Well, if Remilia wanted you here, she'd ask, wouldn't she? She always lets you know when she wants you to do something, after all. You hop forward and wrap your arms around your sister, pulling her back a little as you hug her. "Yeah, I should talk to Ilya. Thank you, Remilia. Would you like a souvenir?" She laughs quietly, a simple huff of air.

"The only souvenir I might want isn't something I could reasonably expect you to get for me … but thank you, Flandre." She leans into your hug and her wings perk up, no longer rubbery twists of flesh hanging from her shoulders. "Now, go on, shoo." You snort in amusement and skip back, but before you leave you do have one more question.

"Oh, and should I tell Sakuya? You said you had something to keep her busy, right? Should I give her a hint about that or do you want to keep it a real surprise?" She chuckles darkly and shakes her head.

"No, no, please don't say anything, Flandre. I'd like to have her unadulterated response to myself." You snicker and bow your head. "Ah, but do please ask her to return to her normal duties."

"Yep! Then I'm off. See you tomorrow!" She raises a hand in acknowledgment and you wave before hopping off the balcony and flying up over the mansion. Ilya said she should be outside for a while, after all … but when the front yard comes into view you don't see her. Hmm. Where, oh where, could your little friend be? You drop to the yard and slip back into the mansion. She's more likely to be inside than out, and there are at least a couple places you can check before you really have to start seeking her out. Of course, she happens to be in the first place you look – the dining room. The layout is different from its usual setup, though. Instead of a long table forming the centerpiece of the room, there are several small round tables and the middle of the room is taken up by a slowly-shifting, almost-oozing crystalline mass. It rather reminds you of the mana crystal Caster made.

"Lady Flandre." Sakuya bows when you poke your head in, disrupting your plan of sneaking up behind Ilya and surprise-hugging her. Of course, you could have turned invisible, but ….

"Flan! You're finished talking with your sister already?" You harrumph lightly and slide a chair closer to her before sitting down. Sella and Leysritt are standing attentively against the wall, and Satsuki is trying to match their easy grace. Your eyes narrow slightly … but at least this way Sakuya can teach her more, at least when she isn't doing whatever it is your sister has planned for her. Your hand snakes out and snatches a steaming dumpling from the plate on the table – Sakuya's cooking is so delicious!

"What do you mean, 'already'? We talked about some pretty important things, like using the ground to break your fall and keeping dragons above you in case you don't have a parasol!" Ilya starts to nod before what you said sinks in, and then her eyes narrow as she stares suspiciously at you. You shrug and take another bite of the dumpling, sighing delightedly, then look up at Sakuya. "Oh, and Remilia did say you could return to your normal duties." She bows.

"Thank you, Lady Flandre." … She doesn't move, though. Maybe it's because this is the dining room and taking care of the food is part of her normal job? Or is she training Satsuki in something? Ilya shakes her head.

"Um, anyway, did you talk about anything else? - I don't mean to pry, or anything, but … um, I'm not really sure what your sister's like, still. I haven't seen her much, after all, and she's doing so much for me …." You lean over and nuzzle her gently. She's such a good girl.

"We talked about a few things, but … mm, well, the schedule is changing a bit." Ilya tilts her head curiously. "You'll be leaving tomorrow at noon, and I'll go to Mid-Childa after you get back." She blinks, taking in your announcement, then clenches her fist and brings it against her chest and starts taking shuddering breaths. You start to reach out, worried, but she smiles tightly and shakes her head.

"I'm … I'm fine, Flan. Just … just a little nervous. Excited …." Her mouth works silently for a moment before she ducks her head. And that is a perfect opening. You reach out again, setting your hand comfortingly on her shoulder.

"Ilya, do you want me to come with you?" You wait until she looks at you to speak, so you see her pretty red eyes widen. "Since you'll be leaving first, I can come with you if you want me to." She stares at you for a moment, then her head turns so she's looking at the table.

"You … want to come with me?" You press your lips together as you try to figure out what she means, whether she's happy or upset or just still a little confused.

