While I agree with BadRoad, I feel that this way lies a rather serious derail, and should take it to the To Aru general thread, if such exists.

Perhaps Dragon Killer Girl attacks Imagine Breaker, as it appears as a Dragon...

Which would need Panda Girl, or possibly someone/something else, to remove Touma's right hand/lower arm... ... Bit off by an Arne or other bird?

It does. Look at some of my posts. A link should be somewhere in one...

@pink - LV6 Mikoto = Inhuman. Why not LV6 Accel the same? Goodnight.

Is canon that the only thing that he cannot use his power on is air because he needs to breathe. And he was inhuman way beyond that point, since he got so used to use his powers for killing and defence he later couldn't use them for anything else.

Dunno if gas or smoke would work or not. But basicaly it should.

Also a virus due to being too small should work too.

I was under the impression that Accelerator's attempt at creating plasma during his squabble with Touma involved him compressing the air. Which means he is perfectly capable of using his power to affect the air.

Unless handed an automatic I Win by plot fiat, Accelerator should not be able to do a thing about having the room filled with carbon monoxide or colourless, odourless nerve gas. Or being poisoned through his food and drink. Or having Kuroko teleport knockout drugs into his veins. Or indeed getting exposed to a number of disease vectors. An omni-applicable 360-coverage projectile shield that he can somehow keep up even in his sleep is one thing, but once you get to the point of saying "well he's changing the vectors of viruses in his bloodstream", you might as well go ahead and admit that he doesn't have vector control powers, he has I Just Win powers that are vaguely and ambiguously vector-themed.

Uhh. No? ... Volume 20, when he's fighting Vodyanoy or whatever that Russian Water Mage's name is, there's a remark like:

When he reflected teleportation powers, a strange phenomenon occurred in the 3 dimensional world, but this had felt entirely different.

So he can reflect teleportation. But everything else is fine...

So he can reflect teleportation.
Which, as I am saying, is not Vector Control. It's bullshit I Just Win By Fiat powers. Teleportation, rather by definition, is not a vector. A vector has a direction. Teleportation does not; it is a discontinuity in space. And even given required secondary powers to do 10-dimensional maths like Kuroko apparently does, Accelerator's powers do not have anything to do with teleportation, and thus he would not have the 10d math-crunching brain necessary to block it.

I believe the idea about how it's meant to work is that the teleported object is actually moving through higher dimensional spaces before re-entering normal space. Like, to use a simple metaphor, lifting a pencil off a piece of paper and laying it down elsewhere on the paper would, to a 2-d creature living on the paper, make it look like the pencil teleported. So, yeah, I'm actually fine with the idea that a bubble shield which stops things entering it also stops a higher dimensional object.

However, that's a diversion from your main point - which is namely that Accelerator was built for "Only Blando can beat him" - and thus his powers are pretty much thinly disguised "I Win Except Against Antimagic Punches". Which is a pretty accurate point, and exactly why the author decided to nerf the hell out of him when he decided to make him a protagonist.

In fairness he's not immune to magic, particularly voodoo dolls or such. That said, he is essentially invincible, which is why his story is mostly focused on redemption, morality and all that.

In fairness he's not immune to magic, particularly voodoo dolls or such.
If I recall right, he can get about that issue. Mainly via making the magic target something in his vicinity, or just make him vomit blood or sweat madly instead of some worse condition if he tries to use magic as an Esper.

Not to defend that idea, but "magic bullshit with a vague [science] aesthetic" is basically what being above Level 5 means. The whole Esper project exists to create artificial angels, to the point that Misaka transformed partway into an Egyptian goddess when they hooked her up to the Network to bootstrap her to Level 5.5. Accelerator was toeing the line of a Level 5 even before he started busting out AIM-field angel wings, so it's not totally implausible to me that he'd have conceptual bullshit verging on the Touhou-esque.

