Arc 1: Chapter 14

    • You knew you weren't going to be satisfied until the mission was complete! You sat up and rolled over onto your stomach, ignoring the searing pain in your leg. Gritting your teeth, you managed to get your good leg underneath yourself and pushed up, getting into a standing position, even if it was basically on one leg. You began hopping across the buildings, using your Flaming Fists of Destruction to create a jet of fire from your hands if you ever felt like you were going to fall over. Eventually you reached the secret entrance to where Kobura was, where you saw quite the sight.

    Kobura was holding Kabuto's glasses and Otoshi was in front of him, bowing his head like a child being scolded, while Kabuto stood to the side, looking smug with his arms crossed. Kobura turned his head to look at you and gave a small grin. Kabuto also looked at you, mildly surprised that you were moving around with your injured leg.

    "You two shits need to respect the Sound," Kobura said as you took your place next to Otoshi. "We're just under Lord Orochimaru's authority around here, you two need to remember that!"

    You glared at Kobura in defiance as he handed over the glasses back to Kabuto. "I ain't gonna punish ya, seeing how it's both your first real offenses against us here, but keep it in mind."

    "Heh, Kobura, you must be going soft. Before you would have painted the walls red. Oh well." Kabuto said, taking his glasses and putting them on. Kobura's eyes narrowed at the comment and as soon as Kabuto turned around, he snapped his fingers. Kabuto turned his ahead around to see what the sound was, but as soon as he did, something happened.

    For you, it seemed to go in slow motion. Kabuto's glasses began to glow brightly and you could see the skin around his eyes and temples rapidly turning red and starting to blister. The white of his eyes instantly went bloodshot as he fell to the ground, clutching his glasses. However, the brightness even began to burn through Kabuto's gloves and blister his hand just as it did his face!

    Your reaction was the loudest and most obvious. You began howling with uncontrollable laughter, pointing at Kabuto. Tears were coming from your eyes and it was difficult to breathe, but god damn it was the funniest fucking thing you've ever seen. Otoshi obviously couldn't see the results, but apparently hearing the agony Kabuto went through, his reaction was grim and a frown was fixed on his face. Kobura had turned away and walked back to his quarters, but you swore you could hear a chuckle coming from him.

    "AAAAAUUUGGGHHH!!!" Kabuto screamed. "MY GLASSES! MY GLASSES ARE RED HOT! KURAMA YOU RAT!"

    Kabuto got to his feet, one hand burning as he held his glasses and his other hand covering his injured eyes as he stumbled away before he left your sight. After you managed to calm down, you looked at Otoshi and said, "Holy shit that was amazing, wasn't it?"

    "Not really...Um. I thought pranks were supposed to be fun. This was just cruel..." Otoshi muttered.

    "It was your idea to get Kobura's power on this!" you barked back, feeling annoyed that Otoshi was souring a rare good mood.

    "I thought he knew a prank meant like, making his eyes watery and itchy! Not scar him!" Otoshi countered.

    "Guess my idea of pranks are more severe than what you'd think." you said bluntly. Otoshi didn't seem to have a response for this as he only shook his head and left. You shrugged, maybe next time he'll leave you alone.

    Perhaps due to you having a very long and fulfilling day, you were completely wiped out. You hobbled over to your apartment, ignoring a sleeping Azasuke on the couch, and flopped down onto your bed.

    You awoke the following day. Your injured leg seemed to have healed a bit as you were able to put weight on it, but you were still walking with a notable limp. But you'd live.

    What will you do today?

    [] Go back to training. You need to prepare for the invasion of the Leaf!

    [] Find Dosu. He hasn't shown himself since you two got back to the Sound...

    [] Find Azasuke. You want to find out how to get more out of your cursed seal.

    • You hated owing someone a favor, so you decided to find Kobura quickly. Luckily, it didn't take long, as soon as you opened the door to your apartment, Kobura was standing just outside. He eyed you for a moment before walking in and taking a look at the apartment you and Azasuke shared.

    "What a shithole," Kobura sneered. Azasuke, who was asleep on the couch, quickly jolted upwards and gave a lazy smile, but you could sense his anxiousness.

    "Kobura, what are you doing here?" Azasuke asked, sounding oddly professional.

    "Came to talk to the fox. Get the fuck outta here, know what I mean?" Kobura gruffly said, jabbing a thumb at the doorway. Azasuke nodded and gave you a worried look before leaving, closing the door.

    "Heh, I wish I could make that annoyance do that..." you said, impressed someone was able to get under Azasuke's usually unflappable persona.

    "Become one of the Stars and maybe you'll get some respect." Kobura bluntly said, walking over and sitting on the couch. "Now, I helped you with your little joke, give me the goods."

    "Alright. While on my last mission, I went to the Yugakure. There, I sensed the presence of a demon and investigated it and who I found was some demon from the Wartorn Era." you explained. "His name is Jashin."

    "I'm not too good on history, but that means that demon is even older and stronger than you, right?" Kobura asked.