"If you want me to, Ilya. This is your trip, after all – your chance to see your parents. If you want me to stay back, I can and it won't bother me. I just want to make sure you're okay." You sigh and look down. "And I'll still have to clear it with Patchouli anyway, and I'll be following her rules, so unless you specifically want me to do something I'll probably be out of the way."

"So you'll be there … just in case?" You give a one-shouldered shrug.

"Well – if it'll make you feel better, yes. But if you'll feel better without me there – if my being there will make you think about the things that can go wrong, because I'll only do something if things are going wrong – then it's fine." She ducks her head more, her hair covering her face from your sight.

"What about your sister?" You nod.

"She knows – it's … I asked, when we were talking, if it would be okay if I went with you. That's why the schedule changed. So if you want me to come along, it won't be a problem." After a moment she looks up, smiling nervously.

"Th- … thank you, Flan. I … I would like it if you came along with us. It would make me feel better." A smile splits your face and you lunge toward her, wrapping her in a hug. She awkwardly pats your back and you release her. "Thank you."

"Well, since you'll be leaving tomorrow, is there anything you want to do before then?" Her mouth opens, then closes, and she shakes her head to clear it.

"Um, I think I should just get some sleep. I'm sorry, but …." You nod happily.

"Do you want to sleep in my bed again?" She blushes brightly and nods after a moment. You giggle.

... Maybe?
I think they're more concerned with the adorable friendship than the siblingship.
Or attempting to romance? I'm... not 100% sure which the goal is with Ilya.
Either way:

"Then let's get some rest, and then tomorrow we can check in with Patchouli to see if there's anything you need to do." You lean over and hug her gently. "I'll catch up before you get to the library, don't worry." She smiles and heads out, followed by her servants. You look at Satsuki as she fidgets nervously.

"Umm … so we're going back to Fuyuki?" You shake your head.

"You're not; Patchouli specifically said she wouldn't take you." She almost looks relieved, and then a little terrified. You turn to Sakuya. "We shouldn't be gone long, but you can still show her things, right?" She smiles at you and bows, and you grin at Satsuki.

"Of course, Lady Flandre. Right now, however, I believe it is time for you to train with Meiling. Come along, Satsuki." You giggle at Satsuki's expression.

"Good luck, Satsuki!" You pat your maid on the head as she heads toward the door, then you turn into a bat and fly out past her. You circle around the door, waiting for them to come out, then squeak happily at them. Sakuya bows again, and Satsuki follows suit, and you click at them before flying after Ilya. You weave between Sella and Leysritt to plop gently on Ilya's head.

"Lady Illyasviel!"

"Ah – oh, wait …." She reaches up and pats your back before giggling. "That's you, Flan, isn't it?" You squeak and she laughs again. "So it's true that bats get tangled up in your hair, huh?" You chitter indignantly and drape your wings along the side of her head – you have much more control over yourself than that! After a few seconds, however, you clamber down onto her shoulder. You're a little too big for her to be comfortable with you riding on her head, at least right now, so her lap is a much better place. Especially since … you trill happily as she gently scratches the base of your ear. You have no idea why it feels so good, but it does. "Oh, Flan."

The trip through the library is uneventful, of course. Koakuma is probably helping Patchouli with whatever business she has to take care of. You chitter happily, laughing, as Ilya and Sella argue about sleeping arrangements – Ilya insisting that both her servants sleep in the bed with her, Sella trying to give the bed to just you and Ilya. Of course, you know who's going to win, and the bed is large enough for three people anyway. Ilya sleeps between her servants and you plop yourself onto her chest, another layer of insulation against the cooler air of your room – your room does get fresh air, somehow, but it's still quite cool compared to the library. As Ilya lays there, you listen to her pulse and her heartbeat, the two almost perfectly synchronized … and both just a little fast for someone trying to go to sleep. You nuzzle her neck and reach up to stroke her cheek with your claw.

