Behind the Serpent Throne (CK2)

Let's kick this off. This is a temporal plan and I would really appreciate discussion to improve it.

[X] Plan: In martial arts, martial comes first.

[X] Every Special Little Snowflake

[X] Doctor, Doctor

[X] A Survey of Military Preparedness
[X] A Survey of Military Preparedness

[X] Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough

[X] The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1

[X] Largess of the Emperor
[X] Largess of the Emperor

[X] Outcasts in the Society

[X] I have a List

[X] Between South and North

First things first. We promised to do Doctor, doctor so that is one down and 8 left.
The Winter event gives us a chance to show off our poetry and gain fame like that.
We need money and we are already vying for the liason position so for now, since it has greater chance of success, I aim for some land.
Sincé we aim for that position, I got us to start making our case.
We will have to move the army. Sincé we don't know the chance of learning the military preparedness and it takes 2 turns, I put two dice on it since I really don't want to fail it. Likewise, I started us working in solving the arrear situation,
While I would really like to do A Hero stands alone? It is high risk and takes 2 turns without us knowing the chances. I would argue to do it anyways for rule of cool but for now I am proposing a safer option in rising an unknown school.
Finally, and this is one I would be willingly remove for something else since I am not so sure about it, The emperor boys in order to play the long game. Though perhaps another martial or poetry action or socializing with the Young ones would be better.

That makes 9 actions for personal.

For state we have two. I chose to make a strategic retreat from the matter of the forts for now, to try again later. Meanwhile, the governor of Irit suggests that some people might be taking advantage and make more unrest. If we can prove they are connected to Jinn or that they at least exists, it would show that the situation is more serious and thus help convince on the importance of interfering.

Then, between South and North to lay the ground for the option regarding the Southlands. If we open relationships with Hari-Su then we will more easily find those who want to open the frontier, which would make it easier to get our Rassit and make sure they don't take advantage of the situation.

Thoughts? Something to further sinergy the options?

edit: Sincé it undermines the generals, changed the arrear option for doubling Largess

-[X] Every Special Little Snowflake

This seems to play up the credentials we've been selling to date, so it goes best to compete here and back up the boasting.

-[X] Young Snakes, Sharp Fangs

Connections sorely needed, since we've been riding out the novelty train.
Some useful synergy too, those friends we make here with younger siblings that can be connected to the emperor below would be helpful.

-[X] To Protect...

We've been here long enough to need bodyguards now.

-[X] Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough

Continue getting through to the Generals. While marginalizing them is great, we don't really have enough to do more than loosen their pinky.

-[] Rationed Off

But it's winter and the soldiers need feeding.

-[X] Doctor, Doctor...

As promised, we're doing it.

-[X] Perhaps A Wrong Foot? - 2 Influence

Yes, it would be annoying to have to give some respect to the extant poets, but the alternatives are to surrender the field and be seen defeated, or to invest a great deal of time and effort into cultivating an ENTIRE branch of poetry from scratch.

So spend a little time, eat a little crow, and then spin them into our little circle.

-[X] The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1 - 2 Influence

This part is the long game. The Emperor's playmates would be both sorely needed for his morale purposes, and a means of manipulating him in the future. And failing here would also have long term consequences. Others no doubt will see us do it, and seek to block us off or insert their own proposals. Once we fail, do not expect to be able to edge back in.
It would of course, help a bit when we ask him for a stipend later, if this goes well.
Dropped the second influence so we can fix the rations issues

-[X] At the corner of Empire.

To go with the group visiting from Hari Bueli, we get some information on affairs there to react more appropriately.

-[X] I have a List

Oh yes, a list of those who are corrupt would be incredibly valuable.

Grab it and we have people by the balls. The bandit situation is currently on the freeze, while we set up the other pins for it.

There is food, there are soldiers. And come the thaw we lance it.

I'd like to spend two dice on Doctor and Largess (if it's picked) since succeeding in them is very important. Bare successes bring problems of their own, so I'd rather see a "less is more" approach.

This is just a first impression, will need to go throu options again, later. Politics is hard >~<

I would suggest against ignoring the army situation, specially paying them. The longer we put it off, the harder related actions will be.

Phone is not letting me post! It must be conspiring with Prince Jinn!

Because if winter is beginning and armies move in spring, we don't have that much time and these things take multiple turns.

Edit: Damn you Jinn and your power over internet connections!

Point. I'll see where I can tweak

Doctor actually has very good success rates after adding skill bonus.

I'm intending to take Largess next turn though, after buttering the Emperor up a bit with playmates.

There might be an issue with your reasoning. IS the emperor the one deciding our land?

[X] Plan Random
[] Every Special Little Snowflake

What else?

[] Doctor, Doctor...

We promised to do this.

[] To Protect...

You never know. We might need the bodyguards.

