A Beacon of Hope in the Darkness: Warhammer 40,000 Xeno Civ Quest

@blankmask I think I already mentioned that the Drak'xarim prefer both nanotech and biotech.
Do the Drak'xarim have von Neumann style endless replicators?

Or do they restrict it so that it's like Hiro's microbots or MCU Tony's nanoarmors, ie the nanobots can reconfigure into virtually endless ways and assemble stuff with the proper input but is expressly non-self replicating.

And for biotech, what kind are we talking? Viruses and bio-cybernetic drones? Or like, organic guns like what tyranid uses? All of the above?

[ ] Plan: Blue Jungle
[ ]Oceanic : Your planet is at least 70% composed of oceans and seas making it more expensive to build. (-3)
[ ]Ancient human ruins (+2)
[ ]Eldar ruins (-1)
[ ]Lethal fauna (-2)
[ ]Very dangerous flora (-3)
[ ]Extremely abundant (+5)
[ ]1High (+3)
[ ]Ultima
[ ]Isolated? (Your planet is not the only one to support life in the local star system cluster, but you are out of touch with them)

Total of 1 points left.

Basic idea is an ocean world with tons of mineral resources (though I hope we move past prometheum as a fuel given it's basically fossil fuel on crack, and well, those don't tend to be environmentally friendly), plus I figured simian aliens would be more likely to evolve in more humid, rainforest-esque jungles than the arctic or a volcano world.

The reason I chose very dangerous flora is I was always more partial to plants than animals when it comes to sci fi or fantasy. With our biotech, we may be able to create tons of fun stuff from studying it.

Lethal fauna, well, when paired with very dangerous flora, I can see why they'd evolve into a collectivist species given how dangerous the competition is.

The human and aeldari ruins are meant to be complementary in a way, essentially I envisioned it as DAoT humans establishing an outpost to research ancient aeldari ruins.

Edit:

Ultima because it's near the galactic edge, and hey, maybe our combination of nano and bio tech means we'll be able to make something useful from studying tyranid forces. And if the t'au are nearby, we have a back up plan in case we need reinforcements fast.

We're already a collectivist society, the Greater Good's close enough. Well, that and they're my favorite faction for being a lighter shade of grey (before stupid retcons making the ethereals into mustache twirling saturday cartoon villains instead of actually charismatic but dogmatic believers of the Greater Good) and actually innovating (before stupid retcons like somehow being able to wage war without FTL).

As for the planet, it'd be an interesting subversion of needing to explore past the star system of the homeworld before encountering sapient life. Plus, this means we don't just turtle up if we've got people we're interacting with.

@KNM

Drak'xarri nanotech will adopt an approach closer to the latter.

For the biotech, there will be pathogens, cyborg drones (your idea will come in handy), some sorts of organic weaponry and....bioengineered monstrosities. (Think the Harmony Affinity from Sid Meier's Civilisation: Beyond Earth)

Good plan, though I am confused as to how you are ending up with 3 points left. (Your total from my calculations is 1, you can still take Precursor ruins to fix the score)

Cool. Something like Hiro's microbots is pretty useful for both civillian and military uses. Plus, it's cool haha.

Nice! I'm looking forward to bio drones and monsters

Though I'm not familiar with that series.

Speaking of which, would our biotech, and societal ethics permit for the creation of sapient races?

Oop, looks like I miscalculated haha. Though tbh, I don't really feel like adding Precursor Ruins too much.

I kinda don't wanna make it too stacked I guess. Having aeldari and DAoT ruins to study is already pretty strong, narratively speaking.

Though I suppose most voters would wanna min max.

This is a fairly straight forward plan. The world doesn't suck. It just has some dangerous plants and animals, enough to likely have been a hazard in the past but probably manageable in the present. Some ancient human ruins to explore, plenty of minerals, and fuel, but otherwise not much going on. The planet being Earthlike means there's plenty of habitable space to grow too.

Initially I didn't have lethal fauna or extremely abundant minerals, but I agree that some dangerous wildlife provides samples for possible bioweapons and mounts. You never know when you want some xeno attack dog on your side.

Tempestus has less orcs, warp storms, or tyranids than other regions of the galaxy. It also has less of everything else, but seemed like a solid starting space.

[] Plan: Hmm Monke
-[] Unremarkable (0)
-[] Ancient human ruins (+2)
-[] Lethal flora (-1)
-[] Lethal fauna (-2)
-[] Extremely Abundant (+5)
-[] High (+3)
-[] Tempestus

Sorry to say this, Fission, but your plan is too plain.

Homeworld creation vote initiated
All right, you may start to vote for your preferred homeworld candidate.

You have 48 hours.

In case two options are tied, you get an extra 12 hours.

In case multiple options get comparable numbers of votes, I will analyse the said options and approve a "consensus option" by mixing elements of the aforementioned options.

PS- Plans with negative scores for planet candidates are invalid.

You can't vote for two options either at once or separately.

Alright. Throwing my extreme plan for the funzies. Quests tend to be one offs, so people probably take the most interesting option because they don't think the same quest could pop up again, unlike when playing video games where you could start with the safe options before going hard mode.

[X] Plan: My Extreme Plan to Destroy the World
-[X] Volcanic (-1)
-[X] Precursor Ruins (+5)
-[x] Ancient Human Ruins (+2)
-[x] Eldar Ruins (-1)
-[x] Necron Ruins (-2)
-[x] Nightmarish Biosphere (-5)
-[x] Very Dangerous Fauna (-4)
-[x] Extremely Abundant (+5)
-[x] High (+3)
-[x] Tempestus
-[x] Isolated
Final tally: (+2)

Well, you could choose 2 for Flora and Fauna, so I chose 2. Also, I know nothing about 40k Galactography, so I just chose something at random. A more moderate one will probably win.

Oop. Opened while drafting.

Edit: Now with added Vitamin Ruins!

Hmmm....no ruins?

Really? Are you that confident?

Hmm. Alright. I originally had Precursor Ruins, but I kinda thought that it ruined the vibe I was thinking about, but not putting any in could be betraying my initial premise of being extreme to the max...

How many plans are we allowed to vote for? I could spin another plan that includes ruins because I think ruins would ruin the vibe.

I've put my reasons for the chosen options here. Suffice to say, I'm looking at what would interest me on a narrative form and in terms of world building that felt cohesive.

Each person can vote for one plan only.

And for the love of God, I can't comprehend why you feel ruins will mess up the vibe.

Sorry, I didn't actually explain why I didn't like having ruins in my plan. I just kinda wanted the world to be uniquely unique, like an untouched island, and I felt that the ruins would be polluting that vision. I didn't want the ruins make implications of meddling with the biosphere or something or just being a painful influence over our tech tree. I want the world to be naturally like that, for no reason at all other than being a quirk of the cosmos. Ancient outside influence cannot be avoided, but I have certain tolerances for that.

Hey, it could even be an inspiration as to why the Drak'xarim prefer nano- and biotechnology; they're surrounded with natural examples of why they're amazing.

Your explanation....caused my brain cells to spontaneously go into meltdown.

PS - Also, you can't have a plan with a negative score. (Should've clarified it earlier)

Sorry. Is it too long or is it too stupid?

Oh. I only read cannot exceed 7, so I assumed all values less than +7 is fair game. Maybe I do have to pollute my vision.

It's not long, it simply doesn't make sense.

Your view on the planet being pristine is....a little too idealistic and impractical.
