Well this is interesting. Ukitake may believe that letting Kaien die fighting was the right thing to do, but there's no way that he was comfortable with his lieutenant's grieving family being thrown from power because of their rage at him over Kaien's death. I really want to see how he feels about that incident. The full story seems like it'll be pretty interesting.

As I recall Karakura Town is the 13th's beat, so I'd give good odds we'll end up joining his division too.
 
Okay, so if "I skipped school for a few days/weeks/whatever to do intensive training to unlock my shikai" is actually going to fly as an excuse, we might as well do it.

This is one of those wacky cases where being is bad student is the best way to be a really amazing student.

Like, seriously, if Ichigo skips two weeks of classes, and comes back with his Shikai unlocked, that's going to make him look better to the Academy. It makes him some kind of crazy prodigy. Then, he just has to test out of his other classes where possible, which the academy totally allows.

It's an insane plan, but if it works, it's mad-genius territory, rather than crazy-stupid.

If it doesn't work, well, that's a problem. And I wish we had some way to let Takako know what's going on; I hope this doesn't reflect too poorly on her, since she sponsored Ichigo and has been a stand-up friend all along.

Ultimately a week at least is just missing one day of each class. Two weeks... well, that's gonna be a bigger deal if it gets to that but if he gets his shikai then it'll still probably work out as explained above.

I like the idea of doing this, and I feel like the rewards really outweigh the risks.

Plus, I'd imagine having a shikai unlocked early on would help him grow in other areas too. I mean, it all revolves around spiritual energy and the soul, so unlocking greater depths of one's soul should logically help improve other areas of soul control.

I'm mostly worried that the training will be a flop and we get booted out of the academy for being missing for too long. Such would harm us more then the benefit we'd get from learning Shikai early.
