Rescue work maybe, but with 60-70% of the Earth's surface being hostile territory you definitely don't send out a scout unarmed.
By some philosophies, don't you make sure a scout is unarmed, with no more than a knife? And, the knife is mostly used as a tool? The aim is to get in there, get the info, get out, and really, if at all possible, the enemy shouldn't know they've been there?

Supercar is highly mobile in all environments, and should make full use of that mobility. Possibly Grace could similarly make a lot of use of mobility?

EDIT:

Tried to find some Supercar specifications. Looks like capable of Mach 3 (but not Mach 4), and height-wise reaching the Thermosphere (where the ISS, etc. orbits), but may not be capable of achieving orbit. Sub-orbital 'hops' might take anywhere on the planet in about an hour's flight, though. Top ground speed (on a good surface, more than 150mph?), water surface, or underwater speeds are unclear. Nor is the maximum safe and ultimate depths. Sneaking around on/in sea bottom cover, in shallows, should be quite feasible. Also, powering-out from underwater into a steep flying climb, and VTOL, shouldn't be forgotten.

Probably best not to forget the 'Clear-Vu' navigation systems, that can see through fog and smoke.

About 3tonnes, fully-loaded, less than 28' long. Basically, a tiny, tiny, thing compared to most shipgirls. Really advanced fuel, though, so how would that translate into shipgirl diet?

That's in a land-based environment where stealth is actually a feasible approach, and enemies are limited to line-of-sight for attacking you. The fastest shipgirl in the world still has no hope of outrunning aircraft, and there's nowhere to hide on the ocean except under it - you know, the part that's swarming with Abyssals. You go on a recon mission in Abyssal-occupied waters, you go loaded for battle and expecting trouble. Or you don't come back.

:thinks: But they didn't make an underwater repair ship...
I mean, floating drydocks come closest to that.

Which of course raises the question of how far the refits for submarines have gotten (which honestly is something I'm still considering in general, with how far shipgirl technology has advanced.)

TBH, ingame subs are a requirement for a handful of maps, quests, and expeditions ... and are basically completionist bait outside of that. They're the most fragile class in the game and don't contribute enough offensively to make up for it. Basically if the Abyssals on the map have any ASW capability at all, your subgirls are likely to get mauled. Fighting Abyssal subs tend to be equally binary; if your ships are OASW-capable most enemy subs will die before they get a shot off.

Not for nothing do subs have a fanon reputation as hardcore masochists.

Propulsion could be ionic or magnetohydrodynamic. Solid state engines, use power to generate thrust directly from environmental air or water- seems like a good fit.

I'd recommend biomimetic screws to solid state systems, they'd look very fitting with blades that vaguely resemble intricate fins or shark jaws. MHD has an issue where it is significantly less efficient and produces a very easily detectable magnetic signature. There are also new AI optimized screws that look like mobius strips, but I think they have some kind of tradeoff to them

Unfinished sentence!
"Black sclera on your navigation and gunsight eyes, I've noticed." Fowler said.

"Does that mean anything?" Grace asked.
Dunno, but it's hot. :V

(for legal reasons this is a joke)

Also I like how the author just up and confirmed "no, this is not an evolutionary or random thing, yes, someone is DESIGNING the Bmints, and not just Grace, someone or something has a PLAN (even if it's not a great naval engineer)", which kind of seems like an obvious assumption but also kind of seems like a terrible assumption. Now we know :V

If hotness is an important spec for the Batoidea-class supercarrier design, why doesn't she have black sclera on her human eyes? :V

I like the way you assume that there's a plan worthy of all-caps :V

The whole ship girl getting other women preggo reminds me of belated battleships where Washington gets a women knocked up and then herself.

It seems like there is a lot of ship girls that are the same class with over 300 in the Brooklyn class alone seems weird.

I have to ask with this might have been answered,
But if a guy gets turned into a ship girl, are they full girl...or do the get the penis also or do them become or do they gets both parts at the same Time?

Do the natraul born get a choice for what type of ship they become when the change somehow?
Do they self summon or do they have to go though a summoning to become active?
Some stories they have to be summoned but some can become active by stress.

I know that the girls do not age when they become active so the poor destroyers get stuck being very young looking.....so that means you not lewd the class or smaller types or the fans on the messages will rip up you apart.

This is very different fun story with a different type of SI you could say of being a teen, there is a couple others I have read, both worm crossovers and one where the girl is a pre-dread battleship named Kansas.

Natural borns do not "merge" with a historical shipgirl like in most other stories; they are instead new ships made from appropriate classes.
Consider that IRL we only got to AH-20 (and I realized that I put that code backwards in ch. 4.)

A) Trans women are considered never to have been men. And the only AMAB people who become shipgirls are trans girls/women.
B) Even for cis natural borns, it depends on what she is comfortable having down there. That varies from person to person. And "both" is an option.
C) What's in someone's pants is irrelevant to whether or not they're a "full" girl/woman.
D) Oh boy did this get discussed. Most of the post-chapter-6 discussion was on this topic.

:3
It was literally only one sentence (so far) so it's not surprising everyone missed it.

Hmm, perhaps they Age, but as long as the ship is maintained, they don't have an upper lifespan?

Alternatively, they could eventually get enough refits to become modern destroyers. Modern destroyers are about the size of ww2 cruisers so I expect that they would at least look old enough to be in college or uni rather than being stuck looking like a high-schooler for centuries.

So the heart of the ship has to be carried in the keel and the bridge, right? Guns, armor, and engines all get replaced. So I bet expansions are possible.

We'll do it like from the depths adventure mode! Just build a bigger ship around your ship, until you have a raft, inside a corvette, inside a frigate, inside a destroyer, inside a cruiser, inside a monstrosity of a flying battleship
Or you build a new ship to whatever spec the old ship wants, name it after the old one and ritually transfer the ships bell, plaque and crew.

Cassin and Downes got away with being blown up, then scrapped and rebuilt using salvaged machinery and steel, with the same names and hull numbers. So probably more than just transferring the bell, plaques, and crew.

Guess that depends where the consciousness sits.

ShipGirls can also be a vessel of Transhumanism, turns out.

I was also thinking if you save enough of the old hull you might have a way of potentially surging numbers by awakening a new shipgirl in the old hull at a later point.
