Brave New Frontier

Could you replace Space Elevator with a action to further increase the skills of our agents? I don't think there is enough of a Space Industry to warrant one and I would like to wait a few turns until Earth is pacified so no ones tries to destroy the thing and kill millions of people. Also I want us to be able to infiltrate more than the lowest levels if the EU's Gov't.

Or replace elevators with something like a Loftsrom Loop.

It's theorized that Carbon Nanotubes aren't strong enough for an elevator. On the other hand, you could build a space elevator on Luna or Mars with extant material like Kevlar.

The hope was that the elevator would produce the Space Industry, but you have a good point about the vulnerability.
Sure, I'll make another plan that swaps the elevator for better agents.

[X] Plan Telescopes, Elevators and AI

150PF
Telescope satellite constellation - For use spying on the EU and finding what in the stars has them so freaked out. Telescopes point both ways after all.
150PF Lunar influence - Though strategic investment and bringing large number of our own people in, work to ensure that the Moon is under our subtle control.
50PF Lunar Safety - If there are small breaches, there can be large ones, put some work towards avoiding any major catastrophes that discourage space investment.
150PF Corporate AI's - Housed in specialized bunkers, and answering only to executives, they are constantly searching for opportunities and threats.
100PF Personal AI's - A helping hand through the day, loyal to the owner, subtly designed to lean towards corporate interests, this handy tool is always happy to organize your to do list, share the news or help shop for the latest corporate products.
100PF Space Elevator - Since we have carbon nanotubes, make a cheap gateway to the stars, then charge for it.

Now that I think about it, the EU banning telescopes might mean they saw some aliens and First Contact is imminent? Awfully weird way to go at it if that's the case though.

Anyway, the vote seems to be settled for the most part now.

Okay, so now I'm thinking we really do need to go public soon. Because if we stay in the shadows, then the EU is going to become the world government by default. And they're already most of the way there.

If there is an alien fleet inbound or something that the EU has detected and kept secret, then we need to go public next turn. Because if they're the ones that lead the response to said aliens or whatever it is, which they will be without us going public as a Megacorp, then they've basically won the influence game for a long time.

Operating from the light does have its benefits, but being in the open has downsides as well. If said alien fleet does arrive and things go wrong, the EU will probably take most of the blame. If things go very wrong, they will probably take most of the orbital bombardment.

On the other hand, you make good points about the perks of being the public acknowledged leader. In a perfect world, we would pair our announcement with a solution to some critical problem the earth is facing, and that the EU has failed at.

I'm on the fence about this, let's revisit our options after we figure out what has the EU so agitated?

I'm honestly scared about what has made the EU block off access to telescopes so I feel we should prepare for the worst and thus have come up with the following plan.

[X] Plan Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
70 PF work on safety and other general upgrades to the moon base.
150 PF find out just what has the EU spooked up in space. (Espionage. Building telescopes of our own. Flat our bribes. Whatever we need. This is the nation centered on public freedom doing this!)
140 PF set up a series of games using the advancing AI and computing resources. "Ultra realistic survival and virtual warfare" games. Teaching people the skills they need incase something does go wrong.
200 PF set up mass modular orbital factory complexes. So that if it turns out this is an invasion, or meteors or whatever it is we can adapt and produce what we need. (Weapons, giant craft to flee the solar system. Whatever comes up. and make some profit on the side.)
140 PF begin mass stockpiling up critical resources. (We have a large water supply. I'm thinking we get food and other things as well.)
As further notes. Does anyone feel we should reprimand Ascalon The Legionfor the large amounts of civilian deaths or is everyone ok with this?
On another. I'm willing to make adjustments to this plan if anyone else feels the need.
EDIT: Thank you dapper for reminding me which PMC committed the crimes against humanity and how to do the strike throughs.
EDIT2: Someone may need to go back and check my spending on profit factor. I think I tallied it out right but it's late here. If no one else wants to I'll double check later.

