An adventurers life for me: A Warhammer Fantsy 2E quest

[X] Keen Senses
[X] Petty Magic (Hedge)

The Hedge Magic talent would only be needed if we hadn't taken a Speak Arcane Language skill. And Keen Senses is incredibly good value for a starting character, arguably even better than Fearless.

Speaking of, there seems to be a discrepancy in my books. ToC Seer career is different from Career Compendium Seer career. I was wondering why Career Compendium doesn't have a Magic advance for a spellcaster. I'll be using ToC Seer for the future.

The penalty is only applied if we don't know any Arcane Language. Since we do, we can cast Hedge Magic without that extra die. The main advantage is that it gives us a few extra simple spells that we can always use.
Uh, no? Petty Magic(Hedge) is the Talent that actually gives us spells to cast, not the Hedge Magic talent:

"You are a self-taught spellcaster who has figured out how to work magic by trial and error. You can cast Petty Magic (Hedge) spells only without having the Speak Arcane Language skill; the Petty Magic (Hedge) talent is still required. You must roll an extra d10 when casting a spell. This does not add into your Casting Roll, but does count for the purposes of Tzeentch's Curse. Once you learn an Arcane Language, you no longer have to roll the extra die." - page 98 of the core rulebook.

If we have a Speak Arcane Language skill trained, this talent does literally nothing beneficial.
If it was useless, why would it be an option?
Because getting a Speak Arcane Language skill in this Career is an option, one we voted on in a previous step of character creation. Hedge Magic would be useful if we'd taken the Blather skill instead.
