It has been over a century since humanity began to colonise the Sol system and decades since humanity united under the United Nations of Sol.
Now the United Nations of Sol reaches beyond the solar system that humanity originated in and as humanity leaves the Sol System, the authority of the United Nations wanes. They are still strong and influential, but the limitations of FTL travel and communication limit how much authority they can exert over the new colonies.
While many colonies remain loyal to the cradle of humanity, others are less so, chafing at the leash that the United Nations have around their next. Viewing the relationship as unequal and therefore unfair, many of the colonies begin to do what they can to resist and diminish the authority of the United Nations without outright rebelling.
This unrest would ultimately come to head as the oldest of the interstellar colonies grow equal in strength to the nations back in the Sol system. Able to fight the United Nations of Sol on a somewhat equal footing, the League of Independent Systems declared their freedom from the authority of the United Nations of Sol.
Having been the sole authority over humanity for close to two centuries, the United Nations refused to accept the declaration of independence and for the first time since the United Nations had united humanity, war broke out.
The fighting lasted for the better part of a decade and it was a brutal and bloody fight as countless people died on both sides. The Interstellar Independence War ultimately ended in a pyrrhic victory for the League of Independent Systems as while the League had won their independence from the United Nations, they had paid dearly for it.
The League had been bled dry in multiple ways and while many of their members were free, others had failed to resisted being occupied by the United Nations during the war and then annexed during the peace treaty.
Now the League licks its wounds while the United Nations tries to re-establish its authority at home. As two human powers settle down for what is hopefully an era of peace, humanity continues to spread across the galaxy and some colonists travel to the borders of known space, hoping to break free of the United Nations in spirit even if they don't in name via sheer distance.

Alright, I am starting a new quest. This was supposed to be a colony management quest, but the mechanics for politics, economy and other internal social stuff got too fiddly for my liking and since the space warfare mechanics were the most developed thing, I decided to cut the rest out and focus on that aspect of the quest.
The end result is this quest where you shall play as the Commodore of a newly founded colony as it tries to survive and thrive in the frontier of known space. You will need to manage your forces and limited resources as you deal with pirates, exploration, politics and other dangers as your colony grows.
Right now, you are choosing some aspects of your colony. I say some because the rest of it will be pre-determined to fit the type of game that I want to run. In the next update you will be picking who your Commodore is, what they are like and what the current state of your fledging navy is.
Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to. Feel to ask questions for more details and information.
