Catching Victory (A Pokemon Quest)

King of the Sea
"I'll be there in a minute!" Mom yells back. You see the Croconaw wince as he holds his side, trying to slow the bleeding.
"Hold on" You say as you reach into your backpack. You take out the potion and start applying it to the Croconaw. Normally, it wouldn't do much but careful application as opposed to just spraying too much of the healing liquid at once makes the potion more effective than it normally would be. In no time, the wounds close.

"Croc Croc" The Croconaw says enthusiastically, clearly thankful for the assistance.

"Thanks a lot. Bard, right?" The trainer asks. You nod.

"You raised a good kid Aria" The trainer says with a smile before turning back to you. "Name's Johan by the way. If you need anything, let me know."

"Now Nails, you ready to teach those bastards a lesson?" The trainer turns back to his Croconaw, an evil grin on his face.

"Onaw" The Croconaw says enthusiastically as the two go back outside.

"Bard." She says. "I love you. Please be safe. For me"
"I will." You say. "I love you mom. Please stay safe too"

Reaching for them, you pick...

You pick up the pokeball containing the Horsea. You've always liked water types. You release the Horsea from it's pokeball.

"Hey there. My name is Bard. I'd like to be your trainer if you'll have me"

The Horsea balances on it's tail, lacking any feet to stand on. It regards you for a second before smiling. At least you think it's a smile. With the shape of his mouth, you can't really tell. Now, you need to think of a nickname. Just calling your first Pokemon Horsea... it just doesn't feel right.

You consider a few nicknames. Oceania, Lotan, Typhoon. Eventually, you decide on Neptune. King of the Sea. Also, it's better than Aqua or Hydro.

"Do you mind if I call you Neptune?"

"Sea. Horsea!" Neptune says. From the looks of it, he likes the nickname.

Partner chosen, you start to head out of the cave into Zanzivar Town. Thankfully, the cave heads straight there and it's brightly lit so getting there is easy. Still, there are more than a few people here. Most don't seem too injured, fortunately. They're just catching their breath before heading into Zanzivar. You hear one person on their pokegear, trying to guide the person on the other end to the Escape Route. You see one girl using a potion on her Mudkip, which you note is oddly colored. A family is huddled together, some happy about making it out alive, and some mourning the loss of their home, wondering what they are going to do. Near the ladder, you see a man with a bag full of medical supplies treating the people injured in the attack.

You could talk to some of these people, see if they are alright or if they need anything. Though part of you doubts that you could help them at this point. You could just go straight to Zanzivar.

Pokemon Acquired: Horsea.

Moving On
"I-is it bad doc?"

"It could've been worse." The doctor says as he stitches up the man's arm. You note the large bag full of medical supplies nearby. Painkillers, antiseptics, bandages, disinfectants, and a much more. As you approach, the doctor nods to you and starts talking, though primarily focused on his current patient.

"Can't believe this happened." He says "Are you alright? If not then I'll be happy to help when I'm done here"

You nod, reassuring the doctor that you are alright. Eventually, you two start talking, though he always focuses on whoever he's treating more than the conversation. You learn that his name is Doctor Fields. Apparently, he knew Professor Willow, the region's top Pokemon Professor growing up. Willow studied pokemon while the doctor studied medicine. You continue to make small talk, sometimes the patients, the ones not in too much pain, join in while Fields treats them.

(Field Medic) You start talking about your own interest in medicine, as well as your interest in Pokemon, and how you were going to start your journey in a few weeks.

"You know, if you were going on a Pokemon Journey, you may want to see the Professor. If only to tell him that you already have a pokemon" He suggests. You remember Mom telling you that Professor Willow worked in Zanzivar Town. Convenient for you since that's where the Escape Route leads anyway. You continue to talk for a few more minutes before you say that it's time to go.

"It's been nice talking to you Bard" the doctor says with a smile. "I wish I could spare some supplies but the people here need medicine." You nod, wishing him luck.

You start talking to other people in the cave. Most of the ones still in the mood to talk don't say much but some that you knew are willing to have a short chat.

