made his way to the gate, with the rest of the team following.

--------

The field was a flat plain, with a cliff overhanging the middle. NDGO strutted up to the middle, with BHWN doing the same.

"Competitors! On your marks!"

Nebula finished calibrating her crossbow's string tension, ready to level it towards the opposing team.

"Get set..."

Cheren hefted his shield, which glowed with its inlaid technology and a faint green color.

"Go!"

As the sound was made, Nebula and Gwen, in a moment of synchronization, fired their respective weapons. Nebula's bolt found a mark on Cheren's torso-covering shield, only to be absorbed!
"Shoot. Girls, that shield absorbs projectiles. Focus the others." Nebula commanded, and the other girls nodded, each going after another combatant.

"Come on! Let's see what you've got!" Hugh pulled out his dual blades, swiftly stepping forward while N laid down suppression fire with his dual dragon-shaped blasters. Fire dust exploded around NDGO, causing smoke and regular dust to form a cloud.

Dew, realizing the lowering visibility, pointed her staff to the ground, then slowly twirled it around until... a tornado had formed, sucking up all the particulates in the air, turning into a dust devil, staying beside Dew.

"Good job!" Nebula shouted, advancing with another volley of shots.
However, when the last bit of dust settled, there were strange... creatures in their wake. Had BHWN summoned monsters of some kind? Some were fox-like and quick, while others were bird-like and flying. There were many others, shooting ice and dashing around, distracting NDGO from the fight...
Cheren and Bianca took the opportunity to jump in, beelining for Nebula and Dew, respectively.

Nebula switched back to sword mode, taking a moment to jump over a furious swipe from a bear-sized dark fox! She slashed downwards, and instead of flesh, there was... shadows.
The creature dissipated into a dark, wispy material, and before Nebula could ponder that, Cheren smashed down onto her with his shield, it breathing out a wall of flames, swallowing Nebula. She screamed, and was knocked face-down into the dirt.

Cheren made some hand gestures on his shield, and it switched to have arcs of electricity flow out.
He smashed the shield at Nebula, only to be thrown up into the air as his arm came down. The tornado Dew made this time was huge. There were rocks, dirt, chunks of shrubs flying through the air, buffeting the combatants.

Nebula got up, turning to see Dew get blasted by a gas from the staff-wielding Bianca.
The cloud emitted from a spin of the staff, similar to Dew's method. With the tornado raging, the gas spread out, covering all four of the girls.
"Whaa..." Nebula became terribly tired, and saw Dew fall down. "N-noo..." As her eyes closed, Nebula saw a figure run up behind Bianca, while small explosions sprouted up around the ground.

Octavia was quickly sliding over the ground and, in one smooth motion, stabbing her kris into Bianca's back. Whether the source of the gas was the staff or her semblance, she needed to be taken down.
The kris glowed black, pushing Bianca to the ground as it impacted.
"Ahh! Please!" Bianca called out before being beaten until her aura ran out.

"Bianca Whitewood is eliminated!"

"Ow... you're... mean..." Bianca laid on the ground, staring at the sky.

"...Sorry." Octavia said, before turning to the blasted blaster-wielding N. He had taken a bit of time to calibrate his weapons. Looked like he had to recharge them with his aura as well...
The creatures he summoned were still around, but none of them were dealing damage, and all died in one hit, as you realized when cutting a giant rocky ball into some black, wispy substance.

Not taking any chances, you focus on the electric dust in your kris, and slice vertically through the air, right at N. His eyes widened, and he leaped out of the way before dropping his blasters, which were hit by the shocking wave.
N felt the chill of steel smack into this side, knocking the air out of his lungs.

"Natural Gropius is eliminated!"

Nebula stood groggily above the fallen N, making sure he's alright.
"Ugh. Gotta work on my semblance." N smiled faintly.

Subconsciously, Nebula shifted her sword into crossbow mode as she turned. The double sword boy was... where was he?

"AAAAHHHH! TAKE THIS!" A cry came from behind the small hill to the right. Gwen flew over the hill her knives scattering over the ground.
Following her was a really furious Hugh.
"THIS. CANNOT. STAND!" He ran at Dew, who was just waking back up.
"Nhhh...?" Dew managed to groan out. She tried to wave her arms to deflect somehow, but her aura got cut by the blue haired swordsman.

"Dew Gayl is eliminated!"

