Clankers and Beasties (A leviathan Quest)

Geography is a thing. You have only so large an area on which a military unit can functionally operate. This is called "frontage." When you cram too many units into a given area, not all of them can physically engage the enemy and it snarls up logistics. The logistics of fighting in Greece are not great without control of the Aegean, so throwing 700,000 men at a country that never managed to throw together more than 160,000 at any real point in the period is not just overkill, it is actively counterproductive. High firepower, lower manpower forces are better for dealing with Greece given its lack of manpower (around 4 million people total) and reliance on small numbers of powerful beasties.

This is, incidentally, also why the Russian Army can't throw all of its divisions at a single target. The border of Russia with Romania is rather small, and demarcated by the Prut River; and behind the Prut, flows the Siret. Both of them flowing into the Danube Delta which is basically a giant marshland. The border with Austria-Hungary is formed by the province of Galicia, which is large and relatively open terrain right up to the Carpathian Mountains on the border with Hungary. In addition to the border running through Ukraine it is also bounded to the north by the salient formed by Russian Poland. Russia can thus concentrate a significantly larger force against Austria-Hungary than against Bulgaria.

OOC: I want another Land Dreadnought Group ready for when the Russians attack. An offensive on Greece let's us rush them before they finish making more Beasties, and if we hit them from three fronts, they'll be overwhelmed, since they seem to rely on quality over quantity.

While I agree with the need for another Land Dread Group, you're research priorities missed the mark while Cavalier hit dead-on.

We need to figure out what that new Russian Beastie is, since I'm pretty sure it isn't the sniper one.

The tracked Autocannon vehicle let's us deal with anti-air, which we're kinda, lacking in, plus is great for cleaning up lighter Beasties and has the rate of fire to cause problems even for Russian Fighting Bears.

Urteil Dreadnought gives us the longest range heavy firepower, which could absolutely ruin any Russian army, and benefits from the Austrian Big Project bonus.

Here's my compromise research list:

- Research a Tracked Armor Vehicle to replace the Ladegerat in production. The Panzerkampfwagen I should have a large-sized autocannon in a rotating turret, as well as an antipersonnel machinegun and anti-beastie flamethrower. [50RP]
- Research an autogyro launch system that can be employed from airfields rather than just from ships and land dreadnaughts. [50RP]
- Armored Tracked Anti-Aircraft Vehicle. This second Panzer design shall use a group of autocannons, capable of firing on ground and air targets, making it a versatile weapon good against light-medium Beasties, infantry, and aircraft alike. 50 RE Dedicated.
(OOC: Something like this or this, or this, though more primitive and diesel-punky, but capable of spitting out absurd amounts of lead at targets on land or air.) Nope, it'll look like the Hungarian Nimród AA vehicle.

It gives us the ability to deploy Attack Gyros anywhere, our Ladegerat replacement, and our anti-aircraft vehicle.

Deploying autocannons and flak shells represents an enormous increase in anti-aircraft capability; it's just off-screen with the infantry divisions, like all the machineguns and flamethrowers and towed artillery.

And uh, well, the German big guns didn't exactly win them the war. They are useful, but they are also expensive and specialized. More widely available tactical scale Walkers and tanks are needed before another large land dreadnought. As is the deployment of more of our own air power. We haven't seen too much of an aerial threat aside from the giant bees, anyway.

I'm pretty sure we also have autocannons on our ships and Land-dreads. Anyone else seen a WW-II documentary wherein the US fleet pounds the shit out of a beach with their secondary batteries or put up a wall of flack against the Kamikazes?

Regarding the Suez Canal, the Ottoman Empire is already threatening it.

The very existence of a hostile Ottoman Empire is an existential threat to the British dominance of the Suez canal. Hence why the British incited the Arab Revolt in 1916.

The Ottomans have begun to push the Russian away from there coast and have made a foothold for their land forces, ottomans have begun to set up bases to protect their foot hold into Russian land.

So, where have the Ottomans landed? It's a pretty big deal.

In real life, they invaded the Caucasus, attempting to retake the territory they lost in previous wars. They declared Jihad on Russia hoping that the followers of Islam in the Caucasus would rise up in support of the Ottoman army (they didn't).

Despite the protests of the Ottoman Generals who favored defense, the political leadership ordered a winter assault over the mountains into the Caucasus. This went about as well as you would expect, following this disaster the Armenians were singled out as scapegoats and the Armenian Genocide was launched.

