But the existence of the "you" that you believe in is so tenuous - Shin Megami Tensei/Persona General

Here's the new commercial featuring Makoto.

Also, here's a link that details more gameplay elements and gives a pretty detailed summary of the first hour and a half of the game, so watch out for spoilers.

English translation from what appears to be a recent stream of P5, showing the Velvet room in gameplay.

Definitely a striking change to the attendants in this one.

In before double-posting over a week later.

Edit: takedowns by atlus are underway, listen while you can still find them
Double Edit: In addition, the PS4 version of the game blocks any attempt to capture footage past the opening sequence, Atlus has stated they intend to issue takedowns on any spoilers or videos of the game, and unverified sources are claiming the game might be region-locked

You think this might just be some particularly aggressive spoiler guarding, and they'll chill out after a while? It should be known that going to all this trouble isn't really going to yield any dividends long term.

SMT IV Apocalypse has hit the West!

And the Altus staff are just as enthused about the game as we are!

In seriousness, it's here, and it plays pretty well so far.

Yes, and the only store in my area that got a copy in was the local Gamestop, which got a copy (that was gone by 4 pm on Tuesday) and doesn't expect more until the middle of next month.

Given that the only other place in town that would carry it in store is Hastings... Yeah, no luck there. Good thing Target says it will get to me by Monday, huh?

(And if you're asking why I don't just go for the digital version... I want the physical extras, and at $50 I want my money's worth.)
Hasn't hit Europe though. Atlus' hateboner for us continues unabated.
My understanding is that Atlus/Sega isn't actually handling publishing duties in the EU, instead they're farming it out to Deep Silver.

Good god Krishna is just kicking my ass. Those Ragas are no joke. My fall back plan is just to grind until I can get Salvation on at least Nanashi and one other. No way to full party cure my team of ailments quickly otherwise

Lucky you, I'm currently getting my ass kicked by Quetzalcoatl. I'm thinking there are two reasons for this. First, I need more demons; I can hold 16 and have 7(!), so I need to grind out some macca/items and do some serious scouting and compendium fusing. Second, I may have rushed through some sections I should have done level grinding on (and I can't buy a eShop card to get the grinding DLCs I don't have until next Tuesday).

On a somewhat different topic, is it just me, or are random horde encounters much more difficult than in 4?

Finally, am I correct in assuming that I'm not getting the Black Card anytime soon? Of course, on that note, do they even make DEMONICA suits in Nanashi's size?

If you are struggling with the Hordes, bring Toki. Every round of the Hordes counts as a battle start, and she has a chance of instant killing them all in one swing. I once did a horde battle where she smashed five rounds of them in a row.

K, respecced my party to Mudoon Krishna to death, set Hallelujah as my partner, and got the assist bar to max before enterring the boss room

Krishna down(for now) in three turns with no damage taken to my team. Woot.

Now fighting my way out of Tsukiji Kongaji
Yeah, guess the issue with that tactic for me.
A tactic I use, same thing as last game

Almighty Spam.

Oh, and if you can hit a weakness with a multi-target spell, even better.

And if you have a Smirk on someone with Hama?Mudo spells(assuming Horde isn't a boss or otherwise immune to those two), just use those

Well, one of the biggest problems with hordes for me was the fact that MP levels were an issue, especially if things went on for 3 or more waves. Instakills helped, but those are dependent on chance, even when they don't require Smirking.

Of course, that was back around the point when I fought Shesha in Shinjuku, and only had MP Recovery 1 at best. Now that I have Party MP Recovery, "low MP" translates to "run around and avoid battles for a minute". I've found that I'm far more willing to spam my high damage but high cost spells when MP is basically an non-issue.

Still need to get that Level Full Heal app, however. I'm also wishing that someone would make a list of all the Apps, their effects, point cost, and unlock conditions, like there is for 4.

