Update 74: Arrival
The ship smashes back into real space. Good riddance. You're not faint-hearted, but no sane man is truly comfortable in the warp.
The great sensor arrays of the Undying come alive, and project the far off planet on the main view screen. It's bustling with traffic, as expected of a Cathedral world. A large battle fleet collected above the planet and is in the slow process of maneuvering into travel formation. A core of Frateris Templar ships is already formed up, while the motley collection of pilgrim ships drifts around them, trying and failing to hold position.
Within minutes, you get a hail from the Grand Cruiser at the heart of the fleet. With a bit of luck, the guy in charge won't be one of those dreadfully pompous bishops.
"This is Admiral Topaz. Why are you here, servant of the Omnissiah?"
Tall and scarred, half his body covered in religious iconography, he says it like an accusation.
"Peace, John. We all serve the Emperor."
"Or at least try to. There's no forgiveness without failure, and the place has a lot of forgiveness. That's why I brought my flock here. Though from John's… words, they're just racking up more failure."
"Priest Vogel, we are on an open channel. Magos, why are you here?"
You get the feeling his patience is already used up. Given the state of his fleet, you can emphasize.
"I wanna empty my hold of inbreeds, and then question a few priests about theological issues. Proper theology. The Omnissiah."
Before Johnny can snap his teeth, a rather plain man steps into view and puts a hand on his shoulder. A second man, steps into frame behind you and gives you a wave.
"John, perhaps you should check the fleets progress. I will handle this." He turns to someone off-screen, "Would you aid him?"
"But that means missing a discussion on theology! Can't rightly do that. Need some material for my sermons, y'know? I'm sure Johnny can handle it without me. He has to, to command the fleet."
There's a moment of 'Can I get away with shooting him?' before Johnny decides that he probably can't.
"I will see to it" and then he stalks off.
"Paz, I really wish you would stop provoking him."
"Ahh, I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?" the sincerity is undermined by a grin too wide for his face. Mr Bland and Unnamed doesn't seem to mind. He turns towards you. Apparently they've remembered you exist. You speak up before they can get into another diversion.
"I need a landing pad in the nobles' quarters, and a meeting with some in charge. I've got a few jurisdictional issues. Someone's been meddling in Mechanicus business."
"That is a rather sever accusation. I will need some further specifics, but I'll make sure an investigation is started before I leave."
You signal the board crew to send over some the info on your cargo and then pretend that's what he was talking about. Hopefully it's already taken long enough that he won't bother you for more. Blandy doesn't react.
"Hey what about the theological discussion? Don't leave me hanging here!"
Both of you continue to ignore him. You'll talk theology with Emperor-botherers as a last resort. You are spared that, since Johnny comes back before you have to resort to that.
"The fleet has finished. We need to leave now to reach Numa before it falls to Chaos."
[]Now is a long time. The fleet will take it's sweet time to get into motion, you can use that and get ahead of the curve. You'll deal with the problems there yourself. You won't have a chance to kick the nobles out, though.
[]Join up. Sounds like there's already shit going down, you'd rather like to have a fleet to get kicked around for you. You'll just need to make sure they can't take your stuff.
[]Go after. You get to snoop around here for a short time, and then you can swoop in when they're fighting to grab what's yours. Hopefully they don't finish too fast.
