Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 6: Fatal Fires Flagrantly Fry Frantic Friends, Family

We need a manse. At least one, just sitting there pumping out essence like exhaust from an old beater.

I am leery of the idea that we automatically bank .5 XP gains because it encourages shorter, hastier Creative Works. Voting for Vat Bank uses the existing methods for determining The Will of the Sidereals, so we'll go with that for now. Vats are a while off, anyway, so we'll see how the Voting works first before switching things up further.

Sadly, Manses don't create essence, just direct it.

I wonder what would have happened if we'd taken the Thermionic Orthodoxy Array at chargen (Alchemical version of Chaos-Repelling Pattern). I mean, even the SoPA is pumping out a perceptible amount of essence.

And there's absolutely no way that overwriting the local laws of physics with a basic Charm could ever cause problems!

Actually, maybe it's a good thing we didn't take it....

That's a surprisingly good Alch name, though amusing due to his current lack of... well, yeah.

A fun idea, but a little too on-the-nose. I do have a few ideas for how it'll go down, so I may use parts of this when the time comes. +1 XP!

I'm pretty sure approving everyone in Creation's XP expenditures is way more paperwork than the Sidereals are willing to take on.

Clearly that's what cyberarms are for. Science of Bioenhancement, anyone?

...actually, that sounds like an awesome Lore/Craft Specialization to pick up.

GSP!Danny would be interesting, but probably depressing as all get-out.
I don't see why. I mean, it's only taking a depressed widower who doesn't know how to connect to his teenage daughter and is afraid of losing her and is head of hiring for a worker's union during a depression, sticking a demon in his head and stapling the aforementioned demon and a titan-slaying superweapon onto his soul(s) in order to give him power based on the petulant rage of Creation's biggest losers by casually reshaping his soul in mimicry of alien essence-physiology, because the aforementioned biggest losers want to be let out of their prison so they can take back their Cosmic XBox (and the rest of everything while they're at it too thank you kindly).

That's not depressing at all!

XP banking is one of those ideas that sounds great in theory but only serves to handicap you in practice unless precautions are taken to insure that the banked xp serves an actual function.

In Conquest, the players have a large quantity of XP banked. However, virtually all of that XP is spoken for. 8 XP is set aside for emergency training the Awareness variant of Reflex Sidestep Technique. A further 8 for the Perfect Defense that's available after we learn Solar Counterattack. Then there's the Presence excellency, another dot in Resistance, and Tireless Sentinel Technique.

So as you can see, although we have all that XP banked, it's going to be spent. At no point is there XP just sitting there, waiting.

We don't even know when we'll have access to the vats - it would be foolhardy to just let that XP sit there and do nothing.

So...no. We should not bank XP when we don't even know when we'd have the opportunity to spend it. Let's fill out our core competencies first.

Some Specialty XP expenditures I would support at the next voting opportunity are Lore (Insects ●○○) and/or Investigation (Swarms ●○○). Knowing more about our insects and how we can effectively use them is a good idea to me.

No, please no.

We have 9 dice in lore checks. We do not need a specialty to learn more about insects. We're already one of the foremost experts in the world.

I'm going to do a first, and remind Taylor/people of something -- Taylor's own life is also very, very important.

She might be the most important person in the world. Or at least in the top 5 or 10.

So, I think that it is important that Taylor not go Full Shirou. (You never go Full Shirou.)

I know that we risk our life for worthy causes. Starting with us leading Behemoth away. I know that.

I'm just saying that the idea that nobody has brought up "Save Yourself" as an argument, or even considered it, is probably a bad thing. Because it might decrease Taylor's self-preservation instinct.

The main thing to remember here is: The whole world depends on you. And you can't save anybody if you're dead.

---------------------------------------------------

More thoughts for the day: we ought to pick up a dot of Medicine and Melee. It'll help.

Also -- we really need to sit down and meditate on how our Charms work. And next we get into contact with Iris, we need to make sure we actually talk to him and figure out what it takes to bring an Alchemical Exalt into Earth so that we're not caught unprepared and unsure of what even needs to be defended and so on.

We also need to talk to him about what the requirements and prerequisite qualities a person needs in order to qualify to become an Alchemical. We can't just guess at this shit.

