'Zima Królowa'

I'm a fucking moron for not realising earlier you have basically translated 'Winter Queen' into English. Even though Zima isn't an actual name afaik but meh, whatever.

Ask the IRL Byzantines how well having large infantry armies did against their horse archers.

Well, ask the Hungarians about fighting them with mostly cavalry armies...

Before the advent of gunpowder defeating a Mongol army on an open field was a very though proposition. We need to ally with something like OTLs Cumans to get some real horse archer auxiliaries and maybe training our infantry in a variation of the Bohemian wagon fort, but I am not sure that would be useful without gunpowder. Unfortunately Russia is very open... we only have the lakes and marshes close to Novgorod herself as a barrier against cavalry and the rivers as potential defensive lines, but they will likely be able to outmanouvre us and find alternative crossings.

There is a reason why Alexandr Nevskij acted as he did iotl...

The winged hussars are a superbe cavalry and probably more flexible than the more classical knights that I supppse make up the Imperial army, but still... what cavalry army managed to decisively beat the Mongols in their prime? The Mamlukes at Ain Jalut, but they were masters themselves of nomadic cavalry tactics... are there other examples?

It's not really an issue of 'who has beaten them', but learning from how the Mongols won,
And in line with that, I think you cottoned onto something before:

This will be a war of maneuver, then decisive battle.
The mongols want to either raid, or conquer. For the former, it behooves them to avoid our forces and get to our settlements. But, the trick is that outmanuvering part. If they can't get past us, and Hussar horses both run hard and recover quickly, then they need to either withdraw or break us. And in an invasion, they're seeking to break us anyway. And in the battle, we just need to not get separated from our infantry, rely on heavy cavalry, and invent surprise night attacks. Take the start of the battle of Mohi, for example.

However, the big campaign-ending victory condition will be to kill the Khan leading the force.
EDIT:
You need to read Dresden Files.

[X]Princess Matilda 'The Maid' of House Europa: The third (and only surviving) granddaughter of Philip the Wise, a maid of 16 years of age and currently the most eligible bachelorette in the entire empire. At least, according to Natasha. She is still very popular at court for her charms, her smart wit, and understanding of the empire's machinations and politics. She has gained many friends within the House of Lords and in the empire's richer western provinces throughout her youth. Unfortunately, she is also the second in line for the Throne of Europe, and any children she bears can create instability, especially if a foreign leader takes her hand in marriage. You would need to keep a close eye on her, as she has nearly been kidnapped by 'unknown parties' five times in the last three years.

[X]Princess Ai Song: A girl of 16, daughter of His Imperial Majesty Zi Song, Emperor of China, twin sister of Emperor Ling Song. There is not much known about her as you don't have any contacts within China. But from what you know from rumor, she is a very kind and gentle woman. More suited for diplomacy than the intrigues of court. You do not know what the Emperor is offering like the others, but it might be substantial... Or nothing at all.

Technology and possible support, especially gunpowder since thats what defeated the mongols

After the Cina DLC this is a must!

I'm gonna get a tally up so you all can discuss.

Edit: here's a tally. Good night.

[X]Alva Bijorndottier: A women of 16, fifth-born daughter of Grand Prince Bijorn 'The Redsail' Af Muso. She is one of the oddest marriage requests that came to your attention. A well-known captain and trader in the Baltic sea, she is one of the few women who went to the Imperial Naval Academy in London and is considered one of the best sailors in the empire. But her skill with ships is also backed by a strong sense of finance. Though she is not nearly as rich as the Medici, marrying her will bring over 50 ships under your command.

    [X]Princess Matilda Sorry about that

So, I planned to vote for Alva, and then I noticed something that I should have notice much earlier:
Axel and you found an engineer who could assist him in making all the shit in Novgorod flow into the Volga.
RL Novgorod prospered because of Baltic trade, but RL Novgorod is quite far away from Volga river.
So, how far away we are from the Baltic sea?
Do we even have a port?

The city of Novgorod has a port, but due to mongol raids and pirates hired by rivals, and oppurtunists, has fallen on hard times lately. I have actions planned for next turn that can help with that if you want to know.

The sewer project part that you quoted was mearly Vasily greatly overestimating what needed to be done and had a grandiose vision for a simpleish problem. Although he is a genius, he's not an architect or city planner that has that kind of specialized training, he's been trained as a soldier, lord and commander first and for most.

Obvious solution: convert to Islam and marry them all.
:V
Well... we could go back to our Slavic roots and raid and take them as concubines:V. It's much more badass to steal them away like Conan the barbarian or the Vikings.:V

At least according to CK2 logic.

Edit: if this winds up on shitck2says I will cry