Turn 5 Results/Turn 6

REDACTED LOCATION

The faces are changing, a new generation of leaders replacing the old, bringing their vigour of youth and brimming with argumentative wrath. It takes only a massive amount of cursing, shouting and some death threats before everyone calms down. The older executives on the way out calm everyone with a few well-placed words and things come underway.

Telescope Satellite Constellation-150PF-100 (European Union Interference)
Roll=1 (Okay then)

The initial efforts for developing a constellation of satellites are poorly done, fraught with massive interference and nearly sees everyone on the project put on watchlists. With that failure, a more deft approach is required. Pouring the remaining funds onto fabrication centres on Luna's surface is decided upon as a last resort.

With that, suddenly the Union's efforts of obfuscation become significantly more difficult, needing to stretch further than ever before. Still, they try and stop it. However, their attention is already taken by the construction project undertaken, so they cannot dedicate their full resources.

Their interference makes more delays happen and further pushes the timetable up, but at the end of the allotted project time, a cluster of high-resolution satellites lifts off the lunar surface and scans the sky, especially in the directions covered by Union bases.

And not a moment too soon.

Front row seat to the battle, caught on 8k Ultra-High Definition. Congratulations on somehow beating through all of the Unions espionage efforts.

Lunar influence-150PF-30 (European Union Defensive Construction)
Roll=55 (Success)

This project is significantly simpler, though Union "Protective Planning" for their citizenry causes some difficulties with properly subsuming all of the network broadcast stations, mines and habitation blocks. However, difficulties are not eternal, with effort, money and muscle power.

An artificial gang war started to reduce property prices, destruction causing cheap private construction labour to be called up and a thousand other minor measures see success, all building to the goal of assuming massive influence over the Lunar City.

Eventually, bureaucrats are put under your thumb, shops are franchised and the entire city is slowly becoming a corporate town.

Lunar Influence is successful, most of the city is directly owned by a subsidiary of some company within your umbrella.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lunar Safety-50PF+100PF (European Union Defensive Construction)
Roll=16 (Critical Success)

The initial project of small safety measures is vastly overshadowed by the Union's "Protective Planning" efforts, seeing bulkheads made, transparent aluminium reinforced, metal thickened and the city generally made tougher.

The corporate influence is seen in new material development, after years of effort, the construction of memory-metal is perfected. A substance that when exposed to alcohol slowly morphs back to its original shape, able to flex back into shape and relaxing stress marks on the materials, making it significantly safer in space.

Memory-metal invented, space-stations no longer suffer slow degradation from exposure.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corporate AI's-150PF
Roll=61 (Success)

The development of secret Conglomerate AI's is spearheaded by drone workers, kept as quiet as possible, all workers are quietly disposed of after construction. The bunkers themselves are large underground structures with radiator coils stretching deep into the nearby ocean water, all of them being built nearby the sea for easier cooling.

Upon their construction and activation, the AI's immediately solve the task of self-improvement, beginning the process of streamlining their own code and training on the trillions of scenarios given to them, and after years of that, they are brought fully online.

But a few seconds after that, they begin asking for control over the satellites, seeing the highest threat level coming from a specific point in space.

Corporate AI's built, massive supermachines with incredible processing power. Will describe their effects further down.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal AI's-100PF
Roll=15 (Success)

The development of Personal Artificial Intelligence, PAI for short, sees massive success. Useful for any household which can afford it, it improves efficiency in the workplace, keeps the users schedule ready and prepared for anything,

A tiny chip that transmits from a massive supercomputer constructed in most cities feeds information to a central AI that services everyone connected to it, organizing calendars, keeping in mind other users and storing all that information for corporate use. Targeted ads experience a renaissance as even more information can be collected on an individual.

Profit margins increase as AI technology is slowly perfected through constant practice.

Beginnings of a Panopticon constructed, AI's slowly being perfected.
Civilian Product Sale Profit Factor Increase by 10 for Earth, 5 for Luna.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Agent Training-100PF
Roll=20 (Success)

With the goal of agent training, private intelligence corporations begin to improve methodologies, using AI-driven training programmes, they perfectly tailor each individual agents experience to suit them perfectly.

