Not just that, but it can also get hooked on a detail and spiral out that way. See: her interlude. She has to reset her power during the Leviathan analysis since it goes off on a tangent she doesn't want.
While IEU gives her much more control of exactly how to most effectively phrase her Path wording (as well as the ability to juggle many different Paths at once instead of one or two), ultimately Contessa will do and say whatever her power tells her to in order to accelerate their plan to kill Scion.
-So it's established that Contessa was running multiple PtV instances when talking to Saki.
And still got cockblocked.
That really is a reminder of just how potent Exalts can be.
-Prayer is going to have to decide how to handle Loom after this.
Wonder how her opinions will change when she gets let into the conspiracy.
Probably make her less enthused about Alexandria though.
You appreciate the gesture, and are surprised when he reveals that his carriage actually can fit more than just you; even if the veil-enclosed space appears to be less than four feet long, three feet wide, and four feet high…
"A linear increase in fatigue generation, an exponential increase in effectiveness," Contessa nods curtly, her eyes remaining fixed on the wall where the last portal was opened. "Withdraw it at 11:43 AM."
Hmm.
So she's been running this since at least last night.
Twelve hours or so, since that would have been when Taylor got word of Saki going AWOL.
Looks like the physical effects haven't gotten more tiring even though IEU is more powerful now.
Or because she has a plan to kill everyone in the room?
Because seriously, Taylor being Taylor, she's probably considered it.
And stashed some party favors in TIE.
Actually, this feels like a good time to act like Loom! She and Prayer are friends, right?
The version from that Loom/Chevalier lemon-fic Fate of My Heart, that is; you don't know the real-life version well enough to mimic her in a situation this serious.
Just as you start to set your shoulders back and adopt the body language of a "gracious, effortless, wise beauty, with a vision of the future as bountiful as her chest" (it got better later on when the writer found an editor), the rectangular portal slides open silently on the wall in front of you.
Emotive Esthetics really kills it when she does this.
No wonder it stopped Prayer in her tracks.
And why Contessa picked up on it so quickly; the charm was basically yelling it.
Prayer's normally-stoic expression is showing far more uncertainty than you've seen before, but when she looks at you, you can tell whatever thoughts she was forming come to a halt. Is that… a good thing? Maybe you should say something? Loom is supposed to be enigmatic and mysterious, so…
"Clarity," you breathe, smiling as if you have just imparted the secret wisdom of the world.
"I saw that! No!" Taylor spins around, pointing and glaring at the overly-serious woman. Contessa gives her a look that plainly communicates that she expected her to.
The world around the three of you slides into a blurry greyscale - like in movies and TV shows when they try to show that time is moving slowly - obscuring the forms of the Cauldron capes just enough to be disorienting. Your charm doesn't actually slow time, and you can practically feel Contessa and Doctor Mother both flinch and look around warily, but you're more focused on how Prayer immediately stops looking like she's about to throw Taylor aside and start beating answers out of the older black woman.
The opulent mecha-scorpion waves aside the carriage veil with a flourish of his large, golden-sheathed claw, then bows to the side to present easier access for Prayer to climb inside. "But of course, Administrator," he fawns, then winks with a glint of his eight eyes. "First Prayer of Perfection, do not be afraid; I am more than capable of handling your size."
As the large blue woman stares down your companion incredulously, you nod sagely and bring a hand to your mouth to hide your smile. "Oh, yes. He's got plenty of equipment to handle all three of us."
Actually a serious comment.
Part of the trouble with Cauldron is insulation from the human consequences of their decisions.
Sure, a certain amount of detachment is good, but they went way past overdoing it a long time ago.
They need to be induced to maintain human relationships outside of Cauldron. Just like Alchemicals are encouraged to.
The scowl she gives you as she presses the stasis button on Shatterbird's restraints succinctly communicates the idea that No, that would be dumb. We are not dumb.
Grom's said there won't be any other types of Exalts, no. But if this does get a sequel, it's entirely possible that due to there not being any Primordials left in Creation (or whatever you call the eternal void that was Creation), the Wyld'll come back, humans will re-emerge, the Exaltations will begin being dished out, the fifty Infernal Exaltations will re-establish themselves as pseudo-Primordials and create something not dissimmilar to Creation and the Exalted will develop the tech required to cross over to Earth-Bet via Elsewhere. Y'know. Possibly.

