An Unusual Abnormality - Redux (A Lobotomy Corporation x ??? Interactive Quest)

Day 1.24
> Lean against one of the wall and close your eyes to rest and pass the time.
>You lean against the closest wall and close your eyes.

> Start humming to yourself.
>Nod your head to the familiar tune that you hum.
>As you do so, you close your eyes and begin to hum a tune that just seems to come naturally to you.

>consider about what this place is for.
>As you hum, you begin to think about the purpose of this place. They're keeping you in a room, and you think they mentioned something about containment and classification... So maybe they're keeping something here? Alyssa also kept mentioning something about abnormalities so maybe things aren't normal here either? You can only speculate....
>At least they're treating you decently well here so far, wherever this is... You still want that furniture and/or blankets and pillows so you can actually nap...

>Eventually your thoughts are broken by a different kind of alarm from earlier blaring. Opening your eyes, you notice a panel on the wall opposite of you sliding open to reveal a console with a screen above it. On the screen is orange text that reads:

>SYSTEM ERROR: QLIPHOTH MELTDOWN IN PROGRESS: MANUAL VENT REQUIRED TO PREVENT CONTAINMENT FAILURE
>Above that text is a red bar that seems to be ticking down every second, along with a countdown.

Day 1.25
//Last parse until morning.

>Clearly, your music set off the alarm. Stop humming.
>But the ☢ CAUTION!! ☢ sounds make it authentic!

> Check to see if anything changed in the room.
>You glance about. Aside from the new panel, nothing has changed.

> See if you can interact with the panel.
>You walk over to the panel and attempt to interact with it. Tapping on it seems to do nothing, but there's a lot of buttons on the console below it...

>Wonder why there is such a soddy system in place if the containment doors open when the meltdown hits zero.
>You ponder...
>Well, meltdowns are a bad thing. So maybe it's so things in containment can evacuate before things explode...? ...Maybe? Would it still be containment at that point?

> Watch the panel until the timer runs out then check again.
>You step back and watch as the timer ticks down...
>Within moments you hear the room door open. Glancing over, you're surprised to see that it isn't Alyssa.

>Instead, it's a man with a mane of brown hair in a black suit, mounted on his back is what seems to be a coffin. Held in little holders at the man's sides are a pair of strange devices -- one white, and one black -- each inscribed with butterfly-like patterns. They remind you of the black thingamabobs the screaming people earlier dropped when they were panicking at the sight of you.

>He puts on a strained smile, before hastily making his way to the panel, pressing several buttons before a larger one pops out of the console.
>He presses it, and immediately a sound akin to steam being vented is heard as the alarm shuts off. The panel then retracts back into the wall.
>He then takes a deep breath and turns towards you.
>"Uh... Hi..." he speaks, "Your meal should be coming any second now..."

>"Hi there! What's your name?"
>"I thought Alyssa was the only one in this department who could handle Aleph-type stuff?"

That bit made me remember that, at least in the game, all employees take damage while working just by being with the abnormality. Alephs specially are dangerous because of how much it takes to complete a work session with them, the requirements for not getting a meltdown and that the damage they do while work is going on is pretty big, specially for those with lower level EGO. In fact, Aleph level gear or abnormalities do around double to triple damage to Zayin class gear/abnormalities. The opposite is true, in that zayin level stuff does way less damage to higher grade stuff. It's one of the reasons why usually you have a few specific employees deal with specific Alephs due to a combination of gear, stats and maybe some side effect like only one person ever works on Melting Love, while the rest of the department is left completely empty and all clerks killed beforehand.

Day 1.26
>"Hi there! What's your name?"
>You thank him.
>"Archer." he replies.

> "So what caused the meltdown warning?"
>"Sometimes the system malfunctions when too much Enkephalin is being processed into energy at once, causing a sort of negative energy buildup that affects several containment units. If it's not handled, it causes a minor energy leak as well as a short-out of the affected containment unit."

>"I thought Alyssa was the only one in this department who could handle Aleph-type stuff?"
>"She's the only one with ALEPH-rated gear, yes. But unfortunately our captain was busy with another Abnormality when the meltdown occurred, so I was sent instead... At least according to her reports you have yet to try to harm her inside your unit so far, so I'm not too worried..."
>Of course, he still eyes your third leg cautiously despite saying this.
>_

> "Thanks for the heads up, though what kind of stuff do you serve?"
> " Don't worry, I don't attack if not provoked."

