Clankers and Beasties (A leviathan Quest)

Massed artillery fire in a terrific bombardment to destroy outer defenses and suppress their ability to operate above-ground offers all kinds of devious possibilities. If we can force our way to the entrance to the Beastie Stables, that should be large enough to pour a great deal of oil down into the lower levels of the base, at which point it can be set on fire and the entrance closed off. That should burn up the lower levels and any beasties, supplies, or defenders while the smoke will rise up and suffocate the upper levels unless they open a large ventilation point (assuming they even have any). And a large ventilation point is a structural weakness in the fortress that we can mass artillery against to break open the facade.

If pressed energetically we can hopefully carry out that operation within a couple of weeks.

We might also want to consider spoiling raids and autogyro attacks on Greek mustering points if we have a good idea of when their offensive is timed.

-[X] We didn't haul up a full ten Land Dreadnoughts and another 50 Stormbringers, and however many field guns all this way for nothing. Blast apart the Russian fortifications and any thing they have out in the open from beyond their range, maybe use unarmed scout gyrothopters to mark out targets and Attack Gyros to commence bombing.
-[X] Deploy a group of soldiers with some Drillbobs and explosives to the top of the cliff, along with many patrol bombs to toss down on enemies below.
-[X] Gyros, infantrymen, and scouts will also search for any air vents. If one is found, either more flaming oil will be poured down it or it will simply be sealed shut by whatever means possible.
-[X] With the fortifications down, our Ironsides and Royal Mechs (Royal Mechs go first) can spearhead an assault through the Beastie Stables with our other Mechs and infantry behind. If artillery can fire without bringing down the whole thing, they can support as well. Once the entrance is clear, pour down massive amounts of oil and other flammables, light the stuff, shut the entrance, set firing lines up at every exit, and force to surrender or gun down anything that tries to escape.
--[X] Any openings appear from higher up, Attack Gyros drop a petrol bomb in them and Crow Zepplins strafe with autocannons.
---[X] Politely request surrender whenever possible.
----[X] Try to complete this as quickly as possible so the force can hit the Russians in the rear.

[X] In Greece, thaw out and prepare as many Beasties as possible for the coming battle. Maybe even one of those Harpies, if we have people to crew it. Also bring up as much artillery as possible. Have About Gyros see if they can get any information on the enemy.
-[X] Bring up the navy to provide fire support nearby. Also keep said ships within the protection of our coastal artillery.

i have idea for a tracked vehicle that might work with our large project bonus.


we build an Amphibious Assault Ship that can roll up onto land with tracks to disgorge a it's cargo of power armored Marines with support from a pair of turrets copied from the Typhoon battleships on the front and a Attack Gyro hanger on the back.

Basically attempt to develop a CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT?

No offense, but tracked R&D isn't working for us. Lets ignore such a silly and useless field in favor of more practical means of achieving locomotion.

what can i say tanks and sensibility of design does not exist in a steampunk world that uses mechs.
 
Wouldn't there be the risk of sucking dirt or rocks into the works and gumming it up?
not if you desgining the thing along similar lines to an ATV or motorbike. have it as a set of three wheels on each foot one on the front between the "toes" for steering in cities (locked down for rough terrain to prevent damage) and two on the back on either side of the heel (propulsion). the suspension would pull double duty as a deployment/retraction mechanism.
 
So... Anyone gonna come up with any more suggestions for dealing with the Russian supply base, or is the plan good as it is?

Something like this? I support finding their air vents, collapsing them, but use one to pour flammable liquid down.
 
hmmm. its is possible. depends on how the roll goes. the drillbob could possible run out of gas or it could be to far down for it to be reached.
so its possible depending on the roll.
if the Drillbob goes off when it runs out of gas that will help. having a bunch of bombs go off inside the cliff in the right places can cause the cliff face to collapse right into the sea when the ships start shelling it later.