"Thank you, Flan." She brushes the fur on your head and back, eventually falling asleep. You let yourself succumb to quiet oblivion shortly afterward.

You wake up before anyone else and change back into your normal form, then change your clothes. You try to figure out what time it is – you are on a bit of a schedule, after all – then shrug and send your clones out to the lab area. Ilya and her servants could probably use a change of clothing as well, and maybe a bath before that? Or should you see Patchouli about things first? You reactivate the lights, not brightly but enough that they'll be able to see when they wake up. And then you take the mask with you. Maybe you and Patchouli won't ever get along, but you're going to make use of this. It should give you even more of a surprise edge against people, if nothing else.

Your clones slip back into the room with sets of clothing – Sella's white and blue dress, Leysritt's white and black, and Ilya's usual purple shirt and white skirt. You look over to see Leysritt staring quietly at you; you smile and wave back as your clones hang the clothes against the wardrobe, then sit down at your desk. How, exactly, will you deal with Patchouli's other condition? The geas is insulting, demeaning, and completely against your wishes … but it shouldn't be anything too difficult to go along with them, so it should only be a backup. And the punishment – it's hard to pick something that's agreeable without being excessive. Sure, you could go overboard, but then you'd really be hurting yourself, and Patchouli would probably accept it. You could probably just let her pick something, but ….

"Flan?" You turn around at Ilya's question.

"I'm here, Ilya. Is something wrong?" She sits up and looks around.

"No, I'm fine … did you get those?" You glance at the clothes and nod.

"Yup! I didn't know if you'd want to see Patchouli first, get clean, or have something to eat, but this way we can make fewer stopovers." Her head droops.

"Thank you, Flan." You tsk quietly and fly over to her – oh, Sella's awake, too. Silly servants.

"Ilya, it's fine. Really! If you don't want me to do something, just tell me, but don't feel bad because I go out of my way to try and make things easier for you, okay?" She makes a face and you reach out to pull her cheeks apart. She makes a funny sound as you stretch her cheeks, and her hand leaps up to try and push you away. You dart back and she pouts at you. "Hehe! You're adorable, Ilya." She blushes and you giggle.

"Ah, Lady Illyasviel, Lady Flandre." Ilya's blush deepens as Sella 'wakes up.' The servant probably isn't fooling anyone and now Ilya's embarrassed to learn that she was being observed.

"So, what'll it be? Food, bath, or Patchouli?" Ilya's blush starts fading as you try to distract her with 'work.'

"Umm … Patchouli, I guess. We should see if there's anything we need to do as early as possible." You plaster a smile on your face; you aren't exactly thrilled to be seeing Patchouli again, and she'll likely be as nasty as she usually is, but you can't very well leave Ilya to face the magician on her own. Especially since it would be rather rude. You help Ilya into the wheelchair as her servants arrange themselves, then you all set out for the portal area – if Patchouli isn't there, you'll use your clones to look for her.

"B-but Milady …!" Your eyes widen; it's not often that you hear Sakuya complaining. Especially whining. When you enter the portal area you stop, staring at the chief maid.

"Sakuya, you're going. You're going to enjoy yourself." Your sister looks normal, but instead of her usual outfit, Sakuya is wearing a dark skirt and a tan jacket. The backpack and handbag make her look like a kid, too, and you suppress a giggle.

"But … why? And why do I have to wear this?" Remilia sighs.

"Because that's the uniform where you're going. I'm letting you bring one of your normal sets of clothing, but you're only to wear it if you're actually engaged as a maid … or, I suppose, if you get into a fight. By the way, don't die. I mean it, I'd hate to lose you." Sakuya blushes and hunches her shoulders. "Anyway, it'll be a good learning experience for you. You can fight alongside an angel. Or learn air guitar. Maybe take up fishing? Whatever you want to do." Sakuya stands in front of one of the portals but doesn't make a move to enter.

