Hmm, we still need a few people to achieve the beloved quadruple-tie, but it seems approval voting has paid off in dividends!

The fastest way to gain Rank is by almost dying. Which we're spectacularly good at!

An even better reason to pick Stranglethorn! Why spend time accumulating strength to protect yourself, when we all know Progression is found on the edge of a knife?

Once again, approval voting rewards the mild and unobjectionable option. Lucky Strong Sword-Arm!

Now that Sharp-Eye has dropped, resurged and dropped again, I'm more fine withe the vote.

Still want Stranglethorn to win though. People are out here saying the want play a cool mage character while voting for zero magical options before, what? Where were all you when Azure Moon and Philosopher's Wreath were around? Or did seeing the actual magic systems you would get discourage you? Rune-King is basically not only gambling we will find something nice, it commits us to magic even if the options are meh or it forces us to expend 7 more Arete to justify its purchase. And people say Stranglethorn is restrictive.

Stranglethorn is exactly like something we need to succeed at this Temple. More Rank over time, more stats, pushes us over to a playstyle we are already suited to. It has a great balance of short term power and long-term potential and bringing Gisena along makes us even safer. 4-picks seem exponentially harder to come by than other things, so I'd like to take this opportunity while we can. We can still have tow other Defining Advancements, and this is the only one offered to us so far anyway. It makes no sense to holdout for something better. Stranglethorn gives more than enough here.

Perhaps, we need Feats to open up the corresponding Defining advancements?

That's likely it actually. We only got it after Age and Treachery and it's literally that feat made manifest, fitting in well with both Repose and the fight we got it in. Damn, that makes Apex ever neater. C'mon guys, don't you wanna see the other Defining Advancements that might be offered?

Stranglethorn could be good for mitigating the apocryphal curse since it presumably still triggers during time skips and Stranglethorn makes us increasingly unbeatable the longer the timeskip lasts.

Yeah we have to beat something at least as strong as us to get even a chance of a 4 pick and they're most commonly offered by epic monsters that can kill us easily. We nearly died for real this update and only got offered one 4 pick so I don't think they're common at all.

But is it what we need right now?

[] Forebear's Blade - Sovereign (4 picks) - Only one may rule supreme.

The sword is more than just an implement of battle, holding ceremonial and symbolic meaning to all manner of sultan and tsar. As power flows from the tip of a sword, so too can power flow into it. Only one can be king, to wield the Sword of State and all regalia. Render therefore, tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Such is the right of the Lord Hunger.

Defining Advancement - You may currently have no more than three Defining Advancements.

Once an opponent has been meaningfully wounded by the Forebear's Blade, gain the ability to Decree a binding rule that both combatants are forced to obey. Disobeying in either letter or spirit will sunder soul from body, casting them into the Outer Darkness.

Double the value of Charisma +s.

Other abilities can now be reinforced by one's Sovereign Authority, allowing their scope and magnitude to scale upwards depending on one's Charisma.

Double the value of Willpower +s.

Worsen the Doom of the Tyrant, making it more difficult to mitigate by 10%.

Authority: Whether by force or charisma, gain conceptual weight by having other sentient indivduals recognize your authority over them. Gain increases in Rank proportional to the amount and total strength of followers submitting to your rule as their Sovereign. A single, influential individual brought to heel may grant Rank equal to a large mob of peasants.

Oof. Sovereign is my kinda shit.

Basically having more loyal followers mean having more strength in both literal and conceptual sense. If they die in the process, well, that's what burial ceremonies are for.

And for you harem pickers too, I guess.

Edit:

Oof. There was a sudden stake of pain from remember how cool Laughing Vagabond would've been. Imagine if that became a Defining Enhancement of ol' 'Unger

If I have to choose between a harem of waifu and no waifu at all, I will turn state's evidence on Gisena gang in a fucking heartbeat.

Very cool, increasingly motivated to get a Defining Advancement. Hell, we know that some Defining Advancements can be better than others, so we definitely shouldn't take one not even 5 days into our career as a Cursebearer. We've gotta shop around a bit, y'know?

Or we could take 4 picks of Undying Echo, and punch very very hard. Our Defining Advancements remain barren, our fists remain strong.

Apex bros, we are a mere four votes behind Rune King, although there is quite a lot of ground if we want to close in on SORD!

Still, SORD winning in conjunction with Search rather than Push In would be rather sad; we might want to consolidate on what to do pick at some point.

It's interesting that Take / Don't Take Gisena is so contentious. I wonder what the reasoning for that is? Do people just want the +Letrizia and small Arete bonus? That's a small price to pay for Gisena's social skills!
Is it? I imagined it was overwhelmingly for Take given how she's automatically taken with one of the options and adding votes for that plus votes for take surpass don't.

Sword is winning through the powet of approval voting, though. All the other options benefit in some way from Search; Rune King can find another magic system, while both Roots and Apex would like to avoid fights due to a debuff and lack of much power respectively. Only Sword has little reason to socialize.

However, approval voting means that people vote for the non-build vote that goes well with their preferred option and just put Sword in the second slot without much thought for the non-build vote. It's kind of why I'm not liking approval vote right now.

I will honestly be fine with any option except Sharp of Eyes and Stranglethorn. The former because why the fuck would you not want Hunger to have an eye patch and the later because I would prefer an Strength + Agility based build, it simply makes for more interesting fights.

As for search + SORD, I think it works somewhat, we are simply getting more information so we can start SORDING at the right place.