Eventually, you have talked to most of the people there. Occasionally, someone new trakkles in from the ladder but a lot of people have already moved on. You decide to do the same.

As you start walking, you think about whether or not to keep Neptune, or any of your pokemon really, outside of their pokeballs.

[] Keep your pokemon in their balls until you need them.

[] Keep your lead pokemon outside of their pokeball.

[] Keep all of your pokemon outside of their pokeballs unless they are too large for a building/going into the PC.

Your decision made, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Literally. As you get closer, it gets brighter until finally, you've made it.

The air is clean and more importantly, you're safe. It is almost heaven after all you've been through. You feel like you could just lay down and just go to sleep. And since you're officially a registered trainer, you can spend the night at the Pokemon Center for free.

Still, Team Olympus is still out there. Your mom told you to be safe but you can't just stand around while they are out there. You need to prepare. You need to train. You need to...

take a deep breath. You don't even know where they are right now outside of Nyasa. And if your mom doesn't take care of them, which you think she will, the police, the army or someone will. You need to rest and come up with a plan if you're going to take revenge or stop them in whatever they're planning. Looking at the town in front of you, you consider what you're going to do next.

Players are encouraged to choose more than one action. Though each action will take time. If it's too late, you need to either get to a Pokemon Center or another place you can sleep or you will pass out. And depending where that is, that could be bad.

Does this look good? It's hard to judge time when I want to go south and train, because I don't know how far south we would have to go to run into wild Pokemon to battle.

...I'm totally playing up the "sociable" angle. Might get some interesting bits of info or shinies, but also gives Bard some time to chat after the traumatic events that just happened.

@MData
1. Hmm, what does our character know about the MagnamiteLite?
2. Are we planning out the whole day? I'm not sure how the sleep vote is supposed to work.
3. How will the winning actions be decided? Will you just be tallying up individual actions and seeing what has more support?

That it's a bludgeon that doubles as a flashlight. Just like the real life maglites.

2. Are we planning out the whole day? I'm not sure how the sleep vote is supposed to work.

As for sleep, if you choose to go to sleep early, you (and your pokemon) will be better rested the next day, making you (and them) more effective. Conversely, if you stay up late to do more actions, you may not be as effective the next day.

I'm going to have to refine it going forward.

Pretty much.

I'm going to have to refine this and the sleep system going forward. Maybe having one action at a time. But for now, I've made the poll. I'll stick with it this time.

Hmm, ok. I'll just leave sleep out of my post for now then.

Because it would take me around three years to type up all of those, along with the choices that each of the choices would branch off to, would anyone mind if I just types up the "Go to Professor Willow" option and put the rest to a vote after that?

Meeting Professor Willow
I'm assuming that the three likes means yes.
-------------------------------

"Horsea! Sea!" Neptune cries when he hops out of the cave. It looks like he's about as excited to see the sun too. Considering how long he must have been in that case underground...

You smile, not regretting your choice to let your pokemon travel out of their pokeballs. You can tell that Horsea appreciates it too.

You call Horsea over to you. He almost looks like he's about to run off. You walk to the Professor's Lab, which is thankfully not too far away.

The building itself is a yellow, modestly sized building. There are a pair of windows, but they're frosted. You can barely make out what's on the other side.

When you enter, the front of the room is lined with neatly with bookshelves. Their titles ranging from the complex to you not even being able to pronounce half of the words. You also see a lot of equipment near the back of the room, though what they are meant for escapes you. There's also a door, probably leading to more research labs. Near the back-right corner of the room is a table with three pokeballs, likely the ones you would have chosen.

[] (Pragmatic) Pretend that you don't have a pokemon so you can get a second one.
[X] Speak to the Professor.

"So you're sure you haven't seen either of them Professor Juniper?" You hear the man himself ask into his phone. He's a slightly overweight man with black hair that had a few viable strands of grey in it. Considering that he only looks to be in his 50's it's not too surprising. The bags under his eyes also suggest more than one recent all-nighter. At first, he doesn't even notice you, his back to the front entrance.