"… Milady –" Whatever she was about to say is cut off as your sister darts behind her and gives her a 'push,' kicking her forward into the portal. You suppose that's one way of keeping her busy … but what will Satsuki do?

"Have fun! Don't forget to pass your classes!" She brushes her hands together and turns away from the portal, finally seeming to notice you. "Oh? You're a bit early, you know." You nod.

"We were looking for Patchouli, to see if we'd need to do anything else before we go." Remilia briefly cocks an eyebrow at that, then shrugs.

"Pretty sure she's making sure she has everything she's planning on bringing. I don't think anything has changed as far as other preparations – if she hasn't told you by now, you probably don't have anything you need to particularly do. Her familiar will be around in a bit to make sure the portal is set and to tune the emergency return tokens. Breakfast is up in the dining room." Ilya glances at you and your sister nods before transforming into a swarm of bats and flying away. That's … odd behavior from her. But if Sakuya is gone, that means that her magic is going to be what's keeping the mansion expanded, so she's probably more than a bit busy.

I hope Patchouli will overlook there are currently three souls inhabiting Flandre's body and let only Flandre take the geas. I don't know how much Headless or Giltless will be bound to something only Flandre promised - without wanting make Flandre's life harder.

Anna sighed as she walked down yet another much-too-large hallway. This was the sort of hallway that Flay could walk down - no, stride down - with confidence and look not only like he belonged, but that he was in charge. She was far too small to have that kind of effect; trying to do that would make her look foolish, so instead she walked off to the side, a little farther than a sword-length from the wall. She kept an eye out for anything interesting, but it was possible she'd gotten turned around several times already, so she probably wouldn't see anything that Flandre would want her to interfere with. Of course, she wasn't sure why she was so concerned with what Flandre wanted, or why she had given in so easily, but … it was something to do. Pamela had the other ghost to hang around with, and the other members of their little group tended to not hang around with a little girl. She couldn't even practice Alchemy … well, she could, since she and Pamela had managed to get Flandre to agree to set up a sort-of Workshop in a side area, but without knowing the properties of most of the items she worked with, she got a lot of duds and some small explosions.

Flandre herself did try to hang around with her, but never when she was working on her Alchemy, which meant she would usually try to help with her sword practice. And the only problems with that were that it meant she couldn't practice with her actual sword - itself a replacement from the first time she'd tried that and it had badly chipped when Flandre blocked it with her rod - and that Flandre didn't care if she was injured. Anna was no stranger to violence, but actually hurting her own comrade bothered her, even if it didn't bother Flandre. So, much of the time when they were together ended up being spent talking about one thing or another. Except ….

Anna's musings were interrupted by a series of shouts. Grown men, it sounded like … and a child? Even before the child started yelling, Anna was moving toward the disturbance - there were people! She'd been wandering the building for what had seemed like hours without seeing anyone, and now there was a commotion that she could interfere with! … Or, something like that. She shook her head as she skidded to a stop in another hallway and stared at the group of people. Soldiers in armor, some with spears and a few with swords, some men with staves in their hands - and a girl dressed in rich red robes that seemed to be their prisoner. Then they noticed her and some of the soldiers yelled to her. Anna scowled - without Alma present, she couldn't understand what was being said. Flandre seemed to be able to, but she usually explained it away with meaningless statements like "game scripts" and "main character privileges."

… Still, she couldn't just let those men get away with kidnapping a young girl! Even if she didn't know whether or not they were actually kidnapping her, or if the girl had committed some crime, or if this was all just some cra- … odd game they were playing. She tightened her grip on her sword as some of the soldiers moved toward her threateningly. Well, she wouldn't kill them unless she had to, but that didn't mean she couldn't do something about what was going on. After all, Alchemy might be problematic but her Mana still worked. The soldiers advancing on her were halfway toward her now, so she whipped her sword from its sheath, leaping into the rift in space that formed and dropping down in front of the group in back. Her sword leapt out again, cutting at the less-armored wrist of one of the shocked guards, and he flinched back, dropping his spear. She danced around him and then behind, blade spinning but hardly cutting anyone as they stumbled away from her. She got a closer look at the girl she was rescuing - she could hardly be any older than she was! - and when the man holding her let go to duck away, her sword cut space apart one last time. She grabbed the girl and pulled her along through the rift.

