Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 9: Icon’s Idiosyncrasies Incite Irritating Inquisition

Establish a schedule of use where SoPA will remain offline for at least one whole day in every three and to keep it off for heavy social activities at higher Clarity. Ensure that it is active for patrols, or any high risk activities.
Sorry to single you out MrGazzer, but can people voting for this please consider that the underlined section in particular totally fucks us. It's active self sabotage.

Would the people who voted for Mum's the word keep in mind that Spread the word means that ONLY our teammates will be told of our nature and NOT the general public and HOW many problems in Worm were cause by secrets? Missy and Aisha are also candidates we're considering for Exaltation.
And that effectively means telling everyone in the PRT, and from then anyone with sources inside them. Information leaks if it isn't very carefully controlled.

And really, we shouldn't be considering Aisha as an Exaltation candidate unless she changes a whole lot.

Much Ado About SoPA: Whoops!
[x] Write-In: Adminitration Isn't Micro-Management: Keep the Shard of Perfect Administration on, unless Clarity is high. When we're starting to feel the effects of Clarity, and are not immediately threatened, turn the Shard off for a day or two, until we're back down to normal.

The Word Is Out: Dragon and Legend know a lot more about us now, and the former is definitely going to be inquiring more soon - not to mention Chevalier and our new boss, Director Uriel. How do we want to handle things?
[X] Positions of Trust: Tell only the Wards and superiors we trust without reservation. Vista, Chevalier, Miss Militia and Armsmaster come to mind.

Ah, sweet sweet infodump. We should be kicking ourselves for not doing this earlier.

OK, folks... It's like this:

On one hand, we need to keep Clarity down. Too much of this job is social, and we cannot afford being in high Clarity all the time, especially if SoPA makes the Clarity penalty even worse. Do note that "turning it off for social interactions" is a terrible idea - it's not SoPA being on that penalizes us, it's the Clarity it's already given us by that point.

On the other hand, we can't spend most of our time without SoPA. Tactically, it's one of our best assets - and vital for finding Iris once S9 show up.

Now, to be fair, we've managed to keep Clarity down for several arcs without turning off SoPA. So, I suggest the following compromise:

[x] Write-In: Administration Isn't Micro-Management: Keep the Shard of Perfect Administration on, unless Clarity is high. When we're starting to feel the effects of Clarity, and are not immediately threatened, turn the Shard off for a day or two, until we're back down to normal.

OK, I'm thinking of

[ ] Write-In: Mental influence from parahuman-based charm deemed detrimental to optimal Clarity management program and social effectiveness at moderate-high levels. Mental resource conservation also compromised. Solution: maintain charm activation only at zero-low Clarity levels outside critical situations, deactivate as Clarity levels begin impacting reasoning in other scenarios. Addendum: arrange experiment to study second order charm effects on social interaction at zero Clarity levels.
What do people think?

The Word Is Out: Dragon and Legend know a lot more about us now, and the former is definitely going to be inquiring more soon - not to mention Chevalier and our new boss, Director Uriel. How do we want to handle things?
[X] Positions of Trust: Tell only the Wards and superiors we trust without reservation. Vista, Chevalier, Miss Militia and Armsmaster come to mind.

I think getting more people comfortable with "Robotrization" is a good idea and this should give us a relatively safe test environment.

[x] Write-In: Adminitration Isn't Micro-Management: Keep the Shard of Perfect Administration on, unless Clarity is high. When we're starting to feel the effects of Clarity, and are not immediately threatened, turn the Shard off for a day or two, until we're back down to normal.

If we do that let's also make some fake spiderlegs to wear (we wouldn't want to give anyone the ability to work out our downtime).

Not voting for exp, since I don't feel I know what I am voting for. But I'd start to really focus on Medicine, without Panacea there better be someone around that can De-Bonesaw Bonesaw.

"... only through completely over-designing ..." my new favorite phrase xD (also Legend is awesome)

edit:changed vote, to position of trust

Per Doomlord's post on the matter:

] Shard Training Observations: Get people you trust(namely the Wards we're closest to) to keep a record of any differences they notice in our behavior with SoPA on or off, to bring it to our attention so we can figure out a means of adapting to it's adjustments to our behavior or training the charm to be less intrusive, more acceptable. Establish a schedule of use where SoPA will remain offline for at least one whole day in every three and to keep it off for heavy social activities at higher Clarity. Ensure that it is active for patrols, or any high risk activities. Please note the highlighted sections. Those are crippling, and in the case of the schedule, potentially fatal if we miss the S9 bringing Iris into our zone on a day we just happen to have it off.

This vote might very well kill us and it WILL drain our WP constantly!

DO NOT BANDWAGON BECAUSE IT IS THE MOST COMMON VOTE RIGHT NOW!

It was a good idea in theory but in practice it will harm us greatly in the long run.

Not to mention turning SoPA off disables Iris and that will piss him off to no end once we have him back.

[X] People Are People, Bugs Are Bugs: Keep SoPA off for heavy social activities, but otherwise leave it on for all the tactical advantages it yields.

[X] Mum's The Word: Keep this to your superiors only, and reinforce that this is not something you want spread around just yet as you are still figuring things out on your own.

This vote is going to kill us by draining us of Willpower when we need it the most and leaving a gaping vulnerability in our capabilities 1/3 of the time. Also, the benefit really isn't that great compared to the downsides. Can you please read the discussion and reconsider whether or not you actually want to vote for this?

