I wonder where they are on the Aurane Stupidity Scale?

I'm guessing they're a mid-tier 5 on the ASS.

X] Try to resolve this peacefully, you have a message to deliver nothing more and went nothing with their sort of work
-[X] Threaten them (Intimidate)

-[X] Let the men ready spears and cover each others backs, make it clear to these bandits that they will face not some merchant's crew or whatever they are used to, but brave men in heavy iron

Forgive my ignorance but, what's an Aurane? I've never heard that word before.

An internal joke from DP's now-defunct quest.

Basically, the kind of moron that always makes things difficult for you. Even when he succeeds. Telling you more is simply low-level spoilers because you should read that quest.

No, that it is longer than the whole trilogy of The Lord of the Rings is no excuse for not trying to read it all.

Probably best to ask here for convenience, I would like to leave that thread to sleep until I feel ready to do that epilogue.

I will answer in the morning
So given we won't be back to learn about it in game I had always been curious about the sorcerer lord of Carcosa. What was he? We never really interacted with him at all beyond deciding to leave that area alone but given the references I have to know what you cooked up for his story.

A truly stupid person who believes themselves to be very clever.

The real Aurane rated a 10 on the ASS. In comparison, my idiot little brother who dropped out of high school six weeks before graduating is only a 3 or 4.

Didn't it once took mythic surge aka literal (low level) divine intervention to convince Aurane not to do a stupid decision?

what can even be said to convince them not to fight? id say let nature take its course but im outvoted so
For my part at least it's less about expecting it to work than it is to be able to truthfully say we tried to avoid violence when we get interrogated about all the bodies we'll leave in that alleyway.

I think so, or maybe that was Aeden? My memory fails me once again.
I think it was to stop Aedon from doing something suicidal before Viserys had the chance to use him as a scapegoat.

He was indeed the last of the Yellow Emperors, or at the very least of that dynasty, he was also one who had delved into certain aspects of the Far Realm to maintain his magic in an age where magic was supposed to be dead and merged with the tortured kami of the city of Carcosa... only it was not called Carcosa before and at the same time it was always called Carcosa. :V

Arc 3 Post 9: A Glimpse of Darkness
A Glimpse of Darkness

The Forty-First of Elnu-hamba [Elnu Descendent] Year 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

"Bold of to try to tax the king's right of way," you speak slowly, as much to give your men the chance to ready their spears as for effect. "I shall make my own offer then master thief, get ye gone from my path and I won't be giving the king your head for guesting gift!" Before the last work is past your lips you step forward, daring Fioke to strike the first blow. Even should he manage a lucky blow you trust that Ohun's potion will see you right...

The bandit's jaw clenches so tight you can see it twitch. You wonder if he broke a tooth or bit his tongue. "The king was the one who set us to order the docks, especially from any trash as might wash shore from the east."

"Goatshit," you say almost conversationally and you just keep walking, ready to draw steel with your right and shield Zaia as best you can with the shield in your left.

"Fucker, don't believe us, go right ahead, see what the king has to say to one of yer lot..." He does get out of the way. More of a coward that a fool at the last it seems. The men behind him part of either side, but even so the way is narrow though that any of them could reach out to strike you.

"Bastards behind us are moving back," Tom says and you feel itch between your shoulder blades fade. There's nothing quite as bad as an enemy behind you...

There is a flash of metal and a lunging body.

Unless that is it's mad enemy beside you. You step to the side, letting the blow that had been meant for your neck slide across your armor cutting nothing but your surcoat. Yet as you raise your own sword to strike the enemy's now unprotected side, shouts of anger and alarm ringing all about you you notice something off about the fair haired man... boy really, for he is a a fresh-faced as a page. His eyes hold neither anger or feat, his expression slack and listless, enchanted.

"Hold! Hold! There is some evil will afoot here!" It is a credit to the loyalty your men that they listen and a credit to the sheer shock of the 'Dagger Teeth' that they do not follow in the wake of the mad attack.

Indeed one of the scruffy looking fellows grabs hold of the boy and tries to hold him in place despite his thrashing, cursing and shouting all the while. "He's run mad mad! Help me hold him! Fucking shithead old blood!" Even without the warming of Zaia's freezing beside you to know the last was not an insult, but still you do not expect his next words.

"The boy is royalty!"

As the street begins to clear you wonder what in the name of all the saints in Heaven you had stumbled into here. The boy certainly did not look like royalty, dressed no differently from the others in the bad, though perhaps a touch cleaner and the weapon in his hand of finer make. Your mind goes back to Ohun telling you that adventurous youths sometime join these raiding bands, but royalty...?

He is still struggling to get to you with a chilling single-mindedness, trying to bite the arm of the men holding him back. As that empty gaze meets yours once more you hear as though from the depths of some black pit deeper than the depths of the ocean voice that has nothing of human kind to it, one to which the

"I sEe YoU StrAnGer, FaTLesS ONe Now and foreVEr. I SEE YOU."

For a moment you feel wet clammy fingers around your throat and all the air is stolen from your lungs, then like a shadow passing over the face of the setting sun it is gone and the boy falls limp in the arms of his companion.

Wat do you do?

[] See if Zaia can do something about the boy while you wait for the authorities

[] Move on to the king's hall, this can be one more message you give them

[] Write in

OOC: Given that it was in the middle of a very tense situation and you only caught a glimpse of the boy lunging you should not have caught that he was under some sort of influence. In fact I decided that you would only be able to do that on a crit... and well. So yeah there is a little more than idiots playing idiot games afoot here. Not yet edited.