    "He may be older, but he's a pathetic whelp who formed a cult to gather his power for him. If I was at my full power, I could crush him instantly!" you declared. "But...as I am not at my full power, I decided to take his help. He gains power from his followers who ingest a piece of him and shed blood in his name. In kind, he rewards those who survive ingesting him with immortality."

    To prove your point, you took your trusty dagger out and stabbed it through your heart. You hissed in pain as you ripped it out, spraying blood across the room, but otherwise you were fine. Kobura's eyes were wide, and his smile even wider.

    "Alright, sounds good! Now, how do I go about finding Jashin? Can't imagine he just has a stall open in the Hot Springs, know what I mean?" Kobura asked.

    "Go to the police building and ask for Rikuto. He's the chief of the police there. Tell him that I sent you and you're interested in joining. That should be good enough, I'd think." you said.

    "Good, good. Heh. Thanks, fox. I guess I'll ask the boss if I can go to the Hot Springs for some R&R before the invasion. If not...then I'll go afterward." Kobura said, standing up. "Course, if this shit is some hoax somehow, I'll twist your head off your shoulders, know what I mean?"

    "I'd like you to try." you coldly said, fearlessly glaring at Kobura. The Uzumaki smirked and left the apartment, leaving you free for the rest of the day. However, it wasn't more than a few moments afterward that a Sound ninja appeared in front of you, delivering you a scroll. You quickly opened it and saw the message.

    "In a month's time, the Chunin Exams will begin. You will be at my side when the invasion starts. After it starts, you may cause chaos as you wish. However, if you are caught or in danger, do not expect any help." the letter said. It was signed by Orochimaru.

    With only a month left, you decided to focus the rest of your time on training. You had to make sure you were in top shape for the invasion!

    What will you focus on training in this final month? (You can choose up to four, one for each week. You can divide the weeks however you want, so if you want to do three weeks ninjutsu then a week taijutsu, you can.)

    • The first two weeks of your training went...okay, if you had to say something positive of it. You got used to using your Flaming Feet of Swiftness for general combat and movement purposes, but there wasn't any real improvement otherwise, which frustrated you. Your strength and stamina training went much of the same way. Despite spending an entire week working on your physical health, it didn't seem to give you any noticeable increases. You were worried if your skills were plateauing...or maybe you should actually start finding people to train with.

    At the start of the third week, you went up to Azasuke who was sleeping on kitchen floor. You swiftly kicked him in the sides, making him wheeze in pain and roll onto his back, gritting his teeth. "Well, good morning to you too, sunshine."

    "I want to learn more about my Cursed Seal. I saw how yours went beyond a mere tattoo and transformed you into something demonic. Teach me how." you demanded.

    "Ugh..." Azasuke groaned, getting to his feet and holding his side. "Well, there's two ways. One, is for the seal to naturally spread through your body. It'll take time, like, I dunno, mine did it in about five months, but eventually your body will acclimate and you can control the seal as you wish."

    "I don't have the time for that. What's the second way?"

    "Lord Orochimaru invented a pill that spreads the acclimation process greatly. A few hours at most. However, a human body usually can't handle all the energy the seal outputs and a certain procedure is needed to mitigate the effects. So-"

    "Give me the pill." you demanded.

    "You sure?" Azasuke asked with a raised eyebrow. "Alright. I guess I'll need to find the Sound Four and-"

    "No need. You know what I am, I'm used to demonic energy. I can survive this." you confidently said. Admittedly, if you didn't have Jashin's blessing you'd be more cautious, but you needed more power now! Azasuke pursed his lips and rubbed his chin thoughtfully before shrugging and agreeing with you.

    "Follow me then, I guess." Azasuke said, walking out of the apartment. You did as you were told and eventually you were lead to the pharmacy. Azasuke quickly managed to get a single small pill, but then led you down into a basement area. The underground floor looked more like a prison than a pharmacy and you brought this up to Azasuke.

    "This is where they test the effects of certain drugs. The Mind Awakening Pill has only been used a few times, so this is for some extra safety in case you lose control." Azasuke explained.

    "...Very well."

    Eventually Azasuke led you to a large iron door. He handed you the pill and after making a handseal, opened the door. You went in to find a large room made of gray stone. There wasn't anything else, but you could see small windows on the walls, clearly to let someone watch what would happen. You looked at the tiny brown pill as you walked to the center of the room.

    Suddenly, a seed of doubt hit you. You knew you had Jashin's Blessing to protect you, but...would it protect against a huge surge of dark energy like this? Was the immortality only worth using on physical injuries? You grit your teeth as you...

    [] Ate the pill. You need more power, and now!

    [] Refused to eat the pill. It might be paranoia, but you can't risk your life especially right before invading the Leaf.

    [] Demanded Azasuke to get others to go through the procedure. At least this way you'll reduce the risks as much as possible.

    POWWWWER! UNLIMITED POWWWWER!

    I dont think we should give the pill to the others, we have unique circumstance that all but ensure we will be fine with the procedure but they remain just squishy humans and are thus likely to die.
