Bleach: Derailed

Question, does Ichigo remember exactly what happened the day his mother died?
That is was a white monster that killed her?

-[X] Train with her once a week.

It's a great offer, but I'd rather Ichigo not vanish off into the wilderness for a week or more and come back with a shikai resembling that of a disgraced noble clan. Subtle, that is not. And people would recognise something similar to the shikai of a former captain.

But they'll notice that anyways you realize right? Our shikai wont be different if we take a while longer.

This may not be the wisest but it is definitely in character for Ichigo.

Like Prospalz and others have said, Ichigo canonically consistently excelled when thrown on the proverbial fire, and forced to do-or-die. He thrives in being trained into the ground. He should be able to make this 'until it's done' a short period of time, and in so doing both impress Kukaku, and learn something handy about himself and how to train his spiritual powers, that should be useful for trying to express train his schooling. Also, I'm almost always in favor of whichever iteration of votes advances goals the fastest, since I'm a rather cynical fuck about quest lifespans, and the impact thereof on longterm plans.

And on the flipside, his motivation for all this definitely seems to suit this choice over any other; what even is the schooling for, other than to get him a chance to do precisely what Kukaku's offering to do for him outright; contact his family and make sure they're not breaking at his absence? It's not quite the same as reassuring them himself, but the fact she could even offer a message at all suggests she could afford some iteration of outright visit - or so I feel Ichigo'd reckon. Per this Kukaku's offer is more important than the Shinigami academy on the whole.
If you vanish for long periods of time, you have to explain it. Going off once a week? Not so much.
The point was that either way, Ichigo's on track to develop a disgraced noble clan-style Shikai regardless, for obvious reasons. And further, even if he doesn't develop it out-of-house in a big notable breach of expectations/rules like staying away for weeks, he'd still be expected to show his Shikai, whenever he develops it.

So unless you think he could find a way to disguise the way his Shikai looks on some fundamental level, that's no different between the choices.

What's going on in the real world that makes it such bad timing? Ichigo's sisters might be in danger, something something doesn't have time to sit around doing nothing!

Ichigo always accepts the dangerous training to protect the person in front of him. Worrying about meaningless things like reputation when he could get both a message to his family, and clue-ed in on what is going on sooner, why would you do something like that?

I just want you guys to know, we probably would've had this option even if we didn't specialize in swords, thus proving my point about Ichigo not needing to specialize in order to become a bullshit swordsman.

Hmph.

Wait, don't we already have the shikai?

I mean the sword was described as a kitchen knife right? That fits the cleaver way more than the giant thing he started with.

The difference will be that instead of becoming the dumb he was in canon, we can actually be good at swording like Zangetsu.

Crash training is what Ichigo excels at, after all :D

*doesn't read all the other posts, probably repeats stuff*

This is Important, so it is worth putting our all in it. Sure, some things may fall to the wayside, but! Again, this is important enough that I feel an all in approach is best.

Didn't the events of Bleach take place over the course of a single year (at least until Fullbringer Arc)? We have a whole year to git gud. With actual qualified teachers. With BS training techniques. Ultimate power, here we come... *rubs hands*
