If you'd gotten Slice Fate, you would have dodged this enemy!
And hence would probably not have access to The King Stand Alone!

A powerful enemy that we Survive is not actually a bad encounter. The condition is a pain in the ass, but...

Well, after this we really do need to get the ring, so we stop collecting conditions like cards.

Praxis? Praxis.
More seriously, if speculation that the Plenary Armament is associated with the Temple ends up being correct, the ability to stand up to Armaments in battle will be extremely important going forward.
This pick also prevents us from getting ganked by like 20 Outriders/Inner Residents that each just need some time to scale up (correspondence/librarian style)
The Plenary Armament was deployed with Letrizia's Team, where did that came from? Any of the three nations losing an Armament would be a massive deal. The Temple doesn't have an Armament, that's insane.

With our usual luck in rolling for opponents? Nah. We'd meet him anyway.

So we should just abandon protection entirely? If we don't work on improving protection somewhere then of course it will always suck. This is the same problem as with Evening Sky. Finally the immediate concern after this vacation is the Inner Circle guardians. We know they use Soul Evocation not Rank.
Don't bother. The thread has decided by consensus to cripple 33% of our panoply, why should crippling the damage mitigation stat that part of the panoply offers be surprising? Just let people continue to ignore those options and when Hunger dies because he couldn't dodge or soak the blow, you'll be vindicated.

It's by no means certain, but this paragraph makes me think it's alarmingly possible:
"They used to be a big deal in the Republic. The Republic makes a fuss about not recognizing noble titles, but they're an oligarchy whose upper ranks are still filled with the high nobility. The Amarlt family used to command Procyon, the Plenary Armament, but fell from power a few centuries ago. Procyon's actually stationed here in the Voyaging Realm right now!" She went quiet, perhaps remembering that the pilot - likely a friend - could well have betrayed her.
It's stationed where we are, and a family of ex-Inner Residents used to command it... It's very ominous!

The King Stands Alone really is ideal for the temple in many ways.
-We're fighting an entire civilization, this makes being outnumbered less of an issue.
-Our rank is too low, this makes that less of an issue.
-The Temple uses mental/spiritual attacks, see the call and the encampment full of moonstruck. This lets us block that.
-Also gives a small power boost thanks to the stats.

Interesting that Checking up on Letrizia is leading so much. My impression was that Gisena was somewhat more popular, but perhaps Letrizia's recent screentime has changed that!

Or you guys just really want to unlock Super Juggernaut Undead Chimera. But who knows what +Gisena could offer!

I want Dreadnaught but not at the cost of an eye. Since I can't get people to agree on that I'm just going to not get dreadnought until after we've healed the thing.

Speculations about the Temple having an armament was me misreading Amaralt's backstory, real bad. Likelihood of the temple having an actual no-shit Armament is rather low.

Not impossible, shit happens, but it is not the armament of Amaralts at very least.

What happened to Stay Alive Gang?

We are in a relatively safe area to accumulate some needed protection and you all want more attack power? We already unlocked Uttermost and Cut Through for some riduculous offence do we really need to pile more?

I'm neutral on it, I just copied and pasted that part of the vote. May change it later.

Guys Gisena is currently checking out weapons so if we pick her option we should be able to use some of our newly gained loot to secure a plasma blaster or something for her. That'll give her some offensive punch and a ranged attack that isn't just nullity!

How far back? I know you don't always clear the board every update.

Just this update is fine.

It would certainly be interesting, but a fully powered Armament would be almost impossible to defeat even with The King Stands Alone.

[X] The King Stands Alone - 7 Arete
[X] +1 pick below
[X] Check up on Gisena

Odyssial would have had to build a tower taller than Mount Meru for access to this ability.

If he had completed it, he wouldn't have fucking died.

That we can gain access to it with a mere 7 Arete and 1 pick is solely due to the efforts of our patron. I'd take this over Ruinous Valour if I had to choose.

[ ] Forebear's Blade - Ruinous Valor (3 picks)
-[ ] Zweihander

Pretty good but since we're not going to take Einhander, have Cut Through and won't let go of our sword ever anyway, not as good as it could be. Given our circumstances, I'm inclined just to take whatever is most likely to give us the most immediate power in the short term. And that would be:

[X] Fierce Quickening x2
[X] Vigor Itself

Fight the entire Rotspawn army and the Rotbeast for a few more picks, grab the last Vigor Itself and whatever crazy stat boost we get offered after maxing those all out and then 1v1 our way through the Temple like a legend.

That is a sufficient point. I doubt we can help Letrizia very much unless she's getting bullied or something. In which case we hunt them down later either way.

Plus, Gisena is the one coming with you into the Temple! Even if Letrizia gets magic, she still has to pilot or protect Verschlengorge! She's its operator, after all.

Our protection is permanently crippled thanks to Uttermost, and Bearing has nothing on the ridiculous effect of The King Stands Alone on the greater situation, despite costing the same amount of arete and more picks.
Again, I want to mention my opinion that we're STILL going to have to take +Protection options even if they are nerfed, simply because we will not always be able to avoid using that stat, and we can't afford to be so weak in that stat that peer-competitor generalists can casually vaporize us by exploiting the weakness.

It feels like with Cut Through rendering the need for two hands less pertinent, we might want to just wait until Ruling Ring to bother healing it, rather than investing picks in an option that spends a lot of the power on something not too helpful.

I like the idea of The King Stands Alone because I recognized its name as being that of an Evocation we had for Ambition in Most High and picking any ability that makes us more akin to Ulyssian/Odyssial is probably going to be better for us in the long-run given we're playing in the Rihaku omniverse where Odyssial (AKA the Accursed) is numero uno in the absurd 'infinite cardinalities of meta-escalation' power-levels of the setting.

But! I would like to point out we currently have about 4~5 Arete and we could theoretically focus our efforts on generating more Arete to acquire another EFB-equivalent by purchasing the Ruling Ring which only costs about 16 Arete. 7 Arete is slightly more than 40% of that and pushing that much Arete elsewhere might not be the most efficient way of attaining our goal of getting 3 EFBs for each item in our Accretion panoply (Blade, Mantle and Ring). I recall the thread intending on going in that direction after acquiring Cut Through, so we might want to retain some degree of focus for that.

Going to think on what to vote, but I am pretty partial to Ruinous Valor - Zweihander cause I prefer the aesthetic of a swordsman with 2 arms. Even Sekiro (the One-Armed Wolf) had two hands with that prosthetic limb!

That might be enough to push that vote out in front, for me. Also, have you read Unsong? I ask because I recall you saying, 'This is not a coincidence because nothing is ever a coincidence.' Earlier in the thread, which was a common quote in it. And Unsong also featured a character of almost Odyssial-like dedication.
I have and am as fond of Jala as you might expect. 'Someone has to, and no one else will' is probably my favorite Unsong quote, even if I get more mileage out of the coincidence line.
It's a Royal Praxis technique, so better than Hero-Defeating Stance in almost all regards. Its Rank-nullifying ability is absurd and almost impossible to acquire otherwise, as is anti-numerical ability of that consistency and comprehensiveness. It does cost 1 more pick than a Stance would!
The Praxis... really doesn't mess around, huh? 'A dream of fairness, defiant against an uncaring universe.' Those weren't just empty words, not when the first fucking technique we're offered is the ability to stand our ground against long odds and greater powers.