"One down..." Hugh growled at Nebula, his arms outstretched. "Come get some!"
Then he took off.
It was magnificent, his determination, his speed, the way he held both arms behind his back for minimum air drag.
It wasn't enough for him to get blindsided be Nebula's parry and roundhouse kick, however. He dropped to the ground, head impacting with a bump.
Rolling backwards, Hugh crawled back, when he saw a wall of fire shoot out nearby. Cheren.

Cheren had tried blasting Octavia with fire, but she was simply too quick, dancing around the flames like her last name suggested. Hugh and Nebula looked over, but quickly refocused on the other.

Furrowing his brows, Hugh saw Nebula still having the crossbow configuration, and charged right into her. What he didn't expect was for her to release the bolt right underfoot.
An explosion of black gravity energy threw the two of them back, Hugh into Cheren, and Nebula safely into a suitable range, before loading another bolt.

Cheren and Hugh were in a pile, weapons and shield lying beside them. With one motion, Octavia swiped right, covering the two battered boys in fire dust.

"Cheren and Hugh are eliminated in a combo double knockout! Indigo wins!!!"

The audience cheered loudly for Octavia, with some for the other teammates. The other girls were helping each other and BWHM up.
"Thanks for the fight, Cheren. That shield really got irritating the first time!" Nebula patted Cheren on the back, causing him to wince a little.
"Yeah, need to work on absorption. Good luck on the next bracket. The other teams are way stronger than we are right now." Cheren replied, holding his head down, exhausted.
Hugh was more exhausted. "ARRGH! Okay, that was a pretty decent fight. I got SO pumped up!"
"Yeah, but you were kind of going crazy, from my memories when sleepy..." Bianca perked up.
"That was painful... my semblance needs more work." N comes over to the rest of the team. "I'm going to get a shower."
"Hey! Right, let's get a good bite after that's done!" Hugh follows, their other teammates in tow.

Gwen, for some reason, said: "That dual sword boy is pretty cool."
Nebula smacked her own face. "Oh, no... let's just also get washed and get on with it. Today's been tiring."

Going for the objective option? Alright.

Voting Closed!

You aren't sure if they can handle pure statistics.

I might not be able to get the chapter out today. Sorry, things just happened... I'll try not to let it happen again!

Proving Yourself
You know from your lessons that in a position like this this, appeasing both parties is essential, and when emotions run high, you should use logic to calm them down.

You briefly consider looking up the official statistics from previous competitions to settle the arguement, but decide not to, in case the statistics favor one side or the other. Instead, you look between the two of them and sigh. "Both combo and morphing weapons have their advantages. On one hand, Cardin does have a point – while all weapons require regular maintenance, it's especially important for a morphing weapon, as if they are not well-maintained, they will likely jam."

Cardin smirks at Ruby.

"On the other hand, if your weapon is functionally useless against an opponent for one reason or another, then you would be able to change tactics easily with a morphing weapon, while with a combo weapon, you'd be left a sitting duck, so to speak."

Cardin seems to deflate a bit, but he nods. "Right… my mace would probably suck at hitting a flying opponent."

"You have a weapon?!" Ruby brightens up. "Can I see?!"

"Uh, sure?" Cardin inches back a bit. "I mean, I've only got blueprints right now, but..."

"Show me." Ruby says. "Show me show me show me."

"Now hold on!" You interrupt. "I told Ruby's uncle that I would watch over her-"

"You can come with us!" Ruby beams.

That is how a fourteen-year-old girl drags the children of two of the most influential families in Remnant off to look at blueprints for a mace. At least Ruby is happy. +Ruby!

After the fact, Cardin gives you his contact information, so that you two could chat. You don't like him too much, but you accept his contact info anyway.

*

After the impromptu engineering session with Ruby ends, you drop Ruby off at Qrow's hotel room and return to your own room. (What a coincidence that the two of you were staying in the same hotel.)

In the hotel room Father had reserved for you, you wait until 7:30, then make your way to the address that you had been given.

(You bring Myrtenaster with you, just to be safe.)

It turns out to be a training compound, which is… interesting. Nonetheless, you head inside.

To your surprise, the first person you see inside was Penny. "Oh, Weiss!" She smiles. "This is a positive, if unexpected, happenstance! What are you doing here?"

"I was given a note. It said something about Ciel being in trouble."