Just entered the 7/8 Moon Phase and got a new challenge quest after going through a ton of cutscenes and HELL YES the Black Card is a Challenge Quest reward instead of a ludicrously expensive pick up.

I was afraid of this. Ah well, at least it means no grinding on the Moneymaker DLC just to get the card (the gear I fully expect to require said grinding however). Can you at least answer if we can buy a Demonica Suit in one of the exclusive shops? Or any of the really good weapons from 4's neutral endgame?

Just got the Black Card and noticed an item.

Armor Boost Kit. Special pack that powers up piece of armor. I'm guessing this is for people who want to fashion it up and not lose out on stats.

Cost: 1,000,000 Macca

Gonna go check the weapons and armor shop now

EDIT: The Plasma Knife and PLasma Gun are in here. They aren't the strongest overall weapons though

And yup, Demonicas. Also, Superior Samurai Suit. Basically the normal suit, only with endgame stats and resist to all elements except the physical ones. Nice.

And yup, gonna need the grind DLC to buy these in any reasonable amount of time.

What do you mean by "strongest overall"? I tend to consider predictable weapons better than weapons with high damage but low hit rates, or weapons that do multiple attacks to random targets.
They're normal hit rate, 1 hit weapons, but they aren't the strongest of that type

Wooo, got through the Cosmic Egg! Man, beating Krishna was so satisfying!

Oh, Stephen! We're off to defeat YHVH as the true final boss? Alright, sounds interesting! Finally get a use for those nine pillars from the Egg to make the Monolith from 2001 as the dungeon entrance!

Alright, let's see what the last dungeon...looks...like...

This is another Inside the Sun level, isn't it?

I mean, having Flynn as a guest party member's cool and all, but...THIS big? No recruitable demons?

Yeeesh. Quite the intimidating last level we've got here, and not all for the right reasons.

I seemed to have stop being challenged by bosses since beating Krishna is Tsukiji Koganji. Merkabah, Lucifer, Odin, Innana, Mitra. All down a lot faster than I expected. Taking a bit of a break to grind MAG incense from Indian Hordes. So happy I found them. Gonna dump the rest of my level up stats into AGI now and just grind these incenses. This magic build is really great.

Sad about the Salvation and Antichton nerfs

Also, Hallelujah is an amazing partner. Like really, really great.

Decided to use Gaston as a partner for Merkabah, and Hallelujah for Lucifer. Worked out pretty well, despite Gaston stealing all but one of my press turns that one time. Beat both first try. And the rest so far too.

Quetzalcoatl, round 2 results: Damn it, why does he have Zandyne and Maragidyne? Also, why did I have to pick Gaston for my partner?

Pulled out of YHVH's Universe after the Horde Boss and did a run of Twisted Tokyo(the bonus dungeon), got up to Red Rider before taking a break. Bought the Cleopatra DLC. That was a fairly difficult fight. Even without buffs/debuffs she could oneshot my lower health demons.

Decided to check out the release schedule for the rest of the DLC and yay

just two more days.

Got some loot from the Twisted Tokyo.

Armor Upgrade Packs. If applied to helmet gives +15 HP, +3 MAG and +3 LCK, if Applied to Chest gives +30 HP, if Applied to Legs gives +15 HP and +6 AGI. Also purchasable in the Ginza VIP Shop for 1 Million Macca a piece

And Dark Battle Plans, increases a demon's Dark Affinity by +1. Oh, and Twisted Tokyo is apparently where I can get those gems for that one NPC

I took a shot at that DLC before.

I got up to saving Demi-Fiend before I got my shit kicked in. That quest is balls hard, and judging from reports the final boss is the hardest thing in the game by far, with the possible exception of the higher level Fiends in Twisted Tokyo loops (they go all the way up to level 900 jesus christ)

And I do hope that everyone does the smart thing and listens to Dagda. The power of friendship may feel nice, but its certainly not going to stop you getting Aleph'd as soon as you let your guard down.
