Probably darkness, but that has given me the idea of Mawile going in disguise as ile by "storing" their maw thus looking like a normal ile with a backpack/hat/hood on their head + possibly won't have to carry the weight of maw or deal with it bumping into things or wind resistance.
Add a few more accessories, clothes, and a few props and she could claim to be a mute kid with health conditions that require constant full-body coverings, then Astra could tell Mawile to knock it off because that's her schtick.
Few people knew that They had limited it´s expansion, albeit far outside of the visible radius for any planet slated to be seeded with life. They simply couldn´t justify the effort of maintaining wast expanses that would only ever be seen by Them and perhaps Arceus, should Their endless gaze ever shift this way.
How the comsmos could keep expanding while remaining the same was both complicated and not relevant for the situation at hand.
Something like this had never occured before. They could not fathom what kind of foolish action could have lead to such an event.
Dialga had arrived, just now and forever ago. While not truly part of Their domain, They figured Their sibling could use some less than linear advice on this.
Perhaps it may be cheating, but no measure cannot be justfied in the face of such impossibilitys.
For before them was the border of space, and it was made of cloth.

Far, far away, on a small sphere of molten metal and stone, on a thin crust of hardened minerals, lay an almost insignificant speck.
A Mawile. A rather charred one at that.
Said speck rose, and shook the feeling back into her limbs.
"Ooookay, no turning bags inside out. That was weird."
She pensively stared at the remainder of her loot.
"I wonder what would happen if I cut one in half..."
Mawile!me: *gasps and points behind Kiara* "OH MY GOD WHAT'S THAT?!"
Kiara: "Huh?" *turns around to look*
Mawile!me: *grabs the bag, dumps whatever I'm holding in its place, and hightails it*
...somehow tactics like this always work in Pokemon. XD
The would be thieving Mawile pointed past her shoulder, fake tears still dripping from the cheeks, features expertly schooled into a mask of utter horror.
A shiver ran down her spine. Something was behind- no, there was nothing. Nothing at all. This was a trick. Not just a trick, the Trick, a rather common move on the more connieving pokemon. She would not fail that easily. This Mawile may be more powerfull than she would seem at first glance, after all, those tears had practically screamed sincerity, but now that she was forwarned and forarmed she would stand strong.
The Mawile had not moved. Her features frozen. Could it be...? Could there truly be a terror so grand that the mere sight had...?
No Kiara, focus. This is Trick. This is no different than any before. You have felt this before. FOCUS.
But... It has never felt so... real... so... cold... has it?
The shadows are lengthening. The shadows are wispering. A primal fear wraps around her heart.
The Mawile is now trembling like a leaf. She matches involuntarily.
Just turn around. See. See the horror. There is nothing to fear but the fear itself.
Yes.. that had always been what mother had said, wasn´t it?
The known is weak, the unknown is strong. Whatever it may be, seeing it is your only hope.
Frost creeps up the windowframe, surrounding the evening rays of the midday sun.
Her breath, quick and short, condenses in the air.
Remember grandmas stories...? Of all the horrible things that used to lurk in the night...? What if they are here...?
A frozen hand grasps hers. Her gaze falls on the horrible little monsters lining the shelves. Their hungry gazes seek to devour her.
She whirls around with a chocked scream, hands raised in futile defense...
there is nothing here. There never was. The cold hands nothing but some wraper drifting in the wind. The creatures nothing but plushies. The temperature rises sharply and she turns back with her heartbeat thundering in her ears. The bag has been replaced with a muffin. The Mawile is gone.
She sits as the kettle heats. She needs a few moments. A few hours.
As she waits for the water to boil, she knows one thing for certain.
The horror was never behind her. It was before her eyes all along.

One does wonder what a small move like trick would turn into when done by a level one hundred pokemon. A walking legend and power house.
What does a small memetic distraction become? How does it overcome and subvert the defences you build?
Not necessarily. It could just be the same fight-or-flight response that we experience when a potential enemy invades our personal space without warning.

