It will also paint a BIG fucking NEON SIGN above our head for Aizen: "Here I am recruit or let me have a mysterious ACCIDENT" (really only reason that is not the case is because TPK said he said some things and dying would have disturbed Aizens plans) while simultaneously branding us as a Rule breaker which will outright BAN us from being recruited into the first, second, sixth and eight Divisions out of pure principle. so learning shikai is yes very good but not while skipping academy and missing lessons and other training because of it.

This was actually less entertaining than I thought, we should have gone to the 10th division. Oh, well.
 
On the subject of the vote at hand I'd rather avoid missing school for our lessons with Kukaku. I'm confident in our abilities to pass the regular academy courses in time that I'd rather not deal with potentially having some sort of black mark on our record/reputation as a flake. It's not like we have reason to think Kukaku is a particularly exceptional teacher to my knowledge or that we won't get a chance to learn Shikai fairly soon.

That's me though.

People who argue that only the exams matter are right on that, BUT we are currently learning the basics. The foundations of the skills. We need to learn these the most. Independent study can help catch up with everything but the basics.

Also, what if we get stuck in Shikai because of our poor control? Our control, due to now having more power, will be shot down again. We are focusing on Kaido for a reason!

Okay, I've been staying out of this debate so far, but a couple things need to be addressed here:
Firstly, this may not be the manga, but Ichigo is still Ichigo, and will take to high-pressure training exactly as well as he always does.
Secondly, it'd be really hard for us to "get stuck in shikai", considering Zangetsu doesn't have a sealed form in the first place.
 
I get the feeling if we get previews for each option, one will cause the other to jump ship.

Edit: LostDeviljho, our sword is not in fucking Shikai. Because believe it or not, Zangetsu has a fucking sealed form.

Oh? Do tell? Because uh, basically nothing that I know of supports that claim.
The closest Zangetsu ever comes to a sealed form is the giant sword from the very beginning of the manga, and that is quite explicitly not what we got.

I believe there was mention somewhere in an update that we'll be able to reduce the size of our sealed sword once we learn to control our spiritual pressure. Lemme see if i can track it down.
 
The fact that we got shikai-mode Zangetsu right off the bat is really weird in its own right, but the point I'm trying to convey here is that the notion of getting stuck in shikai is basically nonsense, because the only times Zangetsu isn't in shikai is during bankai or final getsuga.

And in canon did Ichigo ever get the blank starting sword?

Even if it does take us months, this is still the best use of our time. Most shinigami don't get shikai ever.
