I seriously don't get why people are voting for the stay until works thing.
We don't know how long it will take, people are just assuming it'll be two weeks instead of a month or worse. So you know assumptions make asses of us all.
But besides that.
Prodigy doesn't get you jack shit. Histuguya is a prodigy he gets jack shit from it and he's a Captain. Like, why re we assuming prodigy means that cancels out 'punk ass we can't trust with anything important.'
Like how does this play out when it comes to mission assignments?
"So Ichigo Kurosaki has put in for a mission to the human world"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah graduated in a year."
"Wait didn't he also disappear for like two weeks at the start to get Shikai?"
"Right"
"Fucker can't even be bothered to follow academy rules, are we sure that we can trust him to follow rules in the human world? He's pretty new from the file."
"But he came back with a Shikai"
"So, just means we send him to the outer districts, where you know him doing whatever the fuck he wants doesn't potentially make us do more paperwork."
"But he came back with shikai"
"I KNOW STEVE! WHY DOES THAT MATTER?"
"....He came back with Shikai"
"You know what, fuck him, and fuck you Steve, he's now on guard duty for the Fourth, are you happy?"
"You mean like in general? Because yeah"
I'm not saying that it would go down like this.
I am saying that if you want the rigid magic samurai bureaucrats to be nice to you, then you need to follow their rules. Like sure power is great, power isn't going to make them want us to give an assignment to the human world.
Barring the trope-upset that'd be the training being a flop somehow, why would it
matter, even if this was some huge black stain on our record?
No really - consider what Ichigo's goal is, here; it's not about becoming a Shinigami or graduating early or any of that, those are just his current tools for achieving his goal.
His goal is to get back to the living world... and Kukaku, just now, demonstrated she can at the least get messages through, and is willing to offer that.
It seems quite reasonable, then, for Ichigo to consider her an alternative to the entire schooling/Shinigami thing, for achieving his goal - and potentially a far, far faster way of doing it. What with being messages NOW, as opposed to visits LATER. Further, it seems reasonable to assume that if one can get messages through, one could get people through, too - or so I reckon Ichigo'd reason. I won't go so far as to claim it'd be unilaterally against Ichigo's character to hedge his bets; slow down the message claiming
(and through it sister reassuring) to have less risk to the extant system
(Shinigamidom), but I can certainly see the argument. Conversely, I definitely see the argument for him laser-focusing on the fastest, quickest way of doing the thing he's made his serious priority. Canon was certainly replete with examples of him doing exactly that, and all.