Penny blinks. "That is odd. I was given a note that matches that description."

"Well that is disturbing." You try not to jump upon hearing your sister's voice, and you turn around to see her standing there. "If the three of us were all invited here, then Hannah must be serious… for once."

"I take offense to that," A voice drones. You turn to see Hannah Soleil leaning against the door to the combat area. "Still, thanks for coming, all of you."

"What is all of this about, Hannah?" Winter asks. "No, before that, why call all of us here?"

"Isn't it obvious?" She asks, then points to you and Penny. "I want to see the kids' strength."

What? "But you said-"

"I do want you to help out Ciel," Hannah interrupts, "but I want to see how strong you two are, how hard you two are willing to fight for Ciel. I've got a deal with the manager of this place, so don't worry about that."

You turn to Winter, who nods, though there is a frown on her face.

You look at Penny, and she smiles. "I'm combat ready."

You can't help but smile. Penny didn't even consider refusing an option.

You turn to Hannah. "Fight to 50%?"

She smiles. "Sounds good to me." She opens the door and walks in. The three of you hesitantly follow.

You and Penny are fighting an enemy of somewhat known capability!

By reviewing the footage of the
LHLC Vs. LEMN fight, you were able to discern that Hannah has had a semblance that lets her 'push' or 'pull' people, and that she has extensive training.

Penny has the same weapons as in canon, but she does not have as much experience in fighting.

Penny is unsure of what to do, and is looking to you for providing her strategy.

What is your strategy?

I didn't intend for Ruby and Cardin to become friends. I swear I didn't.

Sorry for the late chapter. Voting ends tomorrow at the normal time.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH why is Cardin a reasonable human being here? This feels wrong D:

But yeah I'll refrain from voting on this since I wrote Hannah. Have fun, lads and ladettes.

Everyone, give these dice a round of applause for being so fair. And... everything else really. I couldn't have made it this far with the same level of quality without you, Plausitivity.
Thanks, I'm now one big amalgamated dice, supporting nekos everywhere!

Okay, so I know that I heavily implied that I would be patient for votes, and I'm sorry for being a pest, but it's been three hours.
I'm getting worried.

Hey m9, elections have wound down, and it's nearly weekend, don't sweat it if people are a bit slow on the uptake, you see?
Because I'm sure they're at least wondering who the hell Hannah is and how to fight her lol.

I'm not good at fight plans, so I'm not confident to make or choose a vote...

Was hoping someone else would, but I suppose I'll make a strategy. One reason I didn't was the chance of overlooking info. So have one that hopefully someone will improve on! Or simplify. I'm not sure about quality at all.

[] Going by Hannah's semblance, chances are that no matter what range yourself or penny go into. Chances are that one of you or both will suddenly find yourselves pushed or pulled thanks to her semblance. One method could be to simply anchor yourselves to the ground, but that would negate the advantages of mobility. So it would perhaps be best if you both coordinated with each other in a way to turn her potential semblance use against her.
-Penny will start off by engaging Hannah with her weapons with some distance while Weiss attempts to quickly close the distance, periodically creating barriers of ice in a zig zag pattern as she goes. These should help not only for defense, but also just in case one of the two are pushed or pulled as well as a defense.
-If at any point Hannah focus goes to Weiss, Penny should take cover and prepare for more powerful attacks.
-At all times you both should expect to suddenly be pulled or pushed.
--If and when this happens, the affected party can take advantage of it.
--If Penny is pulled she should be prepared to utalize her numerous blades to try and overwhelm Hannah and hopefully seperate her weapon from her temporarily. Weiss would then try and close range as well though attempt to avoid coming in such a way that would leave it possible for Hannah to push Penny into weiss.
--If she's pushed though she should try to quickly find cover and prepare to do a heavier ranged attack while weiss works to quickly close the distance to distract her.
--If its Weiss whose pulled she should attempt to quickly switch to another dust type such as fire and engage in close range.
--If she's pushed attempt to recover quickly and try to retake cover.
-Basically if ones affected, the other should provide cover by attacking so as the other can recover and assume a better position. They shouldn't stay next to eachother so as Hannah will have to divide her attention and lessens the likelihood of one being used to hit the other.
-To counter the ranged threat, Weiss either dodges or creates a barrier. While Penny utalizes her blades in such a way resembling a shield while spinning them quickly.