Okay... Now that we're just adding things to talk about instead of correcting possible misconceptions... Let's move here?:

A certain Magical rail-gun (or was that) Scientific Index idea/recommendation thread

@Revlid - There are limits. EM and vectors are really close... Okay, closer than most other powers?... to matter manipulation and dimensional warping and stuff, respectively, and makes easier rationalization of near-magic bullshit, but something like Aero Hand, Mental Out, or Flamethrower, doesn't.

And anything about Misaka5.5 isn't a good example, anyway, as it's related to the Network, which is sort of Magical and relates to the Imaginary District, screwing with attempt to generalize to any normal Lv5.5s.

I have more thoughts if you want. Either reply in the Idea Thread or Convo me if you want more explanations...

I sort of doubt the Imaginary District and such is going to show up in this fic - it simply is to far up the 'high level' plot, where this seems to be firmly grounded in the 'day to day' reality of Academy City.

And if it does show up, Yui will not overly care. Her concerns will be her immediate survival, and all other worries will be considred only after the first is dealt with.

Well, you know, maybe if Abe Eiko gets super mega lost, she might wind up in the imaginary district.

Sumiko: "Where the hell are we? I swear, this is the last time I let you navigate!"

Eiko: "I'd like to see you do better!"

Sumiko: "You would be amazed at how rarely I get lost and wind up in... whatever the hell this place is!"

On that note, we don't have a rumor-tracker character like Saten, right? ... Or it's a part of a character, but we haven't seen it yet...

I hope Saten will make an appearance. I think she would fit right in, as the One Sane Woman. The fact that she knows and is friends with the original would only add to potential humor value.

Since I understand this story is a planned story, we can only wait and see.

Entry 28
Entry 28

"How?" the girl who is bad at dressing like a panda says. She is not completing her sentences properly. Perhaps it is shock.

"I tried to talk to you," Kamijou Touma says.

She seems surprised. She is also covered in blood, just like me. Kamijou Touma is not covered in blood. We are not sure how he managed it when he was the one who punched the bird. That does not seem very fair to me. I do not think the other girl thinks it is fair either.

"Wh-what happened?" she says, speaking in a manner similar to Koizumi Kyoko. Perhaps she is related. The Network considers this another reason to be wary around Koizumi Kyoko. "Y-you just punched… p-punched Arne and she exploded and… wh-what did you do to manage that?"

"'Oh,' Misaka says, realisation dawning," I say as realisation dawns. "'You are now a red panda. Despite the name, the red panda is not a close relative of the giant panda. It is closer related to weasels, racoons and skunks,' she clarifies informatively," I say informatively, providing clarification.

This is a useful fact for her to know. That may have made it harder for her to prepare her costume. Taxonomic confusion is problematic. Although if she was trying to dress up as a red panda, she should have brought a fluffy tail. The Network agrees that the fluffy tail of the red panda is its cutest feature.

"What?" says Kamijou Touma. He seems surprised at the news that the red panda is not related to the giant panda. He is clearly not well informed about taxonomy, for all his other virtues.

"What the hell is she talking about!?" the red panda girl says. "You! Railgun copy! Stop not making s-sense!"

"'I am not making this up. It is true,' Misaka says, feeling hurt that people believe that she is lying about the nature of the red panda," I say. It is very hurtful. And confusing. Why does no one believe me? The Network does not understand why anyone would reject useful information. We consider everyone we know. We like to learn. We also are aware that the scientists and the Accelerator liked learning things, especially new ways that we could die. Therefore we can conclude that a love of learning is a general human trait.

The jaw of the red panda girl tenses. She is angry, like the scientists when things did not go as planned.

***

Or when the coffee machine was not working. We heard their complaints about that. They would frequently complain over open channels about how Academy City could not develop a coffee machine which worked all the time. They considered it a mystery how some of the funding which had been put into mastering human cloning had not been diverted towards superior means of making coffee.

