Bleach: Derailed

I can never understand this mindset.

Like, if you enjoy the setting and characters, how is the PC's build able to be a showstopper?

I totally get not enjoying a given build, but to dislike one so much it negates any positives of... literally everything else about a quest - just seems an extreme reaction to me, like throwing away a sandwich because it had ham instead of prosciutto, even though it's still got legit bread and spread.

Eh, a lot of the time something that COULD have been something I'd really enjoy will basically end up a tainted experience when it ends up being something else, as opposed to if it was that something else all along. It can be hard to separate out the thing itself from that sense of frustration. Every otherwise good moment still has that little bit in the back of my head where I'm going "but it could've been great!"

Welcome to how my mind works.

In this case, I've read so many Bleach Quests with a Vizored MC, that it's become the new standard character type. This was an Ichigo who was shaping up to be interesting because all he had were Shinigami powers and capabilities on top of the little political capital as a Shiba and as a friend of a member of the Oetsu. He was interesting because of what he would need to accomplish to face some of the characters he did in canon.

How would he have tried to resolve a situation similar to the SS Arc when he was a part of the system and how would he deal with the fallout? How would he have fared against Grimmjaw without his mask? To what extent would he have merged Bakudo into his fighting style?

And all of this without the ever present "threat" or "power-up" button that is the Hollow Mask.

THAT is why I was interested in this quest to begin with, to see an Ichigo with nothing BUT Zangetsu and various shinigami skills...and then maybe if Ichigo had found someone beyond him, then we get to truly see how far he would go to live up to his name by doing something he KNOWS the full implications of and just not caring because there are people who are relying on him dammit!

Look, it may seem like nothing to you, but there you go. A brief look into why I decided to step out.

It's more of a case of wanting a sandwich without cheese for once, then getting it. The cheese adds to the flavour sure, but you've had so much cheese that you're honestly sick and tired of it and you had already fantasized about how different that ham and tomato sandwich was going to be. Was going to be delicious or was it going to lack something, who knows?

Dramatic to you, certainly, but hey, we all look at and experience things differently.

So, anyways, have fun, 'kay?

I understand this feeling - I was intrigued by the idea myself, it was the biggest draw to join the quest - but isn't it a little early still to make that call? I mean, at least let TPK and the players work the whole incident out, first. Maybe (ok, probably) it will go down the familiar path you're predicting, but even that still has some potential new ground since 15 is already inside the system as a Shinigami cadet, and maybe we'll both be surprised...

edit:
To bring out his inner beast!
I wanted to link to Fred Schneider (of The B52s) performing "Monster In My Pants" here, but couldn't find a legit upload of it. You'll have to call out for Google Man on your own, I'm afraid...

I wouldn't rule out one of the options ending without us getting hollowfied. Probably killing Zangetsu before he transforms.

Hey now, we don't know that he's about to get the Vizored upgrade. He might turn into an Arrancar, or even just a powerful Hollow! That'd be pretty neat.
