AuthorNCS: Had a great time, here's our thought with spoilers...

Holy crap this game is Persona as hell lol.
Ok ok, that's not exactly correct, more like it had echoes from a ton of previous SMT games and their spin-offs and they all got mashed together, which included both the great and the terrible.
It's technically a sequel to Nocturne and shares the Reason picking theme... but also maybe to FINAL because YHVH is dead dead to the multiverse. The concept of Nahobino (original Japanese: 合一神 Gouitsujin, lit Combined God) where all the gods are locked to a human partner reminded me of Persona. The concept of gods needing Knowledge from humanity reminded me of Observation from IV and Cognition from P5. Ba'al being one of the prime gods defeated by YHVH for him to gain power reminded me of the Bel story in Devil Survivor 1. Tsukiyomi's action is also very close to the Hotsuin family's goal in Devil Survivor 2, trying to preserve their Japan from being deleted. Yakumo is basically Raido Kuzunoha XIV. Shiva said it himself that he was sent by Brahma to destroy this dying universe so he can recreate it, so DD2. Aogami revealed to be Susano-o parallel the New Digital Devil Story.
Gameplay-wise this is the most balanced SMT game to date with top-tier animations. All the demons were balanced around their levels and very few worthless folders. No Null Phys until LV62 with Arahabaki, Phys dampener can't be brought, and with Belphegor, the best resist phys, locked to a side quest, all the bosses before that with deadly Physical attack will kick your ass. I don't know how doable a min-leveling run is in this game but it will be amazing if it can be done.
(Although it was a mistake putting Shiva before the final bosses because you will over-level and the final boss will become a wimp.)
DLC rating: Artemis is broken, Cleopatra is broken, and Mephisto's ok... but you don't need him, use Alice or just grind until you can fuse Beelzebub.
Those are great, I love them to death.
Now the terrible. And they are irritating.
This game is actually very large, but it feels small because there are only 4 maps (+2 dungeons, one extremely annoying, and one extremely simple). This game feels like a testing ground for an even bigger open-world SMT game. I will not be surprised if V gets a sequel with a world that's actually complete.
Characters... oh my poor writer soul. It's like they took the hash criticism from IV where 90% complained the characters are annoying and the plot is too much like Persona, and just throw their hands up.
Tao, who the hell are you? I don't know you and I don't think the silent MC was familiar with you before this game. Your death has zero impact. No, I don't care that you are the saint of this world.
Sahori, AKA, Persona Shadow self going rampage done extremely poorly. I probably kill her myself since she caused a ton of bystander deaths.
Yuzuru... I only care about you because Hayataro is voiced by Jouji Nakata.
Ichiro is just cringed. I get what they are going for but... no. His divorce plot has zero impact other than telling the audience that he sucks at picking sides, and him going full edgy zealot was so sudden I couldn't relate.
Miyazu... You had a deadly disease? Which part of the dialogue did I miss? If you were so sick that even the most powerful of Egyptian gods can't cure you then why are you off the bed and going to school? Your plot reads like you secretly trolled Khonsu so he kills himself willingly to make you immortal.
Tsukiyomi's also weird, it's like he was 100% behind protecting Japan, but when the opportunity came he turned 180, and now he is all about restoring the age of the Japanese gods.
Lucifer in this game... I want crossdressing schemer back.
DLC Fiends are also not great. Lost a lot of comically serious moments, so it feels like a boring fanfic recreation of them from Nocturne.
All these character problems are all from the bad parts of older SMT games... Where characters are effectively Alignment bots. They can have a semblance of personalities, but will all go illogically insane for either Law, Neutral, or Chaos at a drop of a hat. SMT purist b*tch about Persona spinoff having "anime" plot (that's a strawman criticism anyway) but I think they are just salty that the mainline can't ever seem to generate reliable characters on the same level as the spinoffs.
All these characters aren't even that bad. A few hangouts or side quests would've made them more serviceable...
Music's also kinda mah personally. Didn't vibe with any track other than the Fiend remix and Shiva theme.
The best SMT game is still Devil Survivor 1&2 unfortunately. Where the best of both worlds was achieved...
Artist741: If you don't mind my 2 cents on the demon design of this game.
There are a bunch of great demons added to this game. No complaint about almost all of them (in fact I have a few new favorites) other than Abdiel's fallen form, which was way too in your face and might have been a resource-saving design.
The problem I have is that this game is very faithful to Kaneko's art style so when stuff stickers out, IT REALLY STICKS OUT.
Tsukiyomi's boss form has elements from Dis Astranagant... Lucifer's final boss form is... I guess it can be something he could've done but overall it's a bit too busy to fit in.
I need to wait for the design work, but I still don't know why MC had flowing long hair other than to show off their physics engine.
Tao's goddess form is pretty weak too. I guess she's supposed to be Amaterasu... but it wasn't? I don't know man.