One of them proposed using the Testament machine to programme Misaka-19999 to make coffee, so they could have better non-instant coffee all the way through the experiments. The scientists argued that this would increase morale and make them more productive workers. This proposal was under consideration when the sequence was terminated. We are unclear as to whether the Accelerator would have also been allowed Misaka-19999's coffee under this model.

Misaka-11111 is now complaining at me that this is not relevant to her diary. I have pointed out that I am currently writing and I will write what I want to.

***

Misaka-10901's lack of regard for my current peril is once again noted. Here I am, with the red panda girl angry like a scientist is angry and she is talking about coffee.

There is an explosion in the background. The original is presumably still fighting against the girl with the sword. The original is probably having fun. She is very immature like that. She believes that violence is enjoyable. She will be fine, of course, but I do not want her to get in trouble just because she won.

I pay attention to the red panda girl again.

"I will not be taken by the d-dogs of Academy City!" she shouts, blood dripping from her once-black clothing. "I w-won't let them m-make me a lab r-rat!"

"No one is going to be hurt," Kamijou Touma says quickly. "Get out of here! Run away! I'm not trying to-"

"Shut up, you! You might be able to beat Arne, but I… I… I have more power!" She waves her bloody knife around. "You'll see! Just you wait!"

Kamijou Touma shakes his head. "I'm sorry about this," he says. He raises his fist. "But... grit your t… oh."

He says this because Misaka-10032 has managed to sneak up on the red panda girl and grabbed her in an arm lock. She is subjugating her as per her training. She is also wearing a cat mask, which is not as per our training. The red panda girl screams, but then becomes unconscious.

"'Looks like like she just had a shocking experience,' Misaka says, and giggles," I say, giggling.

"Um. Wait, what just happened? Where did she come from?" Kamijou Touma says.

I look at him. He is quite inattentive. "'She was hiding behind that potted plant', Misaka says," I say.

"Why didn't you say you had help?" he asks.

"'Because it was an ambush. If I told people, it would not work,' Misaka points out," I point out.

My sister approaches. She has blood on her too from where she held onto the red panda girl, but she was prepared and is wearing a raincoat. She removes the coat, and drops it. Now she is clean. It is very unfair. She is still wearing her cat mask, although she is wearing her goggles over the top of the mask. That is just common sense. It would not work if she tried to wear the mask over the goggles. It would not fit on her face.

"'You took your time,' Misaka-11111 says critically," I tell Misaka-10032 critically.

"'I had to find a mask that was suitable,' Misaka-10032 tells Misaka-11111 out loud for the benefit of Kamijou Touma," she tells me out loud.

"'Was the mask that important?' Misaka-11111 asks?" I ask

"'It is a mask of a cat. Yes, it is important,' Misaka-10032 says," she says.

"'That is true. Cats are important,' Misaka-11111 agrees," I agree. " 'However so is not dying.' she adds," I add.

'You were not in immediate danger,' Misaka-10032 points out," she says unfairly. " 'Apart from the parts where you were, but I was not close enough at those points,' she admits," she admits.

"Uh," Kamijou Touma says, massaging the back of his neck. "I don't… you know it's really strange to listen to two of you talking to each other, right?"

"'Hello again,' says Misaka-10032, shifting to stand closer to Kamijou Touma," says Misaka-10032. "'It is me, Misaka-10032. You have managed to keep my complaining and forgetful little sister safe,' she says thankfully," she says.

'I am neither complaining nor forgetful,' Misaka-11111 says indignantly,' I lie.

***

She did not actually narrate that she lied, but I have corrected her entry for factual accuracy. She claimed that she was saying it truthfully, but that is a lie.

***

I am being bullied by Misaka-10901. She is very cruel.

"So… what's going to happen to her?" Kamijou Touma asks, looking down at the red panda girl.

"'I do not know,' Misaka-11111 says," I say.