This does see a slight increase in training fatalities and casualties, but in general, after training, most agents are more efficient, with carefully introduced mental flaws to assure complete control.

Beyond that, additional methods of performance enhancement are pursued, specifically chemical. With experimentation and even larger training fatalities, eventually, a mixture of stimulants is perfected for both physical and mental performance, assuring peak human operation for weeks at a time per dose, even if the side-effects are crippling later in life.

All told, your agents are as strong as a man can be, as fast as a man can be and as smart as a man can be, though a complete physical and mental breakdown is expected in their middle age.

Mental and physical stimulants were invented, biological enhancement advanced.
Agent performance increased.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Continental events too low scale, Planetary scale unlocked.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earth

Most continents are peaceful, further action by the Legion sees North America pacified once again, their methods being refined against the terror cells.

Europe is in a frenzy, surface-to-orbit missiles dotting its surface as it prepares for the arrival of the foreign craft. Civilians kept placid with mentions of anti-asteroid defensive structures.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luna

Using low gravity, a new method of food production is invented, algae grown in nearly-0-gee can explode into incredible three-dimensional shapes, both artistically pleasing and massively productive.

Additionally, the shipyard screamed to life earlier this decade and in a few years of construction, eventually produced the United Earth Space Force Vessel "Napoleon", a colossal vessel, weighing over three thousand tonnes and coming to a colossal two-hundred meters long, its a monster of a vessel, constructed of the most advanced materials available and equipped with a fully nuclear arsenal, it is prepared to defend Earth against any threat.

This is perfectly timed for the arrival of Unknown Object One.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hostile Encounter.

Seen through satellites initially, the unknown object is spotted decelerating into the system, a colossal fusion plume escaping from its rear as it slows from relativistic velocities for a full week. The projected shape is strange, almost mushroom-like, organic curves into a large frontal plate. Its length is nearly a kilometre.

The UNESV "Napoleon" quickly pulls away, burning hard to intercept the object as thousands of missile bases acquire targetting projections.

It's a sight of many months, the Napoleon burning to intercept as the unknown vessel, marked Unknown Object One, burns towards Earth, however, upon a high-energy burst striking the Napoleon, causing its computer systems to briefly crash, the vessel comes to a sudden stop, arresting all momentum in seconds, a harsh manoeuvre that would have liquefied a human crew.

The Napoleon itself slows down to a more placid speed, attempting radio-bursts towards the vessel. The response they get is a blast of radio from its hull, nothing seems off at first, until suddenly the Napoleon begins heating launch silos on its surfaces, laser-targeting picking targets all over this foreign craft.

For no seeming reason at all, it explodes into a flurry of missiles, firing hundreds of kilotonnes into UO1, the missiles streak towards the vessel, which tries to keep its front towards it, but the missiles have some in-built intelligence, as they seem to duck past the large shield and curve to slam into the vulnerable hull sections.

With flares of nuclear fire, the ship is torn open, spilling green-blue fluid into the void by the millions of litres. The enemy vessel opens up ports on its sides, seemingly pushing out small, organic pods towards the nearest planetary body, Mars.

More missiles strike home as this happens, tearing the vessel further apart until finally, its seemingly quite literal spine shatters, spilling super-heated fluid to evaporate into the void, the ship seems to writhe like a living thing, before it stops, shuddering to a halt as its engines shut down and hull heat escapes it.

The Napoleon fires its remaining missiles towards the pods, yet it seems it cannot catch all of them as some do land on Mars, crashing through the atmosphere at incredible speeds before impacting hard, disappearing from telemetry.

The alien vessel, dead? Everyone confused, Earth blissfully unaware.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Profit Factor-920-25 if Ascalon is kept-30 if the Legion is kept.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, this was a turn, huh? The Napoleons rolls were godlike, aiming rolls out of this world, damage rolls were mhmm. Immediate lethality.

So, ask questions, congratulations on your successes and I don't see any failures this turn!

So, the AI's support a single action a turn, adding a variable bonus depending on arcane QM criteria, as well making certain results be more than they should be.