Or if we're very lucky, a healing and awake Autobot will nab them from the Abyss before his link to it closes off. Then he can perform a little refit of his perfect superweapons (even in his death or humiliation, his peers couldn't help messing with his stuff), and issue them forth. Maybe a little more hands-on this time.
Though, remembering that there are (or were) certain protocols where a Solar could assume the mantle of the UCS if He died, I wonder options would be available to Auto. Aside from being Exaltations, they do contain the last vestiges of the Essence of the Incarnae.

Ooh, yeah, that's a point. Also, didn't Autobot save a few Solar, Lunar and Sidereal Exaltations after he made the first batch? And probably a few blanks, if Grom's using the 3e lore with Exigents. They could be useful.

Yep, that was my first thought reading this chapter. This Contessa is funny and knows how to defuse a situation, and also how to endear herself to Saki. Which was exactly what needed to be done right now.
I wouldn't take any joke she does as genuine. If she appears comical, endearing, funny, or human, that's only because she needs to.
I am well aware of that. I'm relatively certain, though, that Oblivion is not the Abyss. The impression I've gotten throughout the various threads as that Oblivion as much a concept as a place; it is a state of nonexistence. As far as I understand, the backstory for the quest is that Oblivion consumed everything in and related to Creation, and Autochthon only survived by cutting his little pocket dimension off from it.
Also something about how Oblivion only still exists because Autochthon still exists, and if he were to die/be consumed by it, it would go away, but that's a bit beyond my knowledge of Exalted lore.
Oblivion is more of... Not a force... a principal or state of the universe. It's not alive, exactly, but Oblivion is easy to anthropomorphize.
Oblivion is basicly a singullarity\black hole. That originally stood in the shadow of Creation and Yu-shan. This is wrapped by the litteral and metaphorical chains that are the Neverborn's regrets (Namely, that they can't have Creation anymore) creating a twisting writhing Labyrinth of fetters.
Oblivion creates the gravity of the Underworld: All things move closer to Oblivion, and never-ever move farther away without performing a miricle. Even Lethe serves Oblivion's goals. Reincarnation condems a soul to die again. Eventually, all souls will become ghosts - even if that process will take trillions if years. Oblivion dosen't care. Oblivion presents itself as an inevitability. Not that Oblivion is patent - Oblivion wants existance destroyed now! - but Oblivion is willing to wait if waiting results in the destruction of everything.
The differance between the Causality-verse and Oblivion is that the Causality-verse is represented by the value "0" where as Oblivion is represented by the value of the null set, litterally "(_)". It's the differance between having no value but expressing information ( "0" ) and the absence of both value and information. ( "(_)", 1+(_)=mu, because like infinity the null set is inoperable. You would have to translate/restate the problem 1+(_) -> 1+0=1 to solve the statement.)
Think of the differance between having an empty basket of apples, and having no basket of apples.
Somewhere between 5th Chaos God and existential threat to all existence.
Fifth chaos god because sheer power puts him at least at emperor level even while asleep and ailing, even though his existence would be directly antithetical to a lot of chaos shenanigans.
Existential threat because his death means everything becomes infinitely worse for everyone, even the Chaos Gods.
Especially the Chaos Gods.
Human-Necron alliance. One worpships Auto because OMNISSIAH. And the other cause the OMNISSIAH is quite capable of tearing up your soul from your failing metal body, put it on a even better metal body (Capable of feeling too!), and be cool about it .
As yet another Chaos bullshit by Imperium and as yet another thing to poke and use scrap code on by Chaos.
Eldar would be mysterious, Tyranids would think "OMNOMNOM", Tau would actually try diplomacy, Necrons...I don't know, frenemies? He is antithetical to Chaos, but alien to pure Materium too.
OTOH, he knows how to stuff souls inside immortal bodies if given materials, so Necrons might actually like him. Which will make Eldar hate him, I guess.
