Bleach: Derailed

I don't know, it kind of feels like he's baiting us. Take this power-up or your family dies. For real. Like, I kind of understand we'd go after then eventually, but to do it immediately?

Although that could just be my fever messing with my judgement.

It's legitimately bleach canon that new hollows frequently go after their living family first thing, it's even IC knowledge because Urahara told Ichigo that before he even got sent off to Soul Society in the first place. So, sure we might not NECESSARILY do it immediately but there's a very good chance we'd do it as soon as possible.

Hmm, that's true. How the hell would he know? I don't know of anything in this Quest where Ichigo comes upon such knowledge. He didn't meet Rukia/Urahara who talked about such things in canon after all.

Yeah, but A) We died before we ever met Rukia/Urahara who in canon talked about such things and B) where the fuck did Zangetsu get such knowledge when Ichigo in this quest has not come upon such knowledge?

I'm suspicious now too!

No, Urahara explicitly told us about this. It was how he convinced us to let him move us on peacefully. Unless you think there's more than one shinigami running around with a bucket hat in Karakura town?

I don't remember him saying that in the scene. I'll go back and re-read it then.

The worst part was waiting all day, stewing in your own fury, until the soul reaper in the hat came along and explained what'd happened, and that he'd have to send you on to the afterlife before you turned into a monster -a hollow. You hadn't wanted to go, but once you knew that hollows go for their living families first, it hadn't even been a choice.
No need to read back through it, I found it for you.

Huh, okay, then why didn't Ichigo recognize the Shinigami as Urahara when he was mentioned later when Takkako and Ichigo were going over the Noble Clans of Soul Society?

Urahara isn't a major noble. Yoroichi is the (ex?)noble, and he didn't meet her at all.

Edit: He also never learned Urahara's name. He was "the shinigami in the hat"

That design, compared to Dangai!Bankai!Tensa Zangetsu, sucks. But it's a great idea in theory.
It's basically a David Bowie tribute and is pretty okay besides. The David Bowie ness makes it equal, but otherwise I would agree. Why one horn?! Make at least that symmetrical!

Was it ever confirmed that shinigami was Urahara?

@chocolote12 seems to think so.

Yes, but when learning about the 5 Noble families, it mentioned Yoruichi and Urahara fleeing and talked about Urahara and his experiments.

Didn't make the David Bowie connection before, but David Bowie is David Bowie. Only he can pull such a look off and Ichigo sure can't. Not to mention the horn thing was totally stupid. It looked Stupid on Dangai!Bankai!Tensa Zangetsu, but still better than it did on Ichigo himself.

Right, and my point is that Ichigo has no way to know that "Urahara" and the "shinigami in the hat" are in any way connected, much less the same person.

Urahara's hat actually does a decent amount to cover his face. Even if he DID see a picture of Urahara I would not be surprised if he didn't make the connection in part because why the fuck would a renegade mad scientist be sending him off to the afterlife proper. After it got revealed he might go "how did I not see that" but for the time being it wouldn't really be surprising if he didn't realize what was up.

I suppose I'm gonna have to bow out. This is heading into a direction I personally feel like it didn't need to as I was honestly looking forward to seeing how far a purely shinigami Ichigo could be taken.

I wish you all the best.

I can never understand this mindset.

Like, if you enjoy the setting and characters, how is the PC's build able to be a showstopper?

I totally get not enjoying a given build, but to dislike one so much it negates any positives of... literally everything else about a quest - just seems an extreme reaction to me, like throwing away a sandwich because it had ham instead of prosciutto, even though it's still got legit bread and spread.

Unless of course you can't eat ham because of culture, religion or some kind of medical condition. (lol)
