Combinatorial Explosion (Worm/Original)

...I was wondering why that was.

The extinct condor eagle has a wingspan of ten feet, and swans possess muscles strong enough that their non-punch flaps can cause bruising or broken bones. Ostriches have several bones that are not hollow, but are like our own for added strength.

Just by cherry-picking bird traits, you can get a five foot long heavily muscled arm with talons and solid strong bones, ignoring all other power multipliers like magic or physical training.

Maybe we should set aside some time to be summoned. Could help us get some more advanced knowledge and would probably give Seeker some street cred.

So magic leaves a residue even after disintegrating. Something like "subatomic" mana particles after radioactive decay might be possible, but I doubt it. I think the answer is something along the lines of even places where magic was have a magic of their own.
I do like the idea of trying to be summoned to magic world, and I think one of the big questions we still need answers for is if the different magical paths are somewhat exclusive or can be combined with just a loss of needing extra training time.
As for additional research, I don't really have any good ideas for stuff to include. Maybe something about magic languages or elemental planes?

He puts his head in his hands, grimacing. "It sucks. The meal-delivery bots there steal and replace your food when it gets cold or stale, or even a little bit past expired, the cleaners clean up all the messes, even if the mess is something like street art, the repair drones take your tv in for repairs if it gets so much as a scratch on it, so there goes four hours of my life," he throws his arms up.

"I know a bunch of my friends are thinking about moving, because they want to mess with mutagenic compounds, but the autodocs can't tell if something is mutated on purpose or by accident, so they just fix everything."

"They'd have this big ol tree thing turned back into a houseplant by the end of the hour," he says, jabbing a finger at the wooden dome I made to contain the summoning.

"And of course, those stuck-up elites living in The Heap lord it over us, living it up in the garbage! No preset dietary plans, no robots messing up your stuff. I have to hide the stuff I fish out of the void, or it'll get sent straight to the heap with the rest of the trash," he says, frowning as impetuously as a short little raccoon can.
One person's utopia really is another person's hell I suppose. To be honest, I probably wouldn't want to live there either. For all the benefits, it sounds rigidly enforced and highly inflexible. The classic Security vs Freedom conflict.

Yeah, that passage gave me an Orwellian-lite vibes from that "Paradise".

Still, Taylor might really benefit from arranging a reverse-summon once. I wonder how QA would interact with "host's avatar in very far-off dimension" situation.

I'm gonna go with "poorly" since they're really not supposed to do that...But then, QA is at this point very much Not A Normal Shard. We should ask her about it.

I can't believe nobody has commented how amazingly adorable seeker is. Cute 100. You're one hell of an artist and I really hope we get to see more illustrations.

On the birds not being a good idea to fight thing, you forgot about hummingbirds for oraoraora, and woodpeckers. And the fact they can,k you know, FLY, and use that to build up a massive amount of potential energy and then dive at you.

[X][New Theories] We know MANY universes exist now, apparently some of them fictional? And that stuff can be "fished" from the void? Could be a solution to entropy.
[X][New Theories] There's apparently a book about a very different version of you in some universe?
[X][New Theories] We now know that the Hell some types talk about is probably that Hellscape
[X][New Theories] "everywhere in my world is magic. The only things that don't have souls are monsters and really simple lifeforms like plants and small bugs, and sometimes those get souls too," he shrugs.", combined with how magic is replacing our DNA has implications about magic-based life.
[X][New Theories] The infinite repeated attunement of precious metals converging thing.
[X][New Theories] The un-space we managed to create with gallium magic being a thing that can exist.
[X][New Theories] The way dad managed to get magic.
[X][New Theories] The trick lisa was able to do making water language balloons.
[X][New Theories] QA can be summoned, and we now know these very notes are going to her, and more about how our magic interrelates with that link.
[X][New Theories] The nature of the elemental plane of earth.
[X][New Theories] How dust magic works via thaumic collapses, and the nature of how thaumic colapses work
[X][New Theories] What a thaumic collapse does to living things, and how it affected your entire DNA even when covering only your fingers.

I have a theory for why magic is soothing to Accord. We know that magic responds to will, so it might be that having a magic field around him makes his surroundings just a bit more responsive to him. And one of his biggest wishes is probably to not have things throw off his plans, which would blunt the butterfly effect.

I REALLY dont think these count.
Your supposed to theorize something, not state or ask questions about things we already know of.
At least if this is like any of the previous theory actions.

This sounds more like it should be a theory action.

True, this is really the shotgun approach fishing for free research points. I invite everyone to list the ACTUAL theories that can be derived from my not-theories.

Oookay what the heck was this for kindof twist?? I was expecting at most some kind of memetic attack done by a wizard cabal to remove Entities from the board. Or say a cosmology bumping into a purely material planar earth and "fixing it" by PtV.... This was something else.

Honestly a little weird. I mean there is nothing wrong with it, but jarring to read something kindof crackfic-y all of a sudden.

If "Child tries to summon his favorite superhero" is a premise sufficient to strain your SoD, then you REALLY won't like the rest of the setting.

What comes next will be yet stranger, I can promise you that.

The way he described them, Mages, Mediums and Monks blend styles at cost of rarely hitting the peaks of either component. And other than that the main difference is power source.
[X][New Theories] Souls apparently form "when they're supposed to have them". The two beings to spark a soul were dad and Thoth. Thoth is a bird and did it while resisting our magic and being a bird. Dad is a human and a dad and did it while making a very dadly decision. Souls seem to form then either as a result of exerting free will in the presence of high magic concentrations or fulfilling your purpose in magical areas. Dad has been pretty Dadly over the past few months and free will is pretty integral to humanity so the choice thing seems solid.
[X][New Theories] Seeker was able to (attempt to) summon Queenie based on some largely inaccurate stories about us. Assuming infinite universes, it may be possible to summon characters we would consider fictitious. Could have some serious applications.

Even better, assuming the same, Taylor can potentially attempt summoning of different iterations of herself.
When you can go full Zeltrech the question is not "Why?", it's "Why not?".
So as I escalate: Unlimited Skitter Works.

Huh, that sounds like an omake material.

Not necessarily. Seeker got QA because she was the only commonality in his research materials. Unless we void fish up a better worm fic, we're shit out of luck on getting a proper Taylor. Either we grab a pre-trigger Taylor or we hit another QA and have to wait months before that Taylor builds up enough to reply.