We really need to buckle down and start talking to Iris about this.

Also also -- when we spend time healing, and laid up in bed because we're badly wounded, we should take that time to meditate on our Charms. Really. We can't do anything while laid up wounded. So we might as well think on something highly productive.

The fighting style is called "Fighting Fab", with fab being short for fabrication.

"I'll take 500 of them."

No, but seriously -- if we can have batteries for the thing... That'd be amazing. Because we can just put all the batteries into Elsewhere storage.

...

... I wonder if our Integrated Blahblahblah counts "uncharged batteries" as "something to fix/repair"? Could our Elsewhere storage repair charm thing actually recharge batteries?

Taylor's power suit is out of power.
If Benjy had been focused on us, instead of trying to root out Iris?
Or if we'd had to run to get out of range of his explosion?
We'd probably be dead.

As is, we're gonna be hoofing it for a while with zero protection, while Crippled, and no way to be sure if all the hazards are gone.
We could use that extra dot right about now.
Given that we're at -4 dice penalties with a busted leg, 1 extra dot at a running specialty isn't going to do much of anything for us and we would have died anyway.

We are currently on 12.5 XP; 10.5XP at the end of the last update, and 2 XP from omakes.
At this point there's likely not enough time left in the voting period to get votes for either above the minimum threshold.

Um, which one are you objecting to?
Because we could use more Investigation(Swarms), because we are going to be looking for people in the wreckage.
Using insects.
The lore one. It's ridiculous. We're better than most experts can ever hope to be and it's exceedingly doubtful lives are going to depend on us knowing whatever minutia going from 9 dice to 10 when thinking about insects is going to get us.

I can understand the Investigation(Swarms) and other stuff, but seriously, parts of that list are just wasteful to the extreme.

I'm just glad no one has voted for Thrown (Carrots) yet.

About that...
[X] 2xp - Thrown (Carrots ●○○)
No. of votes: 1
Zechstein

Who knows, the endbringers could be allergic.

I pray to god no one takes that seriously.

...and now I'm imagining Taylor picking up Ill Lily Style and using carrots as her primary weapon.

Damn it.

Garlak has the right of it in that we should meditate but be productive about how we use that time spent meditating.

Off the top of my head, things we can do while meditating using SoPA and IEU:

- Train Medicine/Bureaucracy/Investigation by reading up on an internalized book/CD/DVD
- Craft with our Insects
- Delve into our essence to see how our charms work

Lore (Incest) would allow us to better choose what insects to use for any given situation.
First, wow that's a really unfortunate misspelling.
Know what insects produce the best silk, which insects have senses that would help in such and such a situation, poisons that would help against this brute, etc.
Useful info I'd think for a bug controller.
Second, we have nine dice in lore+intelligence.

I get the feeling people don't understand what a big deal that is. It's huge. Having dice pools of ~10 is more than enough for nearly anything but life or death contested rolls.

We have better things to spend our XP on. It might be useful, sometime, maybe, but it's a waste compared to everything else we need to buy.

[X] Save the Capes
[X] 4xp - Presence ●●●●○
[X] 4xp - Vat Bank

While the Capes are critical and important the world does not exist in a vacuum. More cities getting wrecked in America fucks over the economy even more than it already is. And prioritizing capes to the damaging of masses hurts our appearance in our major recruiting pool and logistical support.

OK, just to hopefully get the bandwagon going for more useful specialty purchases with 2.5 in reserve for when Medicine pops up (which should be soon).

[X] Save The Capes

[X] 4 xp - Presence
[X] 2 xp - Socialize (Swarms ●○○)
[X] 2 xp - Investigation (Swarms ●○○)
[X] 2 xp - Presence (Intimidation ●○○)

I'm not sure people quite get the Exalted dice mechanics. those nine dice? They're all 10 sided, and any roll of a seven or better is counted as a success. Any given bit of bug related crap we would need to roll to test our knowledge would be at about difficulty level two maybe? Anyway, we roll those 9 dice and if we have 2 sevens or better we succeed. For some things having lots of extra successes can give us a critical success, but I'm pretty sure we have enough of a dice pool for any bug crap to be counted as an auto-success.

So yeah, more points into it could be useful, but there are other things we need first.