They stepped out to an empty hallway and Anna sighed in relief. They had at least a moment or two before they were found. She studied the other girl as she babbled uselessly - long purple hair, golden eyes, very fine clothing … obviously a noble's child of some sort. Perhaps the city was being invaded? She frowned and began walking away, deep in thought. It couldn't be an invasion, because there were no sounds of fighting, and when cities were invaded there were always sounds of fighting. Not to mention the complete lack of blood on the walls and floor, or on the soldiers themselves - apart from the little that she had spilled, of course. And the girl herself was unharmed, which by itself ruled out an invasion -! She whirled about - one thing that Flandre had somehow managed to do was get her to break free of her rambling streams of thought - but the girl was still there, arms crossed and glaring furiously. She said something else and Anna shrugged.

"Um, sorry about that. I sometimes get lost in my thoughts. I didn't mean to ignore you." The girl's anger vanished and her eyes widened. Anna smiled and shrugged again. Then a door behind her burst open and several of the red-armored soldiers burst through it. Anna sighed and prepared to fight - but the soldiers exploded before she could do anything, splattering blood across the walls, ceiling, and floor. She heard Alma giggle and the ghostly girl appeared in the pool of blood, clapping her hands silently and dancing through the gore. Anna shook her head and turned back to the other girl - at least she would be able to communicate …. By the time she turned around, however, Alma was already standing over the girl's prostrate form. Anna crossed her arms irritably as Alma made a contrite face. Then she giggled and the three of them were somewhere else.

Anna blinked at the campfire that was set up in the middle of the forest clearing, then looked away, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the change in light. Alma, of course, was nowhere to be seen, but the girl she had rescued was lying on a bedroll. On the other side of the fire was another man Flandre had recruited, the white-haired near-immortal 'Heine.' He was sitting on a log, staring at nothing … and sitting on the ground near him was another girl, with white hair and golden eyes. Anna frowned and looked back at the girl she had saved. The white-haired girl, startled by their sudden appearance, looked around the fire and saw the other girl. She stiffened, face pale, and after looking at Heine she scooted around to help her. Anna frowned and walked between the two girls and Heine.

"So … where's Flandre?" The man shrugged. "Do you know what she's doing? What she said she was going to do?"

"Said she wanted to kill a god." Anna blinked before shrugging herself and sitting down on the ground. Not exactly the strangest thing she'd heard Flandre had wanted to do. She unsheathed her sword and began examining the edge for damage. She hadn't used it much, but it was always good to check … something, not a sound but a sensation, made her look up. Flandre stood between her and the two girls, a man's severed head in her hand and a scowl on her face.

"Right. So it appears that I cannot, at this point in time, kill the local god. I'm debating whether or not that's a good thing, but I'm leaning toward, 'Kind of wished I'd killed all the senators.'" She grumbled and tossed the head up and down for a few seconds. Anna looked over at the two girls to see that they were both awake. Flandre tossed the man's head higher and used the extra time to clap her hands. "Yay!" She caught the head and hopped forward, squatting in front of the girls and setting the head on top of her own as she studied them. Anna sighed quietly and shook her head. Flandre was, no doubt, about to do something cra- … unusual again.

But... But why.

Does Remilia just occasionally ship Sakuya off to random worlds so she can watch her gallivant around in cute outfits?

Is that why Remilia sent Flandre out!?

This is the first time that Sakuya's been through a portal (unless I had her go through one earlier in the story but I don't think so), and probably the only time she will unless Things Happen. And, no, Remilia had intended for the portals to be a present for Flan because she didn't think she'd be able to have any fun in Gensokyo for various reasons ... and then Patchouli let her find the portals early so she was able to get out without proper warning/preparation.