So yeah… a Black Sea amphibious assault is a big fucking deal, what with derailing the entire course of the war in the Balkans/Caucasus and averting the Armenian Genocide.

so the ottoman navy is launching an assault across the black sea.
there reasoning this time was that the mountains provide a very large advantage to the beasties and it would be to far from the Austrian front to draw of enemy forces. there current forces have landed in two separate places as not to allow the Russian forces to concentrate their forces. the main assault is currently landed in what would be modern day haharins'kyi, the second is near what would be baydarskiy park.

Diplomacy
-Continue setting up the Combined Strategy Council with Germany, Bulgaria, and the Ottomans.
-Propose a Joint Research Staff whose results will be shared with all participating members, focused on developing technology to win air superiority.
-Share autocannon and flak research with Germany to help them with the British and encourage support for the Joint Research Staff.
-Sound out the Bulgarians and (especially) Ottomans about putting together a joint offensive to knock Greece out of the war.
-Sort through Russian POWs to find minority conscripts (Poles, Finns, Ukrainians, Central Asians) who might be recruited for nationalist organizations favoring independence.

Economy
-Begin a resources recycling and economic mobilization campaign. Use victory over Serbia to develop enthusiasm for the purchase of government war-bonds to be repaid with reparations from the Entente. Encourage subjects to turn in scrap metal, used vegetable oils, and animal tallow for recycling into shells and biodiesel fuel.
-Open a line of credit from the bankers in New York with the value of future reparations from Serbia, Greece, and Russia used as collatoral.
-Convert the Ladegerät factories to production of the Panzerkampfwagen I once the prototype is successfully developed. [150RP]

Military
-Continue fortification of the Russian frontier.
-Send expeditionary force to Bulgaria.
-Maintain occupation force in Serbia at Beastie Farms.
-Continue to send unfrozen Beasties to the Russian front.
-Send new production units and some Walkers from Serbia to the Russian frontier.
-Attack across Macedonia toward Thessaloniki in Greece if agreement with the Ottomans and Bulgarians for offensive is reached.
-Continue cautious sweeps of the Navy in the Adriatic against the Russian fleet, with Crow support.

[X] Infrastructure Actions:
-150 RE shall be dedicated to rebuilding and improving on the infrastructure in our newly conquered land, to make sure we have good relations with the people there and so we get more income.
-At the same time, we shall do a headcount on the exact number of Serbian Beasties we have taken.

[X] Diplomacy Actions:
-Continue organizing the Grand Strategy Council with our allies. See if we can get a count on the units our allies have in which fronts, so we know where our own will do the most good.
--Once the Council is complete, propose a Russia First strategy. Russia, while having a powerful army, has absolutely horrible logistics for a force that requires so much supplies. If Russia surrenders, we can all divert large amounts of forces to other areas without fear of the Russian Steamroller attacking. Furthermore, we know that the Russians cannot be everywhere at once. Attacked from multiple fronts, they will have to break somewhere.
---If any of our allies have the ability to interdict, sabotage, or damage the Trans-Siberian Trailway, it should be done, as it will absolutely ruin the Russians' ability to resupply their forces, especially with the Ottomans blocking the Turkish Straits. Also suggest taking advantage of the various unrest in Russia, especially in Finland, Caucuses, and Central Asia, as described previously, since we have already shown success in Poland.

-Warn the other Clanker Powers about the Russian use of Fighting Bears and their burrowing under fortification lines, see if anyone has a counter.
-In regards to the coming Russian attack on Bulgaria, propose this strategy. While Bulgaria, along with Austria-Hungarian reinforcements hold off the Russians at the front line, a joint German-Austrian attack will flank this force, and cut off their supply lines, trapping the Russians in a cauldron.
-Give the Germans our autocannon and flak shell blueprints to help them deal with the British air fleet.
-Continue trying to increase trade ties with neighbouring nations. Get trade moving with Bulgaria and Switzerland.

-Propose a joint attack from us, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire to knock Greece out of the war swiftly so we can focus on Russia alone. Or at least get permission from Bulgaria to move through their territory to attack Greece.

The organization has been completed for the council and plans, ideas, material that need to go where and grand strategies are thrown around, planning begins and every one reports there state of the war. It is brought up by the Austrian general present that the alliance should priorities Russian in this war. Many of the present powers agree that Russia must go. Ottomans and the Bulgarians are already planning on doing this Germany can't pledge a large amount of forces to this because of the combined French and Canadian attacks. However they are willing to give out the designs of some of their more…experimental weapons to aid in the attack. Plans are made to destroy Russian forces and limit mobility.

