Brave New Frontier

How is most electrical power generated? Renewables? Hydro? Fission/Fusion? Also, what is the status of recycling materials or mining landfills for minerals?

Can we build up our orbital manufacturing/infrastructure?

Orbital rings would be a cool project. Would help with launch infrastructure, given that we could build space elevators a few hundred miles long, as opposed to a proper space elevator, which has to be built to the geosynchronous point (several thousand miles)
Depending on the orbits, we can control access to space with cheaper elevator rides.

-[X] Develop Air Pollution Control and Cleanup Technologies - 100 Profit Factor
-[X] Develop Alternative Food Sources such as in-vitro meat, insect farming, hydro and aeroponics - 75 Profit

@Traveller76 May I suggest using 'Air Pollution Management Technologies' instead? Because that way it opens up the possibilities to allow all sorts of technologies that mean the people survive fine... But need to constantly buy new filters or other replaceable or consumable parts to stay fine because the pollution is still there. In simpler terms, peak Megacorp. Air Pollution Control and Cleanup Technologies suggests it's aiming for the ability to prevent the air pollution occurring and removing what already exists. Which means you can only charge once, even if it's a lot.

[X] Baby plan v2
-[X] Inflate Hotspots - 75 Profit Factor
-[X] Increase control of media distribution - 75 Profit Factor
-[X] Lobby for favorable laws - 100 Profit Factor
-[X] Expand/Take over Drug markets - 100 Profit Factor

modified Infiltrate/Subvert Unions & Govt's to Lobbying, this should make it easier to grab monopolies while limiting the power of Unions to obstruct us.

If we can get profitable self-supporting orbital colonies and industry running,

I think we need to hold off on the space stuff a bit, considering how controlled space was right??? Need to focus on getting more control on the ground in order to mess with space. I may be misremembering.

The second research is actually methods of efficiently and effectively dealing with massive air pollution. Because that's the big concern which is going to cripple the two Megacorp regions of Asia and North America soon. Because it'll start killing off our consumers and workers. It can also be very profitable because we're unlikely to go for the true long term fixes as a corporation, compared to the ones that fix the problem now but need constant (profitable) replacement or use to keep the air clean.

GOOD FUDGIN' POINT. This! We need to deal with air. It'll protect our profits, increase them, as well as increase our control on the world. A world that can't live without us is a world where governments are our puppets. We DO have to keep the governments from just taking what we're selling the public, as they'll see that as a necessary means to live. This will probably require mercs.
We can combine people needing to buy air filters etc with helping them get jobs that help our goals, aka everyone works for us.

We can use the green factor as a good public image as well as a governmental lobby point or whatever

-[X] Lobby for favorable laws - 100 Profit Factor
Point. We can lax space laws through normal means, build up massive profit there, then use that to take over. Maybe we don't need earth if we got those space colonies.

Anyway guys we're gonna discuss the fuck out of all this before any votes are done. Not like normal quests.

We cannot prevent all air pollution since it can involve everything from airborne dust and particles to industrial emissions. We are reducing and eliminating the biggest offenders to gain good public relations and to create a market for our technologies and products. If countries and people believe that we clean up their messes then they will keep using our services. Plus developing the technologies on Earth will help us with space development.

Yeah, just feel that putting something out there will get people motivated. Since if they feel that they don't like the plan they have to put something out to compete with it or else it'll win by default basically. Also, one thing I wonder about, what happens when we take over? Like when we control the economy, we control the gov't, there is no competition (At least until we discover aliens), do we keep the Profit Factor system or do we switch to a Resource based system?

Profit factor, as you all don't really directly develop anything per say, its all corporate negotiations and subsidiaries paid to do research. and the like.

How about this for a plan?

[ ] Plan: Hydrogen
-[ ] 100 PF - Increase control of power generation and distribution companies. Push global industries to adopt Hydrogen Fuel Cells, prioritising Asia.
-[ ] 75 PF - Fund Methane Pyrolysis R&D in Europe; produces "Turquoise" Hydrogen.
-[ ] 100 PF - Construct Hydrogen Plants; not in Asia or Africa, "Grey/Blue", "Turquoise" if R&D successful.
-[ ] 75 PF - Develop Alternative Food Sources such as in-vitro meat, insect farming, hydro and aeroponics.

By removing a significant amount of air-pollution from Asia, the suffocating smog will lessen.
Pushing global industry to adopt Hydrogen Fuel Cells, and producing most Hydrogen outside Asia, will do that.

We get to profit from "saving the climate", with a "greener" and highly profitable hydrogen industry.
By publicly doing "good", we have far less need for good PR. (aka control of media)
It may lessen terrorism as well, and general dissent against corporate rule.

Well, it looks okay, but I don't think we should start long-term construction efforts Turn 1, it takes years to construct large powerplants and I don't think we'll be lucky enough to quickly to get that methane quickly. Actually, @Dapperlad1 how long are turns? Yearly? Monthly? Because depending on turn length that changes how attractive multi-year projects are in the early game.

In that case, most of my worries are removed, but there is still the debuff from construction in warzones. To me, It looks like Europe will be our main cash-grab, with NA if they/we can get control of the terrorists situation while SA being as anti-corporate as they are makes me want to leave them alone until they collapse, or perhaps create a conflict so that they can join Africa and Asia as our conflict zones for PMC cash. Orbital Industry is a unknown, since its a near completely untapped market without much we can do for cash other than Tourism and Mining, with Mining also being a specialty of Asia and Tourism not being that economical iirc. Thoughts on my read of the situation?

