World Gen Phase 1

dgr11897

FBI surveillance Tank
Location
Behind you
It is a time of war, of heroes, villains, aces, and mooks dying by the thousands on the frontline. You are of the final category, a mook, who has started to ascend a bit from that role. From the beginning you were already a level above cannon fodder, not by far, but enough to allow you to pull off a feat that has earned you more importance, given you a chance to cease to be just a redshirt or background character, granting you Character points which lift you further above normal grunts, and awaken you to the reality that you're living in an anime. Before we can get to that though, we need to generate a world for you to inhabit.
Mook type(pick two of the below, your class/mook type will be a fusion of the two, in some manner.)
[]Mecha Mook: You pilot a mechanized war machine on the frontlines, a humanoid battle platform of decent power, which still pales in comparison to Ace models.
[]Ship captain Mook: You are the captain of a small corvette or destroyer, be it a normal naval vessel, an airship, or perhaps a spaceship.
[]Special forces Mook: More elite than most, you are one of the boots on the ground, trained in stealth, given some armor and a gun. Still isn't enough though, you're still going to die if you directly confront an Ace.
[]Mage Mook: One of those blessed with mystic powers, allowing you to use a flight rig and a gandr, one to let you fly and lift the latter, the other to let you cast magic, however long it may take you to cast your spells and however weak they may be. (Think youjo senki mixed with coffin princess chaika, if you know either of those, if not, then think of mages as like flying artillery with energy shields, except the spells take ages to cast and there are lots of more elite mages who will wipe the floor with you) You are uncommon, but not rare, nothing innately special.
[]Fighter mook: One of those who use an aircraft to fight, a high flying category of mook, who are typically slaughtered in some kind of mission gone wrong.
[]Error

Barebones setting(Pick one of the below)
[] A cold war gone hot scenario, with advanced tech on all sides. Modern/Dieselpunk tech.
[] A fantastical war, between two nations on a fantasy world. Dungeonpunk/steampunk option. Sufficiently advanced magic.
[] A solar war, between the nations who have colonized the skies. Near future tech, so railguns, plasma rifles, and maybe fusion reactors.
[] An interstellar war, between earth and its colonies. Far future tech, Shields, energy guns, mind uploading, and FTL drives.
[] An invading force has arrived on your world, and is attempting to exterminate your forces. Expect to face small numbers of highly elite enemies, with much more advanced tech than you. The tech in the setting will be semi random, and based on what I feel fits the rest.
[]Error

--------
Hello everyone, and welcome to my first attempt at a quest. This was inspired by Trent01's cool awakened Mecha redshirt quest, but I've put my own spin on things. Right now is setting and char gen basics, pretty much defining what the world is like and how you fit into it. After initial voting ends I will generate several more detailed options from the results, which you can either refuse, or pick one of. If you refuse the options you may pick from the list again, though your options will be more narrow as I will eliminate previously chosen options from the lists.
I will add more mechanics as the world starts to fill out. Fair warning, I am thinking on my feet here, and have very little clue about what the heck I am doing.

Character sheet
Char sheet for 5H1R0
5H1R0's design conceals the fact that you are a robot, you mostly look like a human in a suit. In fact they wear a suit similar to those worn by normal mages, they have a somewhat human looking metallic face beneath that, and a robotic voice.
Mental abilities:
Charisma Lv 1
Wisdom Lv 1
Technical (knowledge of technology, mundane and magical. Allows you to try and exploit vulnerabilities in enemy gear or upgrade your own given time.) Lv1
Arcane (Knowledge of magic) Lv 1
Cleverness (underhanded schemes and anything related to intelligence not covered by the above) Lv 1
Known spells:
Magic bullet
Sunder
Barrier
Mana pulse.
Signature spells:
Radiant Overdrive, a spell which builds up power then pumps it into your flight and enhancement spells, making you waaayy stronger, faster, and more durable for a little while. It has a high ish cost and takes a bit to cast though. This version is boosted with Radiant damage (Shorter range, mildly higher cost, but will rip the target apart with a little time)

Can't wait to feel what it's like being on the opposite side from the likes of Galm 1. :^)

Pick two types please, I apologize if I didn't communicate that well. If people really want to I will allow you to select one of the normal mook types though. But I feel that's a bit dull, somewhat...

Seems good enough for me

Fantasy submarine option! Because clearly a merger of ship captain and special forces means we get a stealth ship!*

*Footnote: I mean, okay, this could be darned near anything. Rickety-looking sky-freighter captain - except she's a q-ship, most of her cargo space given over to armaments and improved engines. Not stealthy per se, but certainly not what she looks like. Or... etcetera.

