A light on the frontier:40k Planetary Governor Quest

[X] Tagus should have enough recruits for them
[X] Gather your Allies and assemble a force to retake the planet

Our best and brightest should in our forces, not the Dark Angels. Also, arm's length distance. I don't want any shenanigans, they're Dark Angels.

Turn 86
You decide to let the Dark Angels recruit from the Moran system. As their first class is only 2 dozen, they end up selecting 10 young boys from the military schools, destined to join your elite troops and taking the rest of their recruits from the primitive savages of Tagus.

You decide to gather your forces and call upon local allies to launch an expedition to retake the Shiloh system from the Ferusians. You decide to bring all your elite regiments, along with krieg regiments and your a few fresh Moranian regiments, leaving a large number of infantry troops at home to keep the defenses manned at decent levels. In terms of auxiliaries you also bring your recon troops and a orgyn warriors. Even the Dark Angels Captain and a squad of neophytes join the campaign.

Blackwood's forces send a cruiser and an escort to provide protection and help establish space superiority while Karn Istralis sends 3 freshly trained regiments, trained by your military advisors and an escort class ship to join the effort.

The trip to Shiloh is twice as long as it would be normally as there are several recurring warp squalls that make the Volantean road, the primary stable warp route to the frontier significantly harder to travel. It is made easier as your navigators have started to use the strange red light to help locate themselves relative to the astronomicon.

Emerging on the southeast side of the system, your combined fleet detects a pair of Ferusian warships in orbit. While it seems to take them a few hours to notice your fleet, once they do they attempt to flee the system.

[] Allow them to escape and begin ground operations immediately
[] Pursue and attempt to engage the enemy ships

[X] Pursue and attempt to engage the enemy ships
Eh, they must be running for a reason, let get them!!!!

[X] Pursue and attempt to engage the enemy ships

I can't think of a reason not to pursue. Ground Ops can begin later, downing a couple of ships might also give us some intel about their Empire.

Turn 87
The long-range forward mounted weapons on the allied flotilla target the fleeing Ferusian warships, with cogitators calculating targeting vectors based on the enemies current speed and heading. Based on the calculations you'll have 3 volleys to hit the enemy ships, which are relatively small and making a beeline for the edge of the system.

DC 16

Total roll bonus +5
Martial +5

All 3 volleys hit the enemy ships with the first disabling, the second crippling and the third turning the pair of Xeno ships into nothing but scrap metal and broken alien dreams….

With the enemy space threat decisively dealt with you move to focus on the planet itself, with orbital scans and recon flights revealing 2 main points of interest.

While it appears the mining sites and towns are deserted it looks like the remaining population has been brought as slaves into the desert where they work to dig up a massive Xeno statue buried deep under ground with a massive work pit with only the top of the statue sticking out. Working with shovels and picks and overseen by vicious Ferusians who brutalize any that are not working hard enough.

There also is a large structure sticking out of the desert where the Ferusians appear to be working and have established a camp near. Recon scans also show what appear to be Volanteans among them.

(QM note/Intel bulletin Ferusians are basically the Halo brutes brought into 40k as a minor Xenos empire. Just to give a visualization in your mind of what they look like and fight like)

Recon teams and combat engineers are already on the ground, scouting and establishing a base camp respectively.

Where should we focus on our efforts first

[] the statue mining pit
[] the strange structure