Hmm now that you mention it, in a world where the laws of nature are more along the lines of actual legal laws that are enforced by beings and the very rats on the street can call forth grand power, science probably never moved away from it's "a pasttime for the eccentric" stage. After all, who needs to sit around and learn how to manipulate the natural world when you can get your pet ferret to override it and who need meterology when you can just ensure that your predictions are true.
Not untrue --- the Pokemon world is more advanced than ours in a great number of ways, yet also weirdly behind in certain ways as well. Some of that's doubtless just due to the different needs and priorities that come with the differences of living in a world full of... well, Pokemon, but it does still bring into question what kind of things we might consider commonplace that someone from the Poke-verse might have no familiarity with at all. Most scientists in this world seem to be dedicated to Pokemon-related areas of technology and advancements only after all --- it's entirely possible that more "regular" technology may have fallen by the wayside a bit in comparison. Who knows?
There's actually a really good reason for that to be the case, although it might not have been intentional. Roads actually predate cars, so with different social development about the creation of cars, they would just never take over the roads.
Huh, didn't know that. I mean, I'd have assumed roads predated cars --- that's just common sense --- but the fact that the roads of "today" (ie. paved/concrete ones) were mostly the same even before cars were invented does surprise me. And I do think we've seen people walking in the street in Pokemon more than a time or two... you may very well be right about this.
Mawile, whom is presently in her clever disguise of being a cute animal who wants other people's food and to steel a bag (actually, every part of that disguise is literally true but anyway), is seen here needing to actively restrain herself when someone bends down to the cute animal. Implicitly, Mawile's first instinct on coming in contact with a human is to kill and eat them, not in that order.
I would scold her for this, but that would make me a hypocrite.
I'm actually quite comfortable with hugs/contact/etc in real life --- it just comes off a little different when the other person is a literal giant in comparison to you. And then there's also those pesky Mawile instincts to account for, which may or may not equate close contact with "clamp down and shake until movement has stopped"...
I mean, is that not essentially the same principle Team Rocket's various disguises operate off of? Given that, the scarf is practically a foolproof disguise all on its own.
Which is a weird choice honestly, because of all the large bird Pokemon to use for air transportation, I can't imagine Corviknight being the most comfortable. I mean, its exterior is metal --- you're literally riding a big, sharp, moving hunk of metal. At least with cars you're not riding on top of them. I don't know, maybe Corviknights just have better average carrying capacity or endurance or something, or they were chosen out of pure convience due to being the most common native flying-types to Galar, but this just feels like it wasn't thought through all that well.
Disregard the above; didn't know about the cabin thing. I... haven't actually gotten sword/shield yet. ^^;

Heh, Mawile!me would miss having my horns/jaws/maw available to me anyways --- despite their rather carnivorous bent, out of all the aspects of being a Mawile, they're kind of the main "perk" so to speak. Given the choice between Mawile and just Ile, the Maw wins.
(Also yeah, I'm trespassing on Hyphen's turf enough as is. No need to bring the wrath of @Dermonster down upon me even harder.)
Threadmarked, and very nice! Heh, Dialga and Palkia sure show up an awful lot in this story's omakes, despite the main storyline itself having gotten nowhere near them yet. I'll have to speed things along to make those less out of place... well, assuming Mawile!me actually makes it to Alamos Town when that event is scheduled to occur, or that said event occurs at all. Either way, well executed joke.
As for the topic of Trick --- I just realized that Mawiles can't actually learn that move, and that it's a Psychic-type move to boot, not a Dark-type one like I'd thought (though a fair number of dark types still learn it). Meaning, the move actually may affect the mind to some extent as shown here --- perhaps you were more right than you thought.
(Now that I look, Mawiles actually can't learn Thief either. Which may or may not explain Mawile!me's utter failure to do so last chapter. ^^; )
Who says it was blueberry? I happen to prefer- well, actually I don't really like muffins just in general. Which may explain why I chose to leave that behind. ^^;
I dunno, Mawile's pretty sus herself. Remember when Bidoof claimed to have seen her vent? Just prior to his own mysterious death in electrical, no less!
I just have the funny thought
Of Flairile going through the adventure and reaching Palkia who send you through a portal to Arceus to become human again
But in the portal this appears
That would presumably just result in a "Princess Mawile" gijinka form, which...
...okay, I was gonna say that's not what I'm looking for, but actually these are all pretty cool-looking. Even moreso if I include some of the slightlyless princess-like ones, so... nevermind, maybe I would be okay with that. ^^;
Oh wow, that's COOL. Never seen Monster Hunter style art (or, well, MH bestiary entry art) animated like that. Think I'll be saving that one to the Mawile gifs folder.
You said nothing about experimenting, however! I theorize that it will create some form of backer pack, beyond the understanding of modern tote technologies!
places a backpack in a backpack to demonstrate. Recording ends.
