I proposed looking into "Rin Tohsaka" as a follow up to "learning more about the founding families of this world" - so he'd know that the Tohsaka were involved somehow and try and figure out how. Looking into the Einzbern would fall into a similar category.

So EMIYA in the previous war was the Alter variant instead of regular ole Counter Guardian? Or was I mistaken?

But if it is EMIYA Alter, Shirou should start investigating his knowledge of the future. He might know some useful things that could help us. Like Kiara Sessyoin.

The class card that he originally got from Sakura was broken and shouldn't have worked in the first place but because hes a Shirou he instead aligned the card with EMIYA, which was only possible because they are basically the same person, and that allowed him thanks to the absurdly high sync and nearly infinite prana supplied by affection of the grail to solo the entire war in a single night.

If Rin still summons Archer as her servant there should be an interesting resonance between him and us.

Eh, not really. Kiritsugu doesn't really qualify for a Heroic Spirit and his CG version... could be summoned? Maybe if one were to use origin bullet as a catalyst it would work? Honestly I have no idea how the whole 'summon CG as a Servant' thing works. Still a bad—and painful—idea though.

To be fair, its not like who qualifies as a servant has ever been remotely consistent. After all, its impossible to summon a god remember? :V

I thought the gas leak was the cover for Rider?

I don't see why she would need to with Miyu!Shirou as her Master though. He's got pretty much infinite prana from Affection of the Grail.
