We want a nice rank when we graduate, and this is one way to help our odds (even if our odds were already pretty great.)

I'm kind of torn on whether to get Takako involved, but letting her decide is probably for the best.

And of course, we need to keep regularly giving her our massive, throbbing essence. After all, what are friends for?

I like the idea of more bonding time, and Hado has a lot of applications beyond blowing shit up. Like increasing our general control abilities, which will be very useful for other forms of Kido.

As for the tournament...well. We'll probably do better than Takako at this, and I don't think we need to shatter Bestie's ego like that. IMO.

Some real combact expirience is good

I think she's unlikely to join even if we pressure her, fighting does not seem to be her area of expertise, though possibly a tournament might HELP by stomping over the other contestants so she gets a better picture than comparing with Mr Unlimited Power

It's an Academy tournament. I'm pretty shikai aren't mentioned because who the hell would think an academy student has a shikai?

On that note, should we use our shikai to fight from the beginning? I recall people telling Ichigo not to rely on bankai, so showing him capable without shikai could be an advantage for some squads. On the other hand showing up with a shikai is also a big thing for the talent scouts, and as bonus Zangetsu would be happy to kick some ass.

Shikai should only be used if needed (and definitely used in the last fight).

I'd say wait until we need to use Shikai. And if we don't until the final round, then just release it the moment the round starts.

Release it at the moment the round ends if the enemy is an asshole. Because nothing says "You are beneath me" better than not using your super-powerup in the final fight.

Edit: Unless it turns out Ichigo needs his shikai to be good in the tournament, which is also a distinct possiblity. And because it is a tournament arc, the final round might not happen at all.

Nah. We need to show we can actually use our Shikai. Its one thing to have a Shikai. Its a completely other thing to have it and be able to use it.