Wasn't saying we needed to go for it immediately. And I think you'll find that as orbital development increases, control is harder. After all if we say there's one 'police' spaceship for every hundred civilian spaceships, that's not going to be anywhere near enough. Even if space stations are locked down and thus it's effective one police spaceship for every fifty spaceships because those are the only ones that travel far enough to leave the space station control zones that still will not be anywhere near enough the moment we expand beyond near-Earth orbit. And it'll be much worse by the time we start mining the actual asteroid belt.

But to get to that stage, first we need to build up the orbital industry and infrastructure so as little as possible needs to be brought up from the surface as that's very expensive. Or make a breakthrough but that's unlikely to truly alter things for a while.

So I decided to make my own plan. >.<

[X] Plan: Firebird
-[X] 100 PF - Develop Orbital Launch and Construction Capabilities. Earth's resources are starting to become very limited even taking into account near-future technological advancements. However there are a lot of resources in Near-Earth Orbit and the Moon. Let alone elsewhere in the solar system. Let's ensure that we will have the ability to exploit those resources when we decide they're needed. And it ensures that we're one step closer to ensuring that the other powers remaining on Earth no longer have the potential to take us down with them.
-[X] 100 PF - Develop Air Quality Management Technologies. The air pollution levels in North America and Asia are reaching levels that will start decreasing profitability. Fix it, preferably in a way that yields profits. Keep an eye out for anything useful in closed environment habitation. The ocean floor and orbit are both sources of new resources that would benefit from that.
-[X] 75 PF - Develop Alternative Food Sources such as in-vitro meat, insect farming, hydro and aeroponics. South America's stranglehold on the global food supply both secures them against corporate influence and means any disruption has the potential to collapse the global economy. Let's see what we can do to remove that grip. This also has great potential for improving our adverse environment habitation capabilities, which will be useful in accessing new resource sources.
-[X] 75 PF - Increase control of power generation and distribution companies. Whether through securing control of existing power infrastructure or developing new sites. Look into novel solutions, but focus on ensuring our ability to manipulate who gets power when, for how much. Perhaps something might turn up that's useful for our other current efforts whilst we're at it.

Okay, so this plan is basically about starting the steady progress needed to develop the system-wide infrastructure and industry that'll be extremely profitable and powerful. Whilst also removing potential non-military hazards that currently exist to our continued existence in a way that should lead to profits to pay for that development. They also could have some synergies with developing orbital capabilities to reduce how long and expensive that is.

Mostly agree with that.

Europe, NA (barring terrorist interference), and Asia seem to me the most profitable economies.

I'm not sure how focused Asia is on mining, as that wasn't mentioned anywhere?
Raw resources have to come from somewhere though, and Asia makes sense. 🤷‍♂️

Tourism + Suffocating Smog = no profit, in Asia and maybe NA as well.

Orbit; some tourism and mining, but largely untapped.

SA; local governments need to be dealt with... not sure how though.
But first, we need to become far less reliant on SA for food, lest the entire world collapse if/when they do.

hmm, looking back on v2 plan

[] Baby plan v2
-[] Inflate Hotspots - 75 Profit Factor
-[] Increase control of media distribution - 75 Profit Factor
-[] Lobby for favorable laws - 100 Profit Factor
-[] Expand/Take over Drug markets - 100 Profit Factor

Both Lobbying and increasing control of media should largely help with the SA situation, perhaps (if this plan wins) next turn we could get enough of a powerbase to secure SA. Also, what with us taking over the drug market having good synergy with Lobbying we should expect a large income boost. After that on Turn 3 we could finish our expansion into the EU market and (hopefully) calm down the terror situation in NA which would get us control of 2.5/5 zones, not including orbital. We could use any extra income past 350 to do other things such as Africa, Asia, or Orbital to hopefully bring us up to 3-4/5 zones, not including orbital. (Orbital isn't included because large groups of people don't live there). Are there any thoughts or objections to this plan?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, but Inflating Hotspots should increase our income because we sell military goods, while also preventing the conflict from stabilizing or calming down so that we can more easily gain control of the region when we need to.

If we plan to start dealing with the pollution we should only do so in the most profitable manner, as no matter how many people are dying from it they will always breed more. In addition to this we could in stead of spending our own resources fully on pollution control, we could create a PR program that makes it seem as though we are and encourage the inhabitants of the polluted zones to spend their own resources and time finding a solution with the promise of a bounty/reword. This will allow us to gain the PR benefits of fixing the air without any of the negatives of actually having to spend vast amounts of money on the technology. We still need to put profit at the foremost in our plans, as Profit Factor is not a limitless resource, we need to actively seek out ways to make it and increase our production of it. Human living conditions and safety must take at the very least a 3rd or fourth seat of importance to profits and our own corporate safety and stability.

Okay, so can we say that we've basically all agreed that three of the currently four projects we're aiming for this turn will be 'Deal with Air Pollution', 'Break SA control of global food supply' and it seems 'Get into the Power Sector'?

Which means we just need to work out what the fourth project will be, and then determine which are the two lesser projects we accept might fail.
