A Heretek on the Quest for Knowledge [40k] [Complete]

[X]Build Hydroponics. It's time to make your own food. Finally. (Cost: 1 metal. Produces 0.5 rations per day)

[X]Research Ork burning. You've figure out how to eat Orks, indirectly. Maybe you can feed them to your machines, indirectly. (You can make a generator that runs directly on Ork corpses. Significantly more efficient than using hydroponics+promethium refinery)

[X]Build a bio-reycler. Currently, you're constantly loosing viable biomass. That's just inefficient, and it means a lot of work for you. (Cost: 1 metal. You don't need to keep supplying ork corpses to the composter beyond an initial load)

For a perk idea:
LASER screwdriver (75 xp)
With your experience, you can safely adjust the output on handheld lasweapons to produce different effects (cutting torch, intense heat etc).

Was inspired by us using the laspistol in that we could probably get other effects if we wanted. Can replace some of the specialist workshop equipment in a pinch.

Nope, none of those. I mean, they can kill you, but that's not what I meant.
Is it something we picked up before coming to the planet or after? Because the only other thing that comes to mind is the Power Capacitor that we flubbed researching blowing up at some point.

Wait. First of all, how much metal do we have? second, how much time do we have before we have to use the hydroponics again? because I so want fuel.

Sounds good. Accepted. Might change it a little, because 75Xp is kind of awkward.

You, ahh, picked it up after your arrival. That's all I'm going to say, because really, the clues are there.

It's under assets, at the end of the post.

[X]Build Ork composter. Disgusting gloop needs food too, so you'll build a machine to produce that food. (Cost: 1 metal. Doubles the output of Hydroponics, as long as you keep it supplied with Orks)

[X]Build a bio-reycler. Currently, you're constantly loosing viable biomass. That's just inefficient, and it means a lot of work for you. (Cost: 1 metal. You don't need to keep supplying ork corpses to the composter beyond an initial load)

Much as I want fuel for more tools, we have to make infrastructure for everything else before we die of starvation.

Hopefully, we get a buildup of food, then we get to make more fuel for our tools.

Building all three machines will only give us 0.5 rations as we don't have Ork bodies on site. We'll need to spend an action to go get the ones we killed and the longer we wait, the more they're going to decompose and/or be taken away (or eaten) by some other critter.

Did we literally pick up a virus from hugging the server Relic we were on? And maybe the Inquisitor knew that? It would explain why he shot us offhand like that.

@burnote what tech skills are we using to build these?

Craft and Imperial, unless you have a good reason why something else should also apply.

Let's build two plain old hydroponics batches. When we upgrade them to orkoponics batches we'll have enough food surplus to make travel supplies. And then it's time to get power for better tools.

[x] Plan Two For the Goo

-[x] Repeat until we've got two (1 ration per day), so probably two actions.

My guess it's some relic shenanigans. I was worried when we broke the First Golden Rule of Archeoexploration (don't touch tech you know nothing about) and started hugging absolutely stranger box right from the start. That feels a lot like Chaos corruption, which is not unlikely on a triple traitor frakked world. We rolled with it but it's honestly out of character even for our MC. We've got Strong Will though, so it's probably not all that bad?
If not that, then Anna (I'd kill us in her place) or whatever lurks on magrail tunnels we left open.
I rolled for that, but you go lucky, so it's not going to be an issue for a while.
You mean it's so bad that we won't see it coming.

[X] Plan Growing goop

I agree with vsh about it being the tech we picked up. However i think it is more likely that the inquisition is now gunning to bring the remains of the hive down on our heads.

We can make more hydroponics when we need to feed more people.

A little more food for thought. I'm sure we've been left alive on purpose. Inquisitor does not strike me as one of those types who don't check their enemies' bodies for life signs before dumping them in the shaft. One bolt in the head is really not the way to kill Magos with any certainty. Many of them are tough enough to survive and self-repair. So maybe he's doing just what he said? Throwing us in the water to see if we can swim.

[X] Plan Growing goop

@jwolfe_beta
Could you add contingencies in case building hydroponics unit fails?
Also third action can be "Collect some of the Orks you killed day before yesterday to toss in the composter. Or kill a squig or two if there's nothing left."
Also we can slap in unlocking Biologis skill for 20xp, I've got it.

@BurnNote
Home many XP we need to get lowest rank in Biologis? And could you write down how many we've got free? I believe we only have outdated summary as of now.

Unlocking Biologis costs 20 XP, which will give you initiate rank. After that, it takes 50 to get to Techpriest.

XP list:
vsh 25
noliar 5
jwolfe_beta 5
