Your brain works over the options for a moment and despite the nagging desire to just. Go home and laze the evening away, getting out might be good for you. It'll just be some friendly drinks and you can have a couple beers and then head home. It'll be fine. Totally fine. You repeat that to yourself a couple times to calm the anxious part of your brain. You still struggle with it, but you like to think you've gotten at least a little bit better at handling the anxiety... Anyway.
"Sure, I'll go," you say with a smile. "Sounds like a fun group outing. Who else is going?"
"Who else?" Hige blinks. "Oh, uh... Jou, you know him, right? He's also in anthropology. And he's bringing a friend of his from the computer science department, Seiichi. And also said there'd be a couple girls coming with them, too. I didn't their names but one of them is in sports medicine, I think? Or physical therapy? Something like that. And I don't know anything about the other. Ha."
"Well, thanks for filling me in, anyway Mitsuhara-san," you say with a small laugh. "Where are we going?"
"Oh this place down the road--" He gives you the name of the place. It's a popular student hang out, has nice comfy private-ish booths to accommodate 6 or 8 people so that you can still have a conversation while you drink. You've even been there a couple times. "--like, seven o'clock?"
"Great," you say. "I'll see you at seven." Then you smile until heads off, leaving you alone again. Kind of a relief, but he's an alright guy when he gets talking. You take a breath, finish your lunch, and then head off for your afternoon classes. The afternoon blurs a little as you go and by the time you get home about 6, you're ready to take a breather. Kaname is already home, sitting at your kitchen table and flicking through channels on the TV.
"Heya, Hanako. I was thinking about dinner tonight..."
"I'm actually going out," you say before you vanish into your room, leaving her, no doubt, with questions. You return a few minutes later, having changed your clothes. It's a simple outfit. Knit sweater, collared shirt untucked over slacks. Not exactly butch but definitely more on the masculine side then you usually go for. Kaname cocks an eyebrow.
"A date?" she asks and you have to give head a quick shake.
"Ah, no. Just getting a drink with some people from school."
"Okay. Well, stay safe. And have fun." She smiles at you and you laugh.
"I will. Not going right away, in any case..." Soon enough, though, you're heading out the door with a scarf and coat to protect against the chilly autumn evening. The place is reachable by a short train ride and soon you think you've found it. A quick check finds your party and you grab a seat in the booth. Unfortunately your punctuality has betrayed you again--you're the only woman here so far, so you're kinda stuck sitting opposite Hige and Jou. They're nice enough, but you don't know them well and so all make sort of awkward conversation. Thankfully, that doesn't last more than a few minutes before the third guy, Seiichi, arrives with his lady friends in tow and you immediately feel some tension drain out of your shoulders. Introductions are made all around, but the guy's names kinda slide right off. It's the ladies who capture your attention.
One of them is Michelle Takakuwa. She's probably a sophomore and just old enough to drink, you'd guess. She's petite. Tiny, even, to the point that she makes YOU feel tall. She's human with dark hair that probably goes well past her shoulders, but she keeps it up in an elaborate hair-do. She's also extremely on point with her make up which makes you a little self conscious.
The other is Juri Wakatsuchi. She's a tall (very tall, you think she's close to six feet) fox woman with cool gray eyes, dignified bearing, and soft auburn hair (well you imagine it's soft, anyway) that she keeps cut short. She's pretty put together, though she seems to have a more laid back style than Michelle.
With your typical luck (you're not sure whether good or bad) you're crammed in the middle of them on the ladies' side of the table. You guzzle down a couple of beers to help hide your blush (or at least try to explain it away as a bit of a tipsy thing rather than a 'help I'm surrounded by cute girls' thing) and do your best to contribute to the ongoing conversation.
Michelle is doing something with politics, you think? She talks a lot about current events and especially the upcoming election here. Politics, frankly, bore you. But you try your best because she's very pretty and her perfume smells like flowers and occasionally she accidentally brushes her shoulder against yours while reaching for something on the table. The other side isn't much better. Juri is a bit quieter, but she has a really cute laugh and a husky alto voice that makes your cheeks turn redder every time she does say something (and so you necessarily drink more beer). She's doing something to do with design--fashion design, maybe? Or was it some kind of building design? You didn't quite catch it. But she seems happy to chat about whatever the table does and you space out on the boys a lot because ha ha, whoa that was really insightful, Michelle.
Maybe you should try and chat to one of them more specifically though. It'd help stop your head from spinning. You think.