"Fair enough. Good luck. And please give my best to your father." He hangs up, muttering something you can't make out. You clear your throat before he notices you.

"Ah Bard." The Professor says. You see him brighten up almost instantly. You never talked to him much but he was fairly good friends with mom. "It's good to see you've made it. After I heard what happened..." He looks down for a moment before perking back up. "So, is Aria with you?"

You sadly explain that mom stayed behind.

"Well if anyone can make it, it's her." He says trying to reassure, though you can tell that he's trying to reassure himself as well. "If I hear anything from her, I'll be sure to let you know." He promises.

"You know, normally, I'd give you a pokemon but it looks like you've already found one." Professor Willow says. He leans down to look at Neptune, who smiles back. "Still, it doesn't look like you have any other pokeballs. Since you would have started your soon journey anyway..." He dogs into a nearby box and hands you five empty pokeballs. After thanking him, you ask what he was talking on the phone about.

"I was calling my colleagues in other regions. Some of them know powerful trainers and after what happened in Nyasa..." He trails off "Team Olympus has gone too far. Unfortunately, no one seems to be able to find these trainers. I was about to contact Professor Elm but..." he looks back at a clock, from what you can see, it's about 11 o clock, give or take a few minutes.

"Do you think you could do be a favor? One of the students at the Trainer's School is starting an internship with me. Do you think you could fetch him for me? I'd go myself but-"

Before he can get much further, his phone rings. Seemingly out of reflex, he picks it up. "Yes, Professor Birch?... Thank you for calling me back." He looks at you, waiting for an answer.

[] Sure thing. (Meet your Rival)
[] Sorry, but no. (Don't)

Ooh, I like the idea that we could have gotten a second 'mon if we had gone with Pragmatic. It's nice when chargen actually has little effects later on.

[X] Sure thing. (Meet your Rival)

The Prof is nicely asking, so might as well acquiesce. I'm not sure if we should have a Swag-obsessed rival, but Bard doesn't know about that yet. :p

[X] Sure thing. (Meet your Rival)

Just need to make sure we hit the conversation switch that doesn't have him screaming mindlessly about swag.

Thr Rival
[X] Sure thing.

It's around 11:30 when you get to the Trainer's School. The school is a large wooden building with a single entrance. You can see windows leading to classrooms but you don't pay much attention to them. You also note an area for trainers to battle to the side. Near the entrance, you see two boys talking to each other. You walk up to them, asking if either one of them is the intern.

One of the boys starts beaming. "Yeah, that's me!" He says excitedly before turning to his friend. "I told you I got the internship!"

He's slightly taller than you, with long, bright red hair. He's wearing a black hoodie that's half way zipped up with a grey shirt underneath, along with brown cargo pants.

"Well, when you're right, you're right Jake" The other boy concedes.

"I can't believe it. The Professor actually wants me to help him." Jake says, ignoring his friend. "I heard that he trained the legendary champion, Aria!"

"Actually, she mostly trained herself" You correct. "The Professor just gave her her her starter pokemon. Don't know how that rumor got started..."

The smile that was on his face fades immediately. "Yeah? And how would you know" Jake asks glares at you. You explain that you are Aria's son.

The boy's face lights up when you say it. "Wait, your Bard? I thought you looked familiar! Your mom's my hero! I can't b..."

At this point, your eyes glaze over. You've heard this speech about how great your mom is and how fortunate you are to be your mother's son at least twenty seven times this month. After the first six, they all start to sound the same and your mind retreats into itself to avoid having to listen to it again. You start daydreaming, mostly about fudge. You stay like that for a few more minutes. At least you think it's minutes. You can't really tell. At least until Jake says something that catches your attention.

[] Wait, did he just say something about swag?
[] Well, it looks like he's finally going to the Professor's Lab.

[X] Well, it looks like he's finally going to the Professor's Lab.

We didn't hear anything about swag. Nada.

(@MData By the way, would it be helpful to you to point out typos, or would that be overly pedantic?)