[] A Survey of Military Preparedness x 2

We really need to do this. And since we don't know the chance of success, putting 2 Influence on this.

[] Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough

Start to gain influence with the military.

[] Rationed Off

Increase military morale and loyalty. Gain a better standing with them. Might undermine the generals, but I still think we should do this since it's currently the only thing we can do to improve the military.

[] The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1 x 2

I wanted to do Young Snakes, Sharp Fangs as well, but I'd rather not fail this one, so putting 2 Influence on it.

[] Between South and North

Will hopefully begin the process of making it easier for us to get the Wind-Dancers into the country.

[] I have a List

Weed out the corruption! That would increase our standing.
I also wanted to do Largess of the Emperor, but I'd rather put 2 Influence on it, just to be sure, and we can't this turn.

In general, I have grown to dislike the minor successes. Last turn, for example, I would have preferred not to do Poetical Exercises at all rather than get that miserable success. So I will assign two dice to quite a few actions.

[X] Plan Gingganz

-[X] Every Special Little Snowflake - 2 dice
A solid success will hopefully help us recover from the problems caused by Poetical Exercises last turn.

-[X] Doctor, Doctor - 2 dice
This is something we have promised to do and it's probably highly important and dangerous to fail, so two dice.

-[X] To Protect...
We dabble in dangerous things and need protection.

-[X] A Survey of Military Preparedness
We need to know what is going on with the military if we want to build up our military influence. On the other hand this action seems rather safe, so one die should be enough.

-[X] Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough -2 dice
For this, on the other hand, I want a solid success, and actual failure could be a disaster, undoing the work we have done in presenting us as liaison between Kuojah and the Generals.

-[X] Yanmae's Seclusion
The benefits of this are unclear, but I would like to build up further ties with our family.

-
[X] Between South and North
We have ties to the Southlands and I want to take advantage of them. The first step is to get into contact with Hari-Su.

-[X] I have a List
Let's do some follow-up on the Irit situation.

I'll guess I'll just say my problems with this plan, since it is technically winning right now.

1) I think A Survey of Military Preparedness is alot more important right now than Perhaps A Wrong Foot?

2) I absolutely don't want to fail The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1 and only spending 1 Influence on it would leave a pretty good chance of failure.

3) Why At the corner of Empire? Between South and North might (of course speculation, but I think there's a good chance) increase our chance of getting the Wind-Dancers into the country, but what do you hope to gain in Hari-Bueli?

-[X] Rationed Off

But it's winter and the soldiers need feeding.
I originally wanted to choose 'Rationed Off', too. But given the description, the point seems to be to undercut the Generals:
Anything at all is possible when the goal is undermining the direct link between the Generals political aims and the soldier's actual needs.
This seems inconsistent with choosing 'Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough'. I think we will have to decide whether to work with the Generals or against them.

The vote will probably close Thursday.

Also, you *can* take both. It'd necessarily be something of a Janus-like balancing act, though.

Point. Switching back

3) Why At the corner of Empire? Between South and North might (of course speculation, but I think there's a good chance) increase our chance of getting the Wind-Dancers into the country, but what do you hope to gain in Hari-Bueli?
It's specifically highlighted that a delegation from Hari Bueli will be inbound, and that we may want to be on top of that situation
2) I absolutely don't want to fail The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1 and only spending 1 Influence on it would leave a pretty good chance of failure.
Increased back to 2 Influence
1) I think A Survey of Military Preparedness is alot more important right now than Perhaps A Wrong Foot?
I have both. And Perhaps A Wrong Foot is time critical too, because we've thrown down a challenge to the poets of the court with the past two turns, and need to either back it up, or restrain ourselves, OR face their retaliation.

And poets can do quite a lot to influence things here.

It's specifically highlighted that a delegation from Hari Bueli will be inbound, and that we may want to be on top of that situation
We don't have to be on top of every situation. And frankly, I'd rather increase our chance of getting our Wind-Dancers, which Between South and North might do since it would unlock actions that would allow us to build influence in Hari-Su, which I think would help with getting them into the country.

Eh, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, no you don't. Your plan currently has:

Every Special Little Snowflake
Young Snakes, Sharp Fangs
To Protect...
Building the Case, Part 1: I'm Good Enough
Doctor, Doctor...
Perhaps A Wrong Foot? - 2 Influence
The New Emperor's Boys...Part 1 - 2 Influence

For 9 Influence total. No A Survey of Military Preparedness.

Sincé rationing undermines the generals, I reasiggned its influence into doubling the one for Largess. Unless anyone can think a better option to replace it?

It sorta undermines the generals. It's a bit complicated, but part of it is finding a way to undermine them in a way they can't object to. And part of it is of course that plenty of people would ask, "So?"

Like, generals having that much control over their troops can be dangerous, so winning some loyalty from the troops can undermine them, sure, but...

It all depends on what your long-term goals are, and how much you trust the leadership of the army currently.
