I wouldn't be surprised to find many shipgirls with a tab A just want to pee standing up.
One must agree this has certain utility for extended deployments.
(I invite anyone to imagine having to squat while skating. Now imagine doing it on a surface that is in constant motion.)

One further wonders if the demographic distribution of such capability tracks equally over submarines as well as surface vessels.

The impression I got is that all shipgirls get a slot B, some also get a tab A, and only some shipgirls can use them for something other than the recreational insertion of tab A into slot B.

There are internal ship components that correspond to tab A and slot B, but nobody is quite sure what any of it actually does, though you can identify the recreational only version because it's not as complex... and none of it matches what Our Hero has.

I suspect that desiring children or not and the gender of the person the shipgirl in question wants to have kids with impacts what equipment is installed.
We've covered some of these before. Not all shipgirls have female parts. There are AFAB shipgirls in this group, too.

All the parts are fully functional. And only exist on the "girl" layer. And, as has been indicated in my WOG posts, all shipgirls are lesbians.

And no more detail will be provided as the main character is decidedly underage I'm guessing. Even if she has a a different set-up that shall remain unelaborated on for the aforementioned reason.

I'm just going to randomly point out here that, intentional or not, dropping the photos on her friends and then cutting off the connection without elaborating was a masterful bit of trolling on Grace's part.

Maybe I just missed it, but - what's "natural born", and what's the alternative, in this version of the setting? Most of the Kancolle stuff I've seen exclusively has shipgirls being summoned.

Canonically, Kancolle-as-the-game has summons and "drop ships"
Summons are where humans do a thing, input resources, and get a shipgirl out.
"Drop ships" sometimes happen after battles. No explanation is given, though sometime, for a boss battle, this may be the ship being purified.

Anyway, ignore all that. See the "disregard for canon mechanics" tag up top.
In this case, we have "Manifested" or "Historical" shipgirls, who just kinda... show up. In works where summoning is a thing, this would be referred to as "self-summon." But I didn't want to figure out how people came up with the summoning rituals. This also consumes the hull, so at least the museum shops lent some evidence to convincing people back in the day. None of these are happening today.
We also have natural-born shipgirls, where you take a woman and add thousands of tons of steel until done. "Woke up, am boat. I'm considering selling the rights to Disney."

Also, progress report: writing the sea trials is slow. And also I have three other projects on the table right now.

Which raises the question which US shipgirl is most like a Disney Princess.
There are literally thousands and the role probably goes to some biologist who turned into a hospital ship and never took even a Civilian Emergency Response course and spends her days in the woods having birds land on her.

Of the historical shipgirls... honestly no clue. Probably the one no one expects. I feel like seaplane tender might be a good starting class, but I also feel like it'd be funnier if it's again a ship that no one would expect, not even her sisters.

Wisconsin's the one who strikes me as the most likely to be a Disney Princess.
See, I figure there's one of two ways the question will be answered:

Either everyone agrees on one girl, no question (maybe a few quibbles on which is "most likely" if there are several candidates of more or less equal worthiness).

Or there will be blood. Or possibly laser tag.

Because, and I must note: nowadays, the term Disney princess includes such worthies as Mulan, Leia and Merida.

The official USN Disney Princess should be able to outdrink and outfight any and all extant Disney Princesses except maybe Ariel (and that only out of deference to King Triton - TF 38 learned the hard way, you shouldn't pick a fight with Neptune while at sea).

(That said, there's probably at least one natural born who's been a Disney cast member at some point.)

Actually, Brainwave:

The Official USN Disney Princess is DD-579.

That'd be miss William D. Porter, the unluckiest ship in the WW2 USN.

it's really cool to see a KC fic with an explicitly trans protagonist! there are... not nearly as many of those as i hoped. I'm glad that Grace got to interact with her friends, she's had a very busy and stressful time of it.

the direction you're going with Grace's version of MSSB is really interesting, too. the thought of someone optimizing a perfect bullet, and then just dusting their hands off and strolling from the room, as pleased as can be, saying; alright, job done! just, uh. make a gun that fires that, yeah? damn, I'm the best engineer working on this entire project. in the whole world, maybe.

just—delightful. impeccable. thank you very much for that mental image. it's going to stick with me for a while.

that's where all of her faries went, they're the engineering team; now i get it!!