We can still stunt it off at high clarity, which we're not going to get into regularly after we fix our issues from what Gromweld has stated. This is just our standard practice we're determining here.

And if you do have some good reasons that outweigh the massive downsides, can you share it with us? I'd be happy to know if there's something huge I'm missing, but if there isn't the discussion has moved on from this greatly and we really can't afford to keep making these mistakes due to bandwagoning.

For the people voting for "Mum's the Word", remember how upset Vista got when she thought we weren't really Taylor thanks to clarity and our alchemical body? This is a good chance to reassure her and make sure she and the Wards don't get any weird theories. This could also let us try and evaluate them more openly and maybe give them some reasons to accept becoming an Alchemical.

[ ] My Little Controller (Friendship Is OBEY): It wants to help! Keep it on all the time, because it loves us and wants to bring Order to the world.
BAD. This means eating Clarity all the freaking time, and that's going to sabotage us horribly.

[ ] People Are People, Bugs Are Bugs: Keep SoPA off for heavy social activities, but otherwise leave it on for all the tactical advantages it yields.
BAD. We can't mitigate the bad effects of SoPA by turning it off briefly for heavy social activities - it gives us Clarity every time we turn it on, and every 24 hours it stays on. Even if we turn it off for a scene, the Clarity is still there. This is as bad as keeping it on all the time, arguably even worse.

[ ] Bug Hunt: Keep it off unless in a threatening/combat situation. Two alien consciousnesses in our heads is too many.
BAD. Without SoPA, we'll never find Iris, and we're far too vulnerable. This choice will get us killed.

And that's why I recommend the following:

[ ] Write-In: Administration Isn't Micro-Management: Keep the Shard of Perfect Administration on, unless Clarity is high. When we're starting to feel the effects of Clarity, and are not immediately threatened, turn the Shard off for a day or two, until we're back down to normal.

[x] Write-In: Adminitration Isn't Micro-Management: Keep the Shard of Perfect Administration on, unless Clarity is high. When we're starting to feel the effects of Clarity, and are not immediately threatened, turn the Shard off for a day or two, until we're back down to normal.

This pretty much gives us what we need for dealing with SoPA and sets it as our default action. Right now our meditating has helped us figure out exactly what the problem is, we're finally back below 5 clarity so we don't have such a massive negative dice modifier to EVERYTHING, and when we do our Exaltation meditation once we hit Philly Clarity will be that much easier to manage.

[X] Mum's The Word: Keep this to your superiors only, and reinforce that this is not something you want spread around just yet as you are still figuring things out on your own.

I'm all for sharing with the Wards and Protectorate members we already know, but we need to get a handle on what we are first before we share with them. We also need to get an impression of the Philly Wards before we can assume our secrets would be safe with them.

[X] 4 XP - Performance ●○○○○

Acclimating our friends and possible Exalltation candidates to the idea of GLORIOUS ROBOTIFICATION is important, but before we do that we need to finish our meditation stuff first. I think our first day in Philly we need to handle the Exaltation Meditation, then the day after that we should do more Charm Meditation to figure out the rest of our Charms if we don't get back to that in the next update. We're on a timer to gain AT LEAST one more member for our Assembly before the S9 show up, so we need to prioritize figuring out our own bells and whistles and evaluating Exaltation candidates for now.

Looking back at the whol 'BROKEN MINDS' deal, it looks to me like 'over engineering' the shard into an alchemical charm helps us manage the shard psychosis and counteract it's negative effects? If that's the case people like Bitch [communication issues] and Tattletale[has to prove her smarts, even at the cost of screwing over herself and the people around her] would make really good exaltation candidates. Since it looks like letting Autobot convert the shard jail breaks it a bit, those two would likely make exceptionally powerful ALchemicals, and the process would make them much better adjusted individuals once they've meditated and gotten a handle on their charms and exaltation like we're doing.

All we have to do is meditate on our Exaltation as soon as possible and our unnatural Clarity gains and losses will be fixed.

So long as we can interact with people, the 1 Clarity a day is manageable I think.

This is essentially the same as above, with proper stunting in the specific situations.

I made a typo with "Administration". Corrected in my version.

But the write-in negates the need for the stunt.

Regarding Mum's the Word, I do want to let everyone know what we are, but I want to wait until we actually KNOW what we are. Once we've done our meditation and gotten a read on the Philly Wards, we should go full disclosure and tell them everything. But we need to hold off on that until we've gotten all the facts first.

We already know the basics of what we are, we just need to meditate to fix what Autocthon screwed up with our Exaltation. Edit: besides it seems to be a general attitude and we might not tell the wards unless we specifically stunt it into an action.

Just read the update. So, the sub-modules.

I'm thinking,
Vertebral Organization Algorithms - Extend control to vertebrates
Spirit Attunement Generators - A form of mind-reading, like how Khepri caught flashes of people's trigger events (interpreted through her own memories/experiences)
Sapient-Coordinating Relays - Create relays that extend the reach of her powers, like relay bugs except (for) people

If we were at low Clarity, maybe. As we're not, then we should at least wait until we are.

The problem with telling people is that we can't un-tell them, and we can't un-tell the people they've told, or who overheard, or who used precognition to possibly overhear in one of thousands of potential futures.

SB seems to have a bit of an issue with compulsive honesty.
