In the end you decided on a strategy that Isaac had come up winters ago. It had allowed your brother to hold an entire hill with a much smaller force for hours, while the rest of you had circled around the enemy.
"Look to my coming on the fifth day, and at dawn, look east"
We didn't get the cavalry charge this chapter, so maybe next purview, we'll see that's how the giants will be taken down.
This time, your voice felt louder, only later would you realize that Lobo had started imitating your brothers magic, pushing your words into the minds of your troops.
Valentino's magic drowned out the fear you had been feeling just moments prior, gifting you clarity and focus.
A Basques without her brother's mind magic forcing her to bravery and strength, would have lost courage at what she was seeing in their faces.
You know, this chapter is really making me want to study Occulmeny. It most fanfics, "mind magic" is literally just look into someone's head, but here it's being used to rally, bolster, and command troops and it's freaking awesome.
"My brothers and sisters, trust the man to your left and the woman to your right; for today there is only the way forward."
To your left and right, men and women were falling back again, losing all ground that you had regained with flesh and bone.
I love that symmetry.
Instead of following the connection, you simply destroyed his mind.
Again, Mind Magic for the win!
It's not really time travel though
The journal's basically a magical Animus complete with skill bleeding.
Now we learn that these seem to be the origins of the first Goblins and Trolls. That they used to be Human but were twisted into something else by some sort of dark magic.
Ok, I actually missed that and one that is horrifying-also even more Tolken-esque-but actually has some unsettling revelations about Goblins, Trolls, and House Elves. Like imagine if we retro-make the glyphs and revert a Goblin to a human. Imagine the social ramifications.
[X] Magic Sense I – You remember feeling the magic of your brothers. There was warmth and familiarity. Underneath your senses there had been something else, waiting to wake. It would allow you to feel that, what is always around and inside you. You have felt Sally-Ann's magic once before, because it was so vibrant and powerful. Now, you will start your journey to develop your ability to sense all magic.
In the memory, it took a combination of Magical Sense and Voices to take down the Centerpiece with Sense being needed to open herself to the magic to see it, Voice being used to trace it to the Centerpiece, and Sense again being used to crush him.
Overall, I think Voice might be stronger because of being esoteric, but Magical Sense just enriches the story more.
Just imagine all the beautiful fluff that Tabula can write of Jacob feeling the warm emotions of people's magic. Compared to insightful/cryptic voices, the whole new realm of descriptions and feelings Jacob gets with Magical Sense is unmatched. It'll bring him closer to not just understanding spells but also people.
Remember how he noticed the slight smile from Mcgonagall as she transfigured dragons? Jacob could see how even after all her years of teaching, she still takes pleasure in the wonders of magic. But with Magical Sense, Jacob could
feel that joy as well. Not just that, but Tracy's raring fighting spirit or Nelly's grateful servitude. Getting closer to knowing a person's magic is like getting closer to knowing their soul.
Hell, once we start animating things like the clay dolphin, we can start to feel their own burgeoning feelings through the magic in it.