>"Wait, energy build-up? Enkephalin? Is this place some kind of reactor?"
>See if you can sense/see whatever this "Enkephalin" is.

Day 1.27
> "Thanks for the heads up, though what kind of stuff do you serve?"
>"Usually run-of-the-mill cafeteria-type stuff until we know your preferences. Though since you specified meat you'll likely get a tray full of it. ...You don't prefer it raw, do you? Because I'm pretty sure it's going to be well-done when it arrives."
>As if on cue, a portion of the wall slides open to reveal a tray with some cooked steak on it.

> " Don't worry, I don't attack if not provoked."
>"...And what, dare I ask, would provoke you...?" he questions as he grabs the tray.

>"Wait, energy build-up? Enkephalin? Is this place some kind of reactor?"
>See if you can sense/see whatever this "Enkephalin" is.
>You attempt to sense whatever this thing is, having no luck.
>"...That's a question better suited for attachment work, but in a way, yes." Archer replies as he sets the tray on the floor in front of you, "We're an energy company, and we create energy by refining a substance known as Enkephalin, which is released by Abnormalites and captured by these containment units."

>"An energy company? That sounds nice. I made and run a nuclear fusion reactor back home... But there was no real demand for the energy, so it was mostly about keeping Old Hell warm and comfy."
>Try the food. Is it good?

Day 1.28
> "Well, if I'm attacked, I'll defend myself."
>"Well that's obvious..." he dryly replies.

>"An energy company? That sounds nice. I made and run a nuclear fusion reactor back home... But there was no real demand for the energy, so it was mostly about keeping Old Hell warm and comfy."
>He blinks.
>"Huh, interesting..."

> Say thank you for the food before dig into it.
>Try the food. Is it good?
>You say thanks before digging in.
>...Well it's nowhere near Orin's cooking but it's okay... A bit more well done than you'd prefer though... Plus it could use more seasoning...

> ESP (Energy Savant Powers) ACTIVATE!!!
>You strike a pose and create a mini-sun in your hand as you feel you skills bursting at the seams. Archer is freaked out by this for some reason.

>"Well that's obvious..." he dryly replies.
>"Well, that's pretty much all there is to it."
>Share your opinions on the food.
>"Honestly, it is a little bit boring here. If you ever need to efficiently dispose of garbage, I can make a reactor that could run on pretty much anything. Keeping it working would be a good way to burn some time."
>"For that matter, a good spellcard duel could be pretty fun, too."

//does this version of Utsuho -really- need food, or she could subsist on fear/worship like gods and various misc. supernatural beings?

//Honestly a good question. I would say she would need food since she's a youkai born from an animal, and it isn't specifically stated that she's one of those youkai that need fear/belief to exist otherwise. I do think it might be possible for her to earn faith, though. However, most of that, if any, would probably go to Yatagarasu itself, since her body is effectively a living shrine for the nuclear crow god.

>"Honestly, it is a little bit boring here. If you ever need to efficiently dispose of garbage, I can make a reactor that could run on pretty much anything. Keeping it working would be a good way to burn some time."
>"I'll keep that in mind."

>"For that matter, a good spellcard duel could be pretty fun, too."
>He tenses up before putting on a forced smile, "Ah yes... the... allegedly nonlethal combat system mentioned in Alyssa's report... Forgive me for being a bit skeptical, but coming from an ALEPH it seems a bit too good to be true..."

> "So other than the food delivery, what else are you doing in this session?"
>"Nothing much other than waiting for the buzzer."

>"What other Aleph Abnormi-thingies are here beside me?"
>"Well, we have three more right now. Nothing There, The Silent Orchestra, and Melting Love... All three of them are pretty nasty from what I've heard."

>He stares, dumbfounded. "Um... What?"
>At that moment the buzzer signaling the end of the session blares across the room.
>"Oh, look at the time. Sorry to cut this short, but I wouldn't want to be disciplined for hanging in here longer than necessary, goodbye!" he says as he hastily exits the room, leaving you all by yourself with only a partially eaten tray of food to keep you company.