Unfortunately there are no forces near enough to attack the trail way and it is too heavily guarded to use and aerial attack and do any major damage to it. But a massage comes threw on the communication line. No one knows were its from and the only thing it says is "we'll try"

The rest of the clanker powers thank you for the warning but sadly tell you that they do not have a way to counter it short of setting of explosive to collapse the tunnels, that would require knowing there location, or taking the tunnel entrances themselves before choking everything inside with exhaust.
The german general tell you to give them a month

While Bulgaria will not be committing military forces to a strike against the Greeks for fear of the Russians taking advantage of it they give you free pass to move through their territory as long as your forces act in a way becoming of them.
The ottoman son the other hand are willing to commit a couple of royal divisions to an assault on Greece.(some of your diplomats say it's just a way to get rid of some of the more annoying royals or in the term the ottoman diplomat used…natural selection)
Either way you now have 2 ottoman royal mech divisions to aid in an attack of Greece.
(Your forces can move though Bulgarian land. Two royal ottoman mech divisions aid the assault against Greece.)

-Sort through Russian POWs to find minority conscripts (Poles, Finns, Ukrainians, Central Asians) who might be recruited for nationalist organizations favoring independence.

It seems that most of the divisions that had been sent to the Serbian front had been recruited from the minor country the Russian had conquer over the years. The commanders were Russian and there was loyal Russian's interspaced through the legion to kill any traitors but after some minor incentive a large amount are willing to help their respective country's… show the Russian's a return of the kindness they have shown.

The sense of smell of the hounds catching any who attempt to sneak past the new fronts. Lionlestels and hounds are kept near the Russian preferred area of raiding, the month is strangely quiet with no raids probing the lines.
The hound's chase some of the Russian beast that raid small squads of infantry but are unable to catch them in large enough numbers and when they don't are slaughtered by the beast leaving only the ripped apart bodies of the hounds and the handler with his throat torn out.

Serbian Occupation Force:
-5 Infantry Divisions

-Keep the Serbians from making an army again, suppress any rebel groups, and generally keep the peace. If possible, help with civilian reconstruction to earn goodwill and weaken any dissent. Any abuse of the Serbians or violations of the rules of war will be severely punished!

The Serbian garrison does a good job of stopping any groups that seem to get the crazy idea of shooting at your men. That is fairly rare though. Most of the time is spent helping the Serbian citizens in any way they can in an attempt to keep themselves from the boredom of sitting in camp all day after the reconstruction is finish. Random jobs and errands. A couple of men are laugh at before being taken out for drinks after being press ganged into helping an old woman for an entire day with the promise of "Just one more thing deary's"
(No rebellions, Serbian option raised.)
(You guys have the nicest soldiers ever, secret roll for their behavior and I get a 99)

As wulfenbach begins his research he finds that the beats seems to be made from the same life threads as"
Panthers
Cheetahs
Spitting cobra
dog
With a hint of bear

A very simple creature yes but the simplicity does not limit it in any way. The beast seems to be capable of running like a cheetah for extended periods of time before tearing apart its prey with claw and fang before running back to the release point. It jaws are fully capable of tearing through any normal equipment and soldier would have making them perfect squad killers. Not only that but the DNA from the panther seems to make this creature a perfect stealth killer hiding among the trees and killing a squad quietly. The spiting cobra DNA is used to allow it to spit a highly corrosive acid at a target. He has discovered most of the secrets of the beast but most beast has the little features that are easy to miss in the big picture, wulfenbach brings up the hounds sense of smell as an example. All this information is given to the men on the Bulgarian front along with the Bulgarians themselves

[X] Many nobles claim that walkers are the only true way to fight. Many nobles claim that using tracks is beneath us, since they are meant for use on farming, and this is war. Many nobles are also posh, brain-deprived fools. Let them whine about how "shameful" and "unmanly" tracked vehicles and weapons are. Logic states that a tracked vehicle is not only simpler to maintain, but also as a more stable firing platform, can be fitted with bigger guns and more armour for less or the same cost! The Panzerkampfwagen I should have a large-sized cannon in a rotating turret, as well as an antipersonnel machinegun and anti-beastie flamethrower. 150 RE

Your engineers look at you like your crazy before saying that sure they'll start making a metal box for you. When you go to see them at the end of the month you find them at the target field and one of the engineers, a noble named Firaeveus Carron, giving a rousing speech of how their enemy's shall be defeated despite their use of 'METAL BAWKSES' to half of the divisions engineers with all of them decked out in paint ball gear, the other half are dressed the same and have taken cover in a set of metal shipping containers with holes cut in them. Later when you ask what the hell they were doing they just looked at you and said "you were serous? We thought you were giving us time of" they apologize and say they will do it next month.
