Alchemical Solutions [Worm/Exalted] Thread 15: Occluded Orb Obsessively Observes Obscene Operations

I'm terrified right now.

Because Grom commented on it being unfortunate we didn't get that dot of Dodge.

And we're carrying a heavily injured Who.

So...that item we get to choose? It needs to be some kind of tinkertech miracle healing device, an EVERYTHING proof one person life support pod, or a very sturdy shield of some kind.

Ah, point of order. You are not choosing it. You are suggesting and Gromweld is ultimately deciding.

He did try to hit Weaver up for IEU, but she was instructed not to give it to anyone.
Hence desperation.
@Gromweld has been planning this since we came to Philly.
That's why we didn't meet Bez despite meeting everyone else; a Tinker pulling a Mannequin would have hit all our alarm bells.

Okay...so Conversion Field Generator, the Fairy Shield that was mentioned before...

Medical cure-all doesn't help us in regards to Grom's hint about Dodge unless it regrows Who's limbs and brings her back to consciousness. Even then we're still carrying her to keep her safe and she's still vulnerable.

Life Support Pod (needs a name): a prototype collapsible (so Taylor was able to schloorp it) pod that can contain and support one adult human. It was made by a tinker when he was named Sphere. Designed to withstand the void of space, nuclear blasts and everything in between. Endbringers could probably crack it open...eventually, but they'd be annoyed as hell for the trouble. The inside is equipped with modern tinker standard life support equipment in case the occupant is critically injured.

I just thought it'd be nifty if something Sphere made ends up helping us out. Of course; the computing hardware has been replaced, the programming done from scratch, and EVERYTHING gone over with a fine tooth comb.

We need to get enough XP to buy the dot of Dodge next time we can vote.

Agreed, but that doesn't help the possible issue with it now. Especially with us needing to keep Who safe.

If people (or Grom) don't like the idea that the life support pod being a re-worked Sphere-made prototype that part can be removed. It still needs a name...

So, I've gone back and tweaked some parts in the Interlude.
- Somehow I forgot to make mentions of what Chevalier sees through his Thinker power. Now those questions are answered.
- Also, forgot that Chevvy was using a piece of Marrow's old bone armor as his go-to for hyper-dense material (the bone that was heavy and dense enough for Marrow to crush herself if she kept it up). Too bad the singularity ate it, now.

Other responses:
Huh. Given Chevalier's secondary power (and the fact that it allowed him to kill Nice Guy), I'd have thought he'd be at least resistant to Who's power...
Sadly, Who's power is just plain ridiculous - if his mind could understand that she was even there, then his Thinker power would help. It's the same thing that allows her to kidnap people and steal cars in canon, as her power erases all traces of information even remotely related to her... including his Thinker power's info. Worth noting is that Nice Guy wasn't a straight-up 'no-sell' either, and required some trickery that will likely get alluded to in the upcoming arc.
Obviously it's an homage to the home-run bat. Made by Sports Mistress, the sporting goods OC tinker I suggested a while back.
"Overkill" is just one of its many modes.
Nope.Weaver knew, she just didn't want to go into details. Info about Autochton's enemies is part of the package in Lore5.
I will note again that Voidtech and Gremlinism is working differently than 2e Exalted in this quest. For reference, it's more like first edition Autochthonians than the 'robo-cancer' of 2e - the creeping, nebulous terror reminiscent of the 1950's American fear of Communism that 1st edition was trying to evoke. It is considerably more subtle and corrosive, making it near impossible to tell something's wrong until it's too late. As for mechanics, I'll give one hint: there is no Voidtech, only Dissonance. Fun!
Also, hey, if Bezalel makes an upload of a bug into a drone, hypothetically, would SOPA be able to seize control of it?
Hmmmmmmmm...
Tungsten: "This isn't even my final form!"
I laughed.

Could you quote the added material? I would go back and read the new version, but the index goes straight from 7.6 to the 7.7 placeholder. :effort:

just read the latest and went: FUUUUUCCCCCCK. we have a high level shaker, a powerful healer, and 2 very powerful movers comprised. the worst part is that uzu and tatsu's pocket dimension is the perfect safehouse to plan from.

It's basically Chevalier seeing the Eye of Autocthon from behind Taylor, and Auto can see him back apparently.

Just realizing this is probably the closest Taylor comes to fighting another hero (besides Bezalel).

