Behind the Serpent Throne (CK2)

[X] Plan Riding Around The Inner Courts

I like it.
I also like that it came with explanations, because scrolling up and down is hella annoying.
But it looks good.

Ok. I am a bit confused about the mechanics. I understand that the influence we allocate is equal to the number of dice rolled, with us taking the best number for the action. But how do the stats come into play? Because I see options saying we roll diplomacy, stewardship and learning dice and the like but I am not entirely certain what difference do they make.

You roll a d100+half of the relevant stat.

So, if you put 1 Influence dice into an action where your stat is 30.

Then you're rolling a 1d100+15 against whatever likelihood there is.

(I had a big ol' post saying this right before Turn 1...)

[X] Cool big bro
-[X] The Education of an Emperor ( think that this is most in character and most fun to introduce K to boy emperor, it is high risk and high reward)
--
[X] 2D (since it is with lowest chance of success, and high success here is could be potentially useful)
-[X] The Council of Generals (required, and high chance of success, nor need for extra dice)
-[X] Csrae Bound ( we do not know how many turns this would be viable, so we should try it now)
-[X] A Letter to A Friend (we could loose much if we delay this)
-[X] A Place to Ride (IC)
-[X] True Lords of the Clipped Coin (two turn action but potentaly very useful)

[X] Plan Teach How It Is Done.

-[x] The Education of an Emperor

If I understand this right, the bonus should be bigger than the serpent gardens and it presents us as either a mentor figure or someone who cares that he is still a child.

-[x] The Council of Generals

Needed to get martial options

-[x] Csrae Bound

Seems time sensitive. The guy who wrote the letter said he will think we don't want to contact him if we don't reply.

-[x] Constant Companions

Lets our people enter court. It is backup.

-[x] A Place to Ride

Keeps us Rassit and exotic.

-[x] Pious Wishes

While I would like the clothes option since it counters the loss of influence that will come once we are not exotic anymore, we must also show that we are part of the empire and that we respect the office of emperor.

-[x] True Lords of the Clipped Coin

Lets us know about what could be happening with the pretender without relying in our low intrigue but in a higher stat. It is why we are here after all.

[] Plan Gingganz

-[] Before the Serpent Throne

I think it is important that we get formally welcomed to the court, as Csirit seems to put a high value on proper procedure.

-[] The Education of an Emperor
--[] 2 Dice

I would like to get some influence on the future emperor, and if we do it, we have to get it right.

-[] A Place to Ride

A Rassit needs to ride.

-[] The Council of Generals

Gaining martial options sounds interesting, as that is what we are best at. Having an in with the generals may also help us get our Rassit troops into Csirit.

-[] Family Matters

Family is important in Csirit, and we might gain some allies.

-[] Between South and North

"But what of another sort?" Prince Namal asked, his tone casual, "What if you were the key to reopening trade and reducing the harsh taxation and cruelty which people of Southland stock face in...Hari-Su, was that what your people called it?"
If we manage to do as Prince Namal asks, we will gain an ally in the South. We may also gain credit with Hari-Os for increasing trade, and hence their wealth.

Edited the vote away due to a change of mind.

From: Yonu of lineage Yon, junior, sub-minister to the third division of the Bureau of the Masses and Governence, submitted to the Liason office as a head clerk of the Csrae unit.

Greetings and all respectful salutations to you. I would introduce myself and would request that in the future we talk. There are bonds and ties that are shared that mean it is only respectful and polite, under the Gods and Judges to make your acquaintance.

If this is not pleasing to you, I shall desist any unnecessary communication.

With sincerity,
Yonu of lineage Yon."

Interesting. I wonder how he knows our mother/knows of our mother?

Do things make sense? Not sure whether the number of votes so far is to be expected or not, but opening things up for questions if anyone has any concerns.

There is a quite a bit of stuff that is not terribly interesting but that needs to be done. Formal introductions, finding a place for Arimi and Vedal, hiring servants and bodyguards. I suggest we get that done now and turn to more interesting things next turn.

'A Place to Ride' is chosen because a Rassit needs to ride, and 'Csrae Bound' because replying to the letter from Yonu is probably time-sensitive.

I think one of the reasons why the number of votes is rather low is that we have a vast number of options, and often not enough information to decide just how important they are right now.

In addition, several of the vote options are just things that need to be done after moving to a new place but that noone particularly wants to do, basically an upper class version of paperhanging, getting some furniture, etc. See the examples in 'Plan Settling In' above. I think they could have been handled in the background, while just advancing the timeline a bit.

While this post has a rather negative tone, I still enjoy the quest a lot. The world is fascinating, and there is certainly no lack of intriguing options to choose from.

To note: a lot of what you see as paperhanging is actually rather important.

You actually already have servants even if you don't choose that, just so you know.

They're just, you know, loyal to your father first and foremost.

A more informal approach to a needed action, and it should synergize with our own poetry experience.

-[x] Constant Companions

We need to arrange something for our companions, and given the nature of the quest it's likely our character will rise and thus they would. We should also have the bodyguards of our father who would at least ensure our safety anyway, if not secrecy.

-[x] Clothes Make The Man
-[x] A Place to Ride
-[x] The Council of Generals

The first two options for me are pretty mandatory, as the character needs a riding location given his history as a Rassit which should also ensure he remains relatively stress neutral. The clothes are needed given this is a Royal court, and how just like words and body language clothes are a form of communication too (presumably this option reduces influence penalty). The council of generals as our father specifically asked our aid in this, likely because of our military mind and the fact the Emperor's uncle has favor with them so there is a fear of usurpery.

-[x] Csrae Bound

The last remaining courtier action for me goes here, as it seems highly likely this happened due to the absurd first impressions roll which has good indications. It is also potentially time limited, but that in of itself shouldn't be the main reason to vote for it.

-[x] True Lords of the Clipped Coin

There were plot hooks abundant when the character travelled through this region to get to court, and it plays a role in what is likely to be the main story challenge in the beginning.

You're plan is the closest one to what I'd think is ideal, composed of all the actions we should do. I'd vote for it but perhaps you should include the vote 'The Council of Generals'? It's the reason why we're here after all; to prevent a civil war and, barring that, prepare for the worst. If it's bodyguards you want to find our two Rassit could be used. Just need to swap 'Constant Companions' with 'The Council of Generals' and you won't need 'To Protect...' any longer due to the redundancy.

Precisely because 'The Coucil of Generals' is so important I would want to assign two dice to it. We need a solid success, not just a minor success.

Also, turning the Rassit into bodyguards is only a temporary solution, and I want to be done with looking for bodyguards.

[X] Plan Riding Around The Inner Courts

Csrae Bound and Between South and North are both good but I suppose there'll be time for it later. And Courier Services is indeed good to get out of the way before sending letters, though if we fail the roll for it I think we should go ahead with letter-writing as this early on it's unlikely to contain anything that's that important to keep secret anyways.

It could also synchronize with A Letter To A Prince, which struck me as a potentially really interesting/flavorful option. Though... even if Between South and North gets passed over for tackling the (more immediate) Prince Jinhai problem, True Lords of the Clipped Coin seems more practical, so if we can only pick one thing next round A Letter To A Prince probably loses out. The way I'm looking at it, at least.