The wall then explodes. Again. There is dust everywhere. I cannot see what is going on. Walls should stop doing that. Misaka-10032 agrees. Walls are meant to be solid.

Something hot and bright flashes before my eyes. Through the dust, I see the sword girl grab the red panda girl and then fly off, pulled by her sword. The sword is on fire, but the flames are going forwards, not backwards despite her direction of movement. She explodes out through the outer wall, carrying the red panda girl. Presumably there is some advanced rocket thruster within the sword, although I do not know where it fits. It is possible that they have designed some previously-theoretical system that does not involve reaction-based thrust.

It must be very advanced.

"Get back here!" Misaka Mikoto shouts, running through the first of the two new holes in the wall. "Don't run away!" She sags down, breathing deeply. "I was going to win!" she adds.

The Network is also upset. Now we will never find out what kind of bird it was.

"'Hello, Misaka Mikoto. It is good to see you again,' says Misaka-10032," says Misaka-10032. "'I have saved the life of Misaka-11111 and Kamijou Touma," she adds," she adds.

"'That is a questionable statement,' Misaka-11111 says," I say.

"'No it is not,' Misaka-10032 contradicts Misaka-11111," she contradicts me.

"Oh." Misaka Mikoto looks up. "Another one of you."

"Yeah. I think I'm seeing triple," Kamijou Touma says.

That is serious. He may have a concussion. Misaka-10032 and I agree that he needs immediate medical assistance.

"Shut up, you," Misaka Mikoto says. "Not funny."

Misaka Mikoto is correct. Concussions are not funny.

"And," she adds, looking around, "what the hell happened here?" She stares at me. "You're… you're covered in blood! Are you hurt? There's blood all over the place! What the hell?"

"'It is not my blood,' Misaka-11111 says defensively," I say. "'Do not worry, big sister. I am covered in blood because Kamijou Touma punched the giant gold bird that might have been a raven but might have been another kind of bird and then it exploded and covered everything,' she adds informatively and concisely, removing all possible confusion," I explain.

For some reason that doesn't work. "Someday I'm going to have to explain to you lot about how your descriptions aren't accurate," Misaka Mikoto says, shaking her head. "Well… why isn't he covered in blood?"

Kamijou Touma shrugs. "Magic blood. I blocked it with my hand."

I stare at Kamijou Touma. Misaka-10032 stares at Kamijou Touma. Misaka Mikoto stares at Kamijou Touma.

"... hate you so much," Misaka Mikoto mutters. "You know what? No, fine! Fine! I'm not going to listen to your stupid explanations! Because I need to get these two out of here before Kuroko shows up!"

Misaka-10032 nods. "'Yes. Kuroko would be very hazardous,' Misaka-10032 says," she says.

"'We are just Level Three so the two of us do not stand a chance,' Misaka-11111 says fearfully," I say fearfully. "'She could teleport right up to us and get us in a hold. Then we would be helpless against her,' she adds," I add. "'She would do cruel things to us for her own enjoyment.'"

"'And then she would kill us to increase her Level,' Misaka-10032 says, shaking in her shoes," Misaka-10032 says.

Kamijou Touma frowns. "Wait, why do they think…"

"You! Shut up! I'm keeping them safe from Kuroko!" Misaka Mikoto says, indicating clearly that she is the best big sister. "You know what she'd do if she realised I had clones!"

He nods. "Yeah, I suppose you are."

"Come on, you two," Misaka Mikoto says. "And you, uh, 11111… you need new clothes."

"'I bought new clothes today,' Misaka-11111 says informatively," I say informatively.

"Yes, I know. But you need them right now. Because you're covered in blood and people will notice."

We turn to find a way out of here. The Network remembers something.

"'Kamijou Touma,' the Misaka say informatively, 'you should get that concussion inspected by a medical professional,'" we say in unison.

Misaka Mikoto places her palm against her forehead. Perhaps she also sustained a head injury in her fight.
