Puella Magica Somniabunt Sanguinis [PMMM/Bloodborne]

I feel like saying we're always be there to help is a bit much, especially when we're already committed to helping Homura. We can't just keep making those kinds of promises to every magical girl down on her luck.

I was aware of those conflicting responsibilities when I wrote it.

It will be hard, but I think it needs to be said. Yeah we can't hang around her, but we should absolutely promise to be there to help her. She really needs that reassurance now.

Also, there is a vast gulf between "Magical girl down on her luck," and "Magical girl who just tried to commit suicide."

I mean goddamn dude, you do not tell or even imply a person who just attempted to kill themselves that you might not be there for them in the future. You be there until there until they're healthy and stable, and ideally surrounded by others regularly reaching out to make sure they're not going to open their arm up with a razor.

Homura may be right in that we can't save everyone, but we should damn well try. Ruby, at least, has clearly not had that cynicism beaten into her. As shown quite clearly in this very update.

Could just change it from 'Always there to help' to 'I'll do my best to be there to help'

Same sentiment just with less unrealistic promise behind it.

There are specks of light floating in the Witch-Seed as she pulls it back, like stars in the endless night.
You know, that doesn't really sound like it's from Ruby sucking the grief out. That sounds like her crazy-Great One-grief-equivalent, or something, is also going in. I wonder what happens if a grief seed gets pumped full of inhuman grief-analogue.

Hmm...well, it's not clearly weasel wording out of a commitment and can still sound sincere, so I'm more open to it. Gonna think on it though. The emotion aura helps with the sincerity bit though.

I'd normally make sure not to get caught up in those entrapments because I know how plots go. But this is absolutely a situation where my opinion on, "Do I have time to help in the future," is, "Make time."

We're not in a situation where we already have hard time commitments either, so avoiding making them for the sake of nebulous future entangments feels stingy.

...Maaaaaaaaybe Homura should be careful about using that one.

Hmm yeah, "I'll always there to help" is a strong thing to say to a very emotionally vulnerable person IMO, while it has good intent behind it I feel like it kind of locks us in as being this girl's only source of emotional support, which may conflict with Ruby already having commitments to Homura.

Would switching it to something like "You don't have to be alone" or "don't have to do this alone" soften the promise a bit?
I think this is pretty good. This emphasizes 'support group' rather than 'support person', and we can add in the sentiment of "I'll do my best to be there to help" to this too.

@Origami Clock BTW, the last thread mark has Trancend the Hunt, not Transcend the Hunt.

Yeah but let's be honest, Homura is....not good, but she's stable at this point. She's unlikely to veer hard in either direction, barring irreversible things happening to Madoka. Maybe Sayaka, Hitomi, Mami, or Kyoko.

The big problem being, what if there is no support group? What if it's just Ruby? If it all comes down to us?

In that case, that's more or less telling this girl, yeah you're gonna be alone sometimes and I can't help you. Not a good sentiment to deliver to someone who just came back from the brink.

Really hope she does have a support group, but the fact that she was here at all isn't promising.

Also since Origami Clock has made a big deal out of how bloodless and grey this girl is looking, I'm thinking we might need to make healing a higher priority.

Definitely try to get that fixed before she has a chance to see her reflection.

The intention isn't that we're saying that, it's that we're saying we'll help her and be her support group. It's just de-emphasizing our personal stake in it a little bit, which might help if at some point we introduce her to other friends (madoka and sayaka and hitomi?) and she doesn't need to lean on us as much. And it's a little more focused on her than us (she's the active person in the phrasing, and it's specifically about what we want to help her have, rather than just us helping her. Which is a nitpicky difference, of course.)

I have real doubts that she has friends who know now, or at least things aren't going in a direction where she could open up to them or ask for help.

So my proposal for the wording, then:

[X] "Thank you. And if it ever feels like it's getting to be too much, please, please tell me. You don't have to do this alone."
[X] She's a gardener, you're a flower. It's time to talk Plants.
[X] Once she seems to be feeling better, gently ask her if there's somewhere she needs to be.
-[X] Also she needs healing. She's lost entirely too much blood. Hopefully she can heal herself, or you may need to seek out alternative methods.

Everything else in the vote seems good to me, and we do want to start her healing as much as we can. I think if she's stable and her soul gem isn't full of grief she'll keep regening a bit, even if she might be incapacitated?

I think Homura will definitely have opinions on that, so I wouldn't be counting on those social links for her.

Yeah, but keep in mind:

She chose to come out her to die alone.

Ruby was the one who came out of nowhere and gave her a reason to live. Ruby did it so convincingly that this girl wondering if she was in heaven.

There's a good chance that this girl is less interested in other people, and more interested in Ruby, personally. Ruby's opinion and promise of help probably counts a lot more than a more indistinct promise of others.

I have real doubts that she has friends who know now, or at least things aren't going in a direction where she could open up to them or ask for help.

Yeah, that too.

So my proposal for the wording, then:

I think it's important that our response to her include some manner of personal promise, because again, we're right here and to her eyes, are the one who pulled her out of despair, and she will assign much more value to Ruby's personal action than to others.

Hence why I'm considering, "I'll do my best to help," over absolutely promising to be there to help. Still gotta be personal, something concrete she can hold on to.

Everything else in the vote seems good to me, and we do want to start her healing as much as we can. I think if she's stable and her soul gem isn't full of grief she'll keep regening a bit, even if she might be incapacitated?

Honestly, I half wonder if we're gonna need to steal a blood bag or something to replenish those fluids because goddamn.

so you know, i expected for us to realize that homu isnt a elder one or whatever, it appears like we were not disillusioned of this idea.
awesome, i love the idea of the little plant girl thinking of homu as a old one and the girls as little egg children things.

Who say's she's not, really? It sounds like she has the right kind of magic, she does fuck around with Space and Time pretty easily. At the very least, she could become one.

Like, imagine what a Homucifer scenario would look like to us? She had a Dream and everything.

Edit: Actually? I want this to happen now. Ruby already wants to try and help Homura remember what she is, so I say we see if it's viable to jury rig an ascension somehow.

There's precedent in bloodborne lore, right? Thirds and all.

Maybe we can get her to remember the future?

Right, I still think making an absolute promise is the right thing to do here, but since that seems to be contentious I'll change it doing our best as @Spectral Waltz suggested. Here's hoping it works.

I am nixing the be there bit, in favor of just do our best to help. Rolls off the tongue better, sounds more sincere by not being overly specific.

Her body should sustain itself bc soul shenanigans but yeah worth asking about.

I approve of this idea

What the girl needs right now, I think, is to take her mind off of things. When she seems a little more steady we can go with the promises to help. It seems as though she just needs to talk right now.