This is actually somewhat correct, stealth ship is one of the three options generated by that combination. The other two are special forces squad leader (Ship captain=leadership) or a special forces transport ship (or maybe a massive land battleship (be it with legs or without), though that may be a combination of ship captain and mecha mook.)

Of course if we want to aim for something like Mecha MGLN then interstellar would be better... geez I'm suddenly conflicted now. Decisions, decisions.
How long will the vote be up for by the way?

Eh, probably until Sunday, I'll call it sooner if there's a clear leader before then.
Edit:On the subject of Mecha MGLN you would probably end up with something like that no matter what tech level you picked if you go with Mecha+Mage. Or at least you're likely to end up with it as an option.

  • [X] Plan: We Were Built to Die for You, We have Failed
-[X]You returned to deliver valuable info to high command after being heavily wounded, you should have died, but it wasn't your time just yet. +2 Character points, High command appreciates your efforts.
-[X]You were the sole survivor of an ambush that destroyed the rest of your squad. +2 character points. Can be taken alongside another option. However, this option has the negative of getting you a minor reputation for getting your squadmates killed, not exactly the best, so you may have to go without backup in some scenarios.
-[X] Does this unit have a soul? You are a robotic mage alternative developed to even the odds. An android that can perform magic, and has a built in flight rig. But unlike your brethren you are sapient, not merely sentient. (Spells+Tech/body upgrades. Also lower options for ace interaction outside of combat. Though you have an option to later reveal that you are a robot after interacting as a human in a space suit with the protag for most of the series.) +2 Character point
-[x]You are part of the EDF, the Earth Defense Forces. Fighting against the rebellious colonies. (Anti resistance option)
[x] Plan Boots on the Ground
-[x]You were the advance team, sent ahead to die and show the audience the difficulty of the objective. Against all odds, you succeeded in it, though you were the only one to make it back alive. +3 character points, you earn a reputation as a reliable force, able to be sent on missions and come out on top no matter what.
-[x] You are a ground combat unit. A mini mecha pilot whose mecha has magical abilities, and no flight capabilities. It's pretty survivable, but has relatively low mobility, especially considering a lot of aces can fly. (Ground combat tech+magic option.)
-[x]You are part of the EDF, the Earth Defense Forces. Fighting against the rebellious colonies. (Anti resistance option)
    [X] Plan Revolution Rises!
-[x]You were the advance team, sent ahead to die and show the audience the difficulty of the objective. -[X] You are a member of ELF, the Europa Liberation Front. A rebellious group on the outer edges of the solar system, fighting against the forces of earth for your freedom. You may or may not be allied to OGRE, the Orbital Group for Resisting Earth, And/or lead by ORC, Orbital Resistance Command. (Resistance option, Warning, UPHILL BATTLE. If you pick this, take +1 CP you're going to need it.)

World Gen Phase 2
Char gen phase 2. Please maybe vote by plan?

Character points: These are used to buy stuff to make you more unique. You have 5 CP base. These will be spent in the next phase of character generation.
What have you done that has freed you from being a mook? (Pick one)
[]You succeeded in harming an ace. Not killing them, just wounding and forcing them off. +4 character points. But you have an Ace after you specifically, and you have higher base fame
[]You returned to deliver valuable info to high command after being heavily wounded, you should have died, but it wasn't your time just yet. +2 Character points, High command appreciates your efforts.

Role: (Pick one)
[]You are a powered armor pilot (Think Iron man style super powered armor, but everyone has it) Fighting in the skies with all sorts of awesome gadgets and equipment. (Pure tech route, you can improve your armor through new technology and little else) -1 Character point
[] Does this unit have a soul? You are a robotic mage alternative developed to even the odds. An android that can perform magic, and has a built in flight rig. But unlike your brethren you are sapient, not merely sentient. (Spells+Tech/body upgrades. Also lower options for ace interaction outside of combat. []You are part of the Capitalist mars Colonization Force. Fighting against communism on the red planet. (Mars ground war option 1)
[]You are part of the Red Planet army. Opposing the Capitalist mars colonization forces Dogs. (Mars ground war option 2)
[]You are part of a Private Military Company operating on the edge of the system, fighting for whoever pays the most. (PMC option)

To be honest, I have a preference here, I feel like the, "Does this unit have a soul" And the ELF options are probably the coolest, especially together. Mostly because I want to see how you guys go about becoming a major character when you can't really interact with the protag and other major characters outside of combat. And also because I like all the acronyms. And the main character being a robot made by a resistance group on a small ice moon.