Fixed the index, and I've quoted the changed parts below.
Consciously, he focused on various materials and items stored - phased, with his power - within the blade: density of the shard of Marrow's hyper-dense armor stored within it, size of the fifteen-foot wooden pole, shape of his razor-edged 'deadly force' blade, weight of styrofoam.
"Ch-cheva-"

Whirling around at the recognizable, pained gasp, Chevalier gaped in horror at Who's mangled form lying partially underneath the robotic gorilla. The drone's enormous left hand was still wrapped in a pulverizing grip around her right shoulder and tucked-in arm, and its abrupt termination had caused it to fall shoulder-first into her lower legs - pinning them against the wall. All across her body there were massive rents in her armor from where the avian drones had slashed her, but a silverish layering underneath the armor appeared to have remained intact.

He ignored the flickering images behind her, of dark hands reaching out, grasping, tearing at her body and clothes.

"Who!" he exclaimed in growing panic, already looking for a way to pry the Ward loose. "When did you get here?!"
"You're not cleared for that."

Weaver's head whipped around, revealing a face covered in splatters of blood where the tracts of tears had not washed it away. The obsidian spider legs framing her head twitched menacingly, and what dark, graphite-like skin he could see drank in the hallway's pale light.

The look in her narrowed, glowing golden eyes promised that she would have that information from him - willingly or not.

Behind her loomed the wavering image of a massive, incomprehensibly complex mechanical eye. Like every time Chevalier's Thinker power fixated on it, the image somehow turned to regard him directly. Plates and gears the size of continents shifted until the eye narrowed, radiating palpable disdain.

He had faced down Endbringers, but he could still feel dread from time to time.

That...sounds workable, actually. But it ignores a new possibility; CYBER-MECHA ASSAULT AISHA!
But that does depend on her choice.
I personally wouldn't pick a choice that leaves me reliant on other people for maintenance.
If she really wants to go cyborg, she just needs to qualify for an Exaltation, and she can do all the mecha assault she wants.
[Has amusing vision of Aisha coming back from the Cradle in a Warstrider].

*massively sarcastic comment*
Hey.
It doesn't matter how much effort you put into protecting someone if said person doesn't have the mother wit God gave a lemming.

Okay...so Conversion Field Generator, the Fairy Shield that was mentioned before...
Idea: Inertia Canceller
Negates the inertia of people and objects in contact with it, up to a weight limit of ten tons.

-Eye See You.
And Eye Am Not Impressed.
This must make a very interesting part of Chevalier's reports to Uriel and the PRT higher ups.

-This should not be an issue.
Marrow has been shedding armor quality bone for at least ten years; there is no reason why it's not a component of all his backup blades.
Hell, he should have backup samples back at home, and the PRT will have more.
At worst, Marrow left bone shards back in Kyushu when Weaver first went there to meditate.
"Overkill" is just one of its many modes.
Huh.
I guess Weaver grabbed it then; a melee weapon might come in useful here.

Huh.
Best to go look up 1st Edition Alchemicals then; I know nothing about them.
Meantime, I'm voting to pump Marrow's Perception up the first chance we get; she and Taylor are actually designed for handling stuff like that.
More Investigation, as well.

QUESTION
1)What vision did Chevalier see when he looked at old!Marrow? What does he see now?
Because the fact that he didn't recognize her immediately suggests it's changed.

2)Is Auto-kun's look of disdain aimed at Chevalier, or is it aimed at his shard? After all, it is the chunk of Space Whale biology whose perceptions Chevy is piggybacking off of.

3)When Weaver absorbed the Dragonsuit, wouldn't it have given her a look at Dragon's Corona Pollentia analogue?
What did she get from analysing the shard connection?

He does like the 100 page cut off, and it gives Grom as chance to be truely creative with thread names that makes everyone go 'ohnoes!'.
Honestly, that feels a little excessive. He doesn't really need thread titles to make us shit our pants in terror, as the last two updates have demonstrated! Aisha is permanently crippled (unless we do something about it) and very possibly going to die and Riley has several of our other Wards. Shit is bad.

But no, go ahead and salt the wound with cheeky thread titles, s'totally fine. :p

Honestly I think 200 page threads are generally a more fitting length considering how much posting we get. It appears that Grom wants to create new threads to keep the titles up to date.

I have no opinion on thread length. If it makes Gromweld happy to make new threads with funny and/or ominous titles, I'm for it, since it's motivational and likely means more awesome stuff to read.
